There actually almost was a new Mudflap before COVID-19 happened. Third Party company Cold Constructs were going to do one until their Scattorshot failed to sell properly. Overhaul, Hot Shot and Jetfire were also intended for future release but never happened.
So glad to hear someone else say it. Masterpiece has dipped in quality and affordability, while Generations has soared to heights we never thought we'd get at the price point!

I appreciate the Crankcase love, everyone gushes about us getting Windsweeper and Ruckus....but Crankcase had always been the star of the Triggercons in media and the Legacy version is a solid remold from Skids to make me happy.
@@gabrielchee8470 definitely what gave a lot of those characters their star power but I personally don’t like underselling the work put into those toys bios back in the day. Especially in late G1, if you were up for the included reading, they didnt necessarily need proper media to still give you a character, and I have a lot of respect for that.

Unironically, I think Thew just DID foretell the future. With Thunderclash's toy actively disintegrating and his history as being 'the cooler Optimus' when Rodimus plopped, a new Thunderclash has GOTTA be in the works. As both a character and a toy, he's too much fun NOT to. If Skids can make a comeback, Thunderclash definitely can.
One of the cool things about Skids is that he's and everyday car. Although Bumblebee is also an everyday car, VW Beetles do stand out despite that. Skids could avoid standing out in a way that most of the others couldn't. Can you imagine Mirage hanging out on the street corner, well without his invisibility? Skids. The guy that took Megatron off the board for ages, and Ravage for hundreds of issues. The autobot so awesome Time itself judged him the equal and opposite of Galvatron. And who got his rocks off by letting an earth girl wash him in a bikini. One of these stories was by Bob Budiansky.
To be fair, the Diaclone decos of MP Skids had the scooter, which is why I went for Reboost (the red one) over Skids. Edit 2: my favorite of the Legacy skids remolds/repaints has wound up being Cannonball funny enough. He's like the best of both Skids AND Crankcase with a snazzy deco, and a cyber planet key AND Red Alert/Cannonball's original weapons! Hell yeah! The problem with MPs are they're basically useless. The mainline figures have become better in quality AND engineering. They developed while masterpiece stayed put.
I like to call them "Living Fossils", personally. Still being made, in a time where 3rd Parties & Mainlines have pretty much stolen their Mojo, but they refuse to go under.
The entire segment involving going back to get the old photos of Savant for comparison just might be some of the best content that Thew has ever created.
I think the only thing left would be if they made a new Transformers cartoon that featured skids prominently. Then they could make a Skids based off of that cartoon, other than that I'm pretty sure we're good for him.

This was an excellent watch, there's no videos of yours that I dislike at all, really, but every now and again it just happens that a video clearly, just, is a little MORE for lack of a better term (not more anything specific, just more in and of itself) and this feels like one of those. Fantastically delivered excellent little journey. I think the personal aspect present here might be a major part of its charm. One way or another, a great time was had!
I got Legacy Skids in a two-pack during X-mas and I ended up really loving him. He is one of those bot toys that is just about perfect in having a satisfying transformation that's not complex or fiddly and gives you a good bot when it's done. It's like the wonderful solid simplicity of the original toys.

I remember watching that original video and how it made me appreciate Skids' overall aesthetic. Not long after, I found a copy of Legacy Skids in a local shop and picked it up on a whim. That was the toy that really got me back into the hobby!

Hey Thew, not to question you or anything but I think the intended way to combine the guns is to plug the double gun into the hole on the bottom of the bigger gun, speaking from personal experience it fills out the space a bit better, gives it a sort of gun trident look and leaves the top port open so you can plop the energon axe on top and make it look like an at least somewhat decent hand canon.
As someone who just completed the leader class dinobots, there is very little I'd wish for right now. Just looking forward to what surprises will be brought in the future.
MP Diaburnout is the first MP I've bought since... uh... wow, Road Rage. I clearly have a theme there. And yes, you want Diaburnout, she's great. She's got SO MUCH STUFF and the best headsculpt. Nominally I'd dread doing an MP pic for the wiki, but honestly, doing that one was a dang delight.
I have legacy burnout, and while I have little clue where two of the three accessories went, I do remember a combined configuration that looks like it was actually intentionally designed. You take the big chunky single barrel gun, and you plonk the ax on top of it by the back of the blade, so that the l-shaped handle near the bottom of the axe lines up with the end of the barrel. And then you take the double pistol and tack it on upside down under the chunky gun. So now you have a marginally sensible but still really daft kind of doomgun with a four barrels
It was actually because of your prior Skids video that Skids was the first Legacy figure I picked up. Also nice that the Skids mold led to Crankcase getting a new figure in the line.

My Legacy Skids has basically the full ToyHax set applied. I don't like applying window stickers but I went ahead with them, partly for continuity with the rear window stickers, but also to mask the internal structures, especially the bold red strut behind the windshield (which oddly works better on the Crosscut redeco, which has no stickers applied)
I will always appreciate Thew manifesting a new love for skids. The masterpiece was great and my first. I got the silver version. Though mine came with a scooter

legacy skids holds a very special place in my heart, your review made me very excited when he came up to fill that brief, and once i got him in hand he kind of changed my life for a bit. i was just so charmed with how ordinary he felt, like just some car that could be anywhere, it felt very validating to the “robots in disguise” concept. he even got me interested in the diaclone lads because of how they carried that vibe with burnout and lift ticket and them, they filled a hole of mundane realism that had really been missing from my transformers experience, and it just made everything click. he’s lovely, and he’s done so much for me, i adore him.
as additional proof that i love him, i have bought every iteration of the mold so far and am more than ready to keep buying more of them, i cant wait for cybertron red alert and, hopefully, reboost, screech, and the other skids. i would buy a three-pack of just them, honestly, they would be an absolute joy to have by my side.
I'm actually really glad that we got this sequel, and I still think the original video on skids is still great. Even if it doesn't age that well, it's still a good monument to how a nobody, even someone as forgettable to most people as skids, can have a happy ending in the world of Transformers or hell, maybe even more than just transformers. Everyone has value, and everyone deserves to have their purpose fulfilled and realized, even something as silly as the blue Honda transformer. Not to mention, it's also quite the redemption arc, like I'm fairly certain that skids didn't get any attention for the longest time because people associate him with exclusively Revenge of the Fallen, I know for sure that's what happened with me, so the fact that it's not the case anymore is just amazing.

Legacy Skids is easily one of my favorite figures to come outta Lagacy! When I got him and turned him into his car mode for the first time, I was like "Yes! This FEELS right!" I was so happy to finally have one of my favorite characters in my collection! That same character who fell in love with from reading Issue #20 of the classic Marvel comic! That said, he needed better weapons. Thank you, third-party companies for making better TF accessories when Hasbro drops the ball! I got a set of 3 guns, 2 of which can be combined into 1. A rifle that looks IDW/Thirlling 30 inspired, a double-barrel gun, and a blue gun with a black barrel. And he looks great with them!

I have Velocitron Burnout & she is an absolute treat of a lass for sure, I only picked her up because I got Gen Selects Lift-Ticket & while I didn't & still don't care for him, he did make me get Burnout & for that I thank him for that as she is a perfectly competent deluxe carformer that I don't regret buying unlike Lift-Ticket.
My original Skids was confiscated by my 3rd grade teacher and put on top of the really tall cabinet in the classroom. This is where G.I.Joe figure Wild Bill and others ended up. They never came back down.
Still bummed that MP Skids was repainted into Reboost, but Legacy Skids never did. So long after we got Burnout, Crosscut, and the mold was retooled to make Crankcase and Medix.

legacy skids holds a very special place in my heart, your review made me very excited when he came up to fill that brief, and once i got him in hand he kind of changed my life for a bit. i was just so charmed with how ordinary he felt, like just some car that could be anywhere, it felt very validating to the “robots in disguise” concept. he even got me interested in the diaclone lads because of how they carried that vibe with burnout and lift ticket and them, they filled a hole of mundane realism that had really been missing from my transformers experience, and it just made everything click. he’s lovely, and he’s done so much for me, i adore him.
as additional proof that i love him, i have bought every iteration of the mold so far and am more than ready to keep buying more of them, i cant wait for cybertron red alert and, hopefully, reboost, screech, and the other skids. i would buy a three-pack of just them, honestly, they would be an absolute joy to have by my side.
I'm actually really glad that we got this sequel, and I still think the original video on skids is still great. Even if it doesn't age that well, it's still a good monument to how a nobody, even someone as forgettable to most people as skids, can have a happy ending in the world of Transformers or hell, maybe even more than just transformers. Everyone has value, and everyone deserves to have their purpose fulfilled and realized, even something as silly as the blue Honda transformer. Not to mention, it's also quite the redemption arc, like I'm fairly certain that skids didn't get any attention for the longest time because people associate him with exclusively Revenge of the Fallen, I know for sure that's what happened with me, so the fact that it's not the case anymore is just amazing.

13:01 Honestly I didn’t notice this until you pointed this out, but yea you’re right. Masterpieces (besides Beast Wars maybe) don’t really have the same luster as they used to. It feels like 3p and Generations stole all of Takara’s thunder.

Legacy Skids is easily one of my favorite figures to come outta Lagacy! When I got him and turned him into his car mode for the first time, I was like "Yes! This FEELS right!" I was so happy to finally have one of my favorite characters in my collection! That same character who fell in love with from reading Issue #20 of the classic Marvel comic! That said, he needed better weapons. Thank you, third-party companies for making better TF accessories when Hasbro drops the ball! I got a set of 3 guns, 2 of which can be combined into 1. A rifle that looks IDW/Thirlling 30 inspired, a double-barrel gun, and a blue gun with a black barrel. And he looks great with them!

I snagged an MP reboost from BBTS last year for 1/2 price quickly became my favorite MP mold
Crosscut is one of my faves of the mold, the silver and red just *pops*

I have Velocitron Burnout & she is an absolute treat of a lass for sure, I only picked her up because I got Gen Selects Lift-Ticket & while I didn't & still don't care for him, he did make me get Burnout & for that I thank him for that as she is a perfectly competent deluxe carformer that I don't regret buying unlike Lift-Ticket.
My original Skids was confiscated by my 3rd grade teacher and put on top of the really tall cabinet in the classroom. This is where G.I.Joe figure Wild Bill and others ended up.
They never came back down.
