A couple of these can be remedied pretty easily at least I think. The easiest is the utensil drawer. It needs a shelf that can be lifted out. It will help use the vertical space and make it easier to organize. Then just add a couple of dividers in there to help organize it further. Another is the stovetop situation. Have you thought about getting a portable propane camping stove? There are some really great ones out there now and they don't take up much space. Then you'd just need to buy a couple of the small propane canisters for it. Or get a slightly bigger one with two burners and a larger tank. There is something magical to cooking outdoors and if you do invest in one you'd be able to cook nearly anywhere. I have even more ideas but they start to get expensive and more complicated. I hope these ideas help though.

For the toilet situation you could get a bin for now and use composting soil and make some kind of lid that would work for a toilet

Hey Pretty girl, I think you did an awesome job on your built. The stove, fridge, fan, and other challenges are changes you probably could have not forseen without living in your van for an extended period; but glad they might be things you can modify in the future. I love your smile and laughter; so contagious. Thanks for sharing your positive energy and making my Sunday a much better one. Stay safe....hugs... 143!

Try Avocado 🥑 and Peanut 🥜 Butter Toast. They make a TWO BURNER Propane Stove that would easily fit in the passenger side door well. About $49.95 The 1 pound propane tanks are REFILLABLE. Also a Round Porta Potty, $45.00 that could be covered, and used as an extra seat, or even a Hassock/ Foot Rest. You would need bags, Kitty Litter, or Horse Pellets, Low Prices on both.

for the cooktop, id look into getting a pot divider or maybe a pan with a built-in divider. I mean both sides are in the same pan and therefore on the same heat setting no matter what but if u wanted to heat up 2 things at the same time or have one side empty for just toasting bread/ warming tortillas that might help! also boiling 2 things at once! Pots do take up space but I think it could help! Separate dividers to stick into pots won't take up much space tho.
as for the drawer, I was thinking of ways to do a false bottom. maybe halfway up you can put a small ridge in it and try to find or form a basket (or maybe make a smaller box out of wood) to fit/ sit on the ridge? if it was just a bottom it would be impossible to get to the underneath but a basket with arms or handles to pick it up might work! the specifics are kinda tricky and you've probably already thought of those things but that's just how id do it. I've seen stacking metal baskets with collapsible handles but I can't remember where, sorry😭 I'm probably just imagining a double boiler/ steamer basket kind of situation but in drawer form lol.

I would invite you to consider getting a Thetford Porta Potty and a little butane stove. These two products make living in a van extremely comfortable!

I use a 5 gal bucket with compostable bags and either wood shavings or this new kitty litter called Feline Pine. I just throw away my toilet paper/baby wipes in my trash so the compostable bag and pine shavings/my waste breaks down faster and leaves no paper or fibers behind in the ground. Although digging in the winter is kind of a pain and sometimes have to throw the bags in my/public trash :( but that's what everyone does that owns a dog so...
Edit: I also just use it at night or when I'm around people, so I only have to empty it every 2-4 days, depending on how much I use it. The compostable bag breaks down after more than 4 days, probably quicker in summertime, haven't used it in summer yet.

    • @sarahyak_

I would ideally have one set in the countertop rather than one I have to take out and put away, but I have used a propane camping stove before when I was in a pinch
