  • Today Mount Fuji takes center stage as we take a deeper dive into some beautiful ukiyo-e woodblock prints of this most famous mountain in Japan. After some quick history, we'll look at prints, starting in the 1750's and work our way up to the two most prominent artists of Mount Fuji, Hokusai, and Hiroshige. Hokusai's "36 Views of Mount Fuji" from 1830 includes the iconic "Under the Wave off of Kanagawa". Hiroshige proves once again that he is the master of Japanese landscape with his series, also named "36 Views of Mount Fuji". It is said, “A wise man climbs Mt. Fuji once, only a fool climbs it twice.” Mount fuji is more than a mountain, it is integral to the Japanese culture and symbolizes Japan’s natural beauty.
