I appreciate your insight. I had thought about doing this. I think it would be great for summers and those week long breaks Inget when not teaching during the school year. As far as retirement goes,, it would be great to go see the states even more. It certainly is worth the idea considering the cost of hotels, food and such. My neighbors are retired. They have a beautiful RV. They park it in Florida, Atlanta or wherever and don't have anything to worry about as far as lodging and food. They leave out mid December and don't return til Mid-May. They have family to sit the house. So cool!!

Hi, I would encourage you to make any change to your van as you see fit. What you are feeling is oh so normal for van lifers apartment dwellers and homeowners etc. We live in our spaces then find out this isn't working or I want this or I need that etc. It's all good. Where ever we live we improve an upgrade always. Because what once served us can change overtime. Thats why I'm redoing my yard for the 4th time Ughhh but as I am changing so will my space. I love your channel and I am obsessed with your energy and personality! Be blessed 🤗

Even my husband and I, like to be alone together. We have our own offices and we can do anything in there we want. He even has an extra man cave. this pandemic has showed us it's fine if we aren't together all the time and we love that about each other
Thanks for explaining AGM batteries. Lithium is super expensive up front but the benefits outweigh that. I’ll just budget to spend a little bit more on my solar set up.

All things lead back to the power source. People living in all electric houses and not using the electric company as a power source might say the same thing so you’re good. And it’s something you can “fix” down the line. I love your van, too. Van life scared me until I saw yours. I’m a Taurus and I love beautiful things so that glam van life makes all kind of sense to me. Keep on keeping on, sis.
Have a backup for your backup. Get a generator to backup your batteries when they are low on wattage.
Advise your subscribers to do their homework before venturing into van life; always going to have problems but being prepared helps to deal with problems. Love your channel, you're so real!
If you upgrade to lithium, you should also get a decent DC-DC Battery charger; it will charge your batteries as you drive, along with your solar. Solar alone won't be enough to recharge your batteries in a reasonable amount of time; especially in cloudy environments. 400AH of lithium will require 'at least' 800W of solar; I don't think you have space for that on your roof. Renogy do 20A, 40A and 60A DC-DC chargers; Victron do a 30A version. You'll also need to make sure your alternator is over 100A otherwise you'll burn it out (or go for a 20A DC-DC charger). Maybe someone can take a look at your alternator and advise you on the best DC-DC charger size to go with your alternator. Most people stick to 40A and below.
Unless you're considering running an office or adding more power-hungry electrical items, don't get drawn into installing a second alternator; they can be trouble if not installed correctly, and can invalidate any warranty you may have on your vehicle.
Also, lithium does not like to get cold. You can use their power, but you can't recharge the batteries when they're cold. So if you do head over to cold countries, like where I am, you should consider lithium batteries that have an internal heater (they will manage themselves), or get a heating pad installed below them so that you can use any brand. Relion do a low temperature version.
Lithium is definitely the way to go if you're not using gas/propane/lpg for cooking and heating.

Blessed resurrection day!♥ i suffer from migraines and sometimes I need to be antisocial. So glad you brought this up. I am like this at home so hopefully people can understand. Yes take care of you. I've seen barn door type doors on wetbaths. That way u can keep curtain as well. Doors made by carpenter with plywood. You can paint white or whatever. This was so informative. None of us would get everything right the first second or third time. Companies should be happy to install battery or door because the best advertisement for them is you!
I love these videos, thank you for sharing. I'm over 50 and my van will be my home fulltime until they take my driver's licence from me. May I make a suggestion, I am going to have a door to my shower/toilet, I decided on having a hinged door, that can open fully flat against the wall, so to speak, so you can open it as much as you'd like, still have your shower curtain and then you can keep the door open when showering and have the towel rail for your bath towel on the door on the inside, very useful and then a full length mirror on the other/outer side, just an idea, remember everything needs a dual purpose, those sliding doors aren't a necessity, as you have room to open a door and why not have a door with more than one purpose.

I’m new to Vanlife and my number one priority is it’s not to take anything with me campers or backpackers normally wouldn’t have with them and I’m doing just fine. Everything I have came from REI or Dicks sports. My van In my opinion is just a large tent ⛺️ or should I say mule on wheels.

I sure can relate to wanting to be left alone during a migraine! Even hearing a conversation at a normal volume just kills me. (And it always seems that my housemate just has to have long talks about house projects only after I tell him I have a migraine and need to lay down. 😖
I cant wait to get my van build and have some peace and solitude where someone elses bad mood doesn't ruin my day and my bad migraine day doesn't get taken as a personal rejection.

So your electrics are routed straight to your batteries and you have no inverter mediating? Your power would really escalate with an inverter.
How would i run all of my electrical without an inverter.

Okay, yes it can be done, electrical to batteries or relay to battery to fuse box. Like a house, but I'm just trying to understand how your two huge batteries(even quality is not in size), is being drained so quickly when you don't run all of your appliances at the same time, or even use them over night and when you wake you have very low power. I'm still building, by myself currently and I don't want to do the same. I did a quick setup for now and haven't had a problem yet. Just an extra battery run to my van battery and the 2nd battery to my inverter. Sometimes I have to turn inverter off when I'm driving because it beeps when too much power, but I run everything from this elementary setup just to get done what I need now. 😄

Lots of great info...so for me I think I would need about 900 watts of lithium batteries. I love hot showers...my 2000 watt hair dryer is used for about 1 hours twice a week...and I love to cook and don’t want propane. Thank you so much for the heads up. Consider getting a Lithionics Battery. It is the same size as a Batttleborn but You get more watts.
The one thing I've learned from watching TONS of van life videos like this is that you can almost never have too much battery capacity. If you have to cut cost from the build, don't let it be the batteries. When I finally get around to building my van, I want at least 600 amp hr lithium battery. The good thing is you can easily upgrade the batteries and add a built-in heater too.

Alone time is very much necessary. Not only for ourselves but for those that we are going to congregate with.
the battery/power supply terrifies me...... I also suffer from migraines and alone, dark, and medicated is all I wanna do. There are going to be times that I just want to be alone.
You might want to Google (Battle Born Batteries) on TH-cam they are lithium batteries they are pretty good then the next best controller for your power outlets or DC power look into a product called GroWatt. also on youtube. But in any case, do your research and get what is best for you and your budget. God Bless. PS. The (Battle Born batteries) are a bit expensive but they're worth every dime.

A short fix to keep things in your shower area and keeping the curtain from blowing out is a small gate. Like a child proof gate.

Hi Girl I can identify with everything sometimes you just want to relax and be alone with you. As for the things you would change I agree especially the batteries. I am a TH-cam van life junkie, I am to old to change and do van life so I have to travel and see the world by all other alternative means. I "wanted" AGM batteries. Everyone and their mom told me to get lithium but i didnt listen. I blame noone but myself.

Replace the shower door in the future. I can tell you really want to replace it. Set a future date to work towards replacing the door and do it. Upgrade the batteries as soon as you can. A girl has to have her hot shower.
I’m trying to keep my vintage van build on propane for furnace, hot water heater and stove if they all work

Thought you may have this in the USA, in Australia along the Harbour/Marina we have free outside power plugs on the side of the road where you can park for free, I'm not sure if it's in the cities, but it's in the country towns that are on the coast, that way you could eat and shower for free, just an idea.

My husband is very antisocial and even though I'm a lot more social than he, I get ya girl, we all have are moments, that's what makes us human, even though I'm social, I'm not feeling it all the time, but I do work at Walmart so I do have to shut that down a lot, which can be frustrating, but I still need a paycheck to pay Bill's and my husband isn't working, so it's all on me right now, granted he took care of all us for 13 years so it's my turn, and I've been working a solid 6 years this October, no problem, but as females, I get you girl! Antoinette , have you checked out the Laveo dry flush toilet. I'm doing some research on portable toilets in prep for my weekend test of van life and came across this really cool toilet. Not sure what you already have, but if it's not this one...you gotta check this thing out!

Yeah, you should get at least 300-400ah of lithium and 600-800w of solar if you're running on all electric and no propane

Thats always an option but why buy more AGM with i can have better batteries that will free up space.
