The game was surprisingly balanced. At times both sides felt a little broken, but the power level and abilities felt cool and powerful, and the decisions made by the players felt important and decisive. Very cool game.
Great game, awesome playthrough! Thanks for showcasing :-) Unfortunately Naveen subconsciously removed the wrong unit at 26:40... after specifically explaining that he‘d rather not remove the clinger..... he removed the clinger 🙃
I really liked this playthrough! You do a great job explaining what you're doing while also keeping the game fun and the gameflow natural. I already watched a Root video on your own channel after watching this, and I wouldn't be surprised if I end up watching more. Thanks for the great content!
At 23:45 the slinger should’ve rolled an extra die against the gate, because there was an additional friendly unit (the other slinger) adjacent to it. Both units don’t have to be adjacent for it to work, but yes the other slinger rolled the right amount of dice, because there was no additional adjacent unit to the gate.
I just played this game with my 9 year old daughter, first time either of us has ever played it. I was Sneaks and the Cave Goblin faction, and she was Sera Eldwyn and the Vanguards. At first I was worried she was experiencing "information overload" with all the text on the cards, but with a little help from me to keep her on track she did remarkably well. The game dragged on a little bit for her, and she started to signal she was losing focus, but then she drew a couple Champions and she all of a sudden didn't want the game to end quite yet ... I did up KO'ing the good Sera Eldwyn in the end. The best part is when I asked my daughter "So if when we play again will you try Vanguards again or try a different faction?", and she answered "I think I'll keep trying these until I win, then I'll try another one.". I asked her "How long do you think it will take you win?" was my follow up questions. To which she quickly replied, "tomorrow" (Monday). I was like "How about next Saturday?". She insisted we shake on it! Love it :) Great game, I assume it only gets better when you start to know all the cards intimately ...
That's so awesome - you love to see your kids develop a sense of confidence, and drive to stick with something. And yes, as you each get to know your factions better, you'll find each game goes a little faster. Have a great time playing together!
Thanks for the video! I enjoyed watching the playthrough. I'm a fan of the first-edition Summoner Wars, and this helped me decide to buy the second edition. One thing I noticed: on the turn that Naveen played Chant of Power (starting around 40:30 in the video), he actually only had 3 magic at the start of the turn; so he could have played two out of three of Border Archer, Spirit Mage, and Chant of Power, but not all three in the same turn.
Naveen might have won - looks like he only rolled 3 dice instead of 4 on the second attack in the penultimate turn. Very close. I liked the back and forth of the different factions.
I noticed around the 26 minute mark, Naveen said he was attacking the Climber to leave the Clinger stuck, rolled the hits, but then removed the Clinger. May have meant that he could attack the Clinger with his Summoner if it was left on the board.
Well, any mistakes would be unintended, not cheating - but no mistake was made here, the Horde Climber's effect lets it move through structures. Hope that helps!
This is giving me strong dueling TCG vibes, those swings were super fun and stressful to watch! I hope someday I get the chance to try this with my TCG buddy.
@@WatchItPlayed Thanks! Yeah, in the video it's mentioned that you need to move through empty spaces. At 36:00 Monique moves through Naveen's gate. But, I didn't saw it was a horde goblin, which does allows you to move through structures. All good, confusion cleared, my bad 😬
Not used to Summoner's Wars, but I'm jsut curious throughout watching this video...if the elves' faction depends highly on Magic...don't they have a unit/structure that can build magic overtime? Much like farming in RTS games? Or is eliminating opponent units' the only way for them to acquire magic? Just curious....i love watching these complex card games btw, and very much pleased by both Monique & Naveen's pure sportsmanship while playing. Always a fan
Marc provides a good clarification below, it's more that the goblins reply on less magic than normal. Thanks for checking out the video and the kind words!
The game was surprisingly balanced. At times both sides felt a little broken, but the power level and abilities felt cool and powerful, and the decisions made by the players felt important and decisive. Very cool game.
Glad you enjoyed - yes, each faction has it's strengths, and exploiting them at the right moment is key!
Great game, awesome playthrough! Thanks for showcasing :-)
Unfortunately Naveen subconsciously removed the wrong unit at 26:40... after specifically explaining that he‘d rather not remove the clinger..... he removed the clinger 🙃
He was feeling the pressure against Monique forces!
You guys are so fun to watch. Want to run out and buy the game now.
Thanks so much - I hope you get a chance to play!

Good catch - adding to the subtitles!

you guys became my fav boardgamers a few weeks ago and now you're on one of my other fav boardgame channels. :D
So glad you're enjoying the excellent work Monique and Naveen are doing :)
Great demonstration of the asymmetric factions! No spoilers, but lots of dramatic twists.
Very glad you enjoyed David!
“The thing about these climbers is that they climb.” 😂 Monique, you’re the best!
I love the energy of Monique and Naveen. I am looking forward to my play even more now!
I hope you really enjoy it!

Good catch! Marking in the subtitles. Looks like Naveen subconsciously wasn't ready to win!
No, he shouldn't have been able to use Enchant of Power. He only had 3 mana but said he had 4. He gave himself an extra mana on accident.
Love how you continually explain the game and moves throughout the game.
You guys are the BEST!
So glad you appreciate that mix of game play with guidance on what's happening!
I clicked faster than...than... I don't know what but I clicked so fast
Hope you had fun :)
Very entertaining playthrough to watch. Thanks! I received my copy today, so am super excited to have a go myself.
I hope you have a fantastic time playing Carl - very glad you enjoyed the video too :)
Awesome gameplay!! I have this reserved at my LGS. Can't wait to play.
I hope you have a great time with it!

Yeah, that might have been a slight misspeak about the intention.
Great playthrough! And it's very helpful that all the units were explained when they hit the board!
Glad you found those details helpful Peter!
I love the colab between watch it playes and before you play!!
We're so happy you're enjoying it Marcelo!
They should just merge the two names : Before you Play, Watch it Played!
Heh, like peanut butter and jelly!
Intense and awesome game, great explaining the game rules too!
Thanks Toronto :) Appreciate your kind words on the video!
Aww, classic Watch It Played throwback.
We've come full circle!
Just preordered this after watching you two. If my partner and I have half the fun you two are having in this video, it will be worth it.
Thanks for checking out the video and letting us know it was helpful Michael - have fun playing!
SUSD and NPI dragged me in. I was looking for a 2 player battle game.
Looks like the best duel game I've ever seen.
So glad you enjoyed - thanks for checking it out!
I think Monique cheated by moving her hoard climber through cards around 35:55. Am I wrong?
Well, any mistakes would be unintended, not cheating - but no mistake was made here, the Horde Climber's effect lets it move through structures. Hope that helps!
Definitely ordering this game after watching!
Glad you enjoyed what you saw - have fun playing!
This is giving me strong dueling TCG vibes, those swings were super fun and stressful to watch! I hope someday I get the chance to try this with my TCG buddy.
There's an online demo you can try for free right from the Plaid Hat Games website (and it works really well).
Bought the game after watching this playthrough. Good stuff
So glad you enjoyed - have a great time playing!
If this doesn't get you to buy summoner wars I'm not sure what will
Glad you enjoyed Akmal :)
Wow I am excited to finally have this game in my hands! Hoping to see more people preorder this amazing game
I'm excited for more people to discover this classic title that's been refreshed!
Oh, I can’t wait for this one to land. Fingers crossed enough preorders hit before 5/1 for stretch goals!
I'm excited for more people to be able to try out this new edition!
Ohhh… realy fun game. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
So glad you enjoy it!
Amazing! This game looks epic. Wonderful Play-Through, any idea on when this comes out?
I "think" May, as that's when pre-orders end: www.plaidhatgames.com/board-games/summoner-wars/
This definitely makes me wanna buy the game (and hope someone wants 2 play w me!)
I hope you find someone too - thanks for checking out the video!
This is the most intense game (plus it's super funny) that I watched this two on
Always nice to hear the videos are being enjoyed :)
Can monsters move through gates?
Hey Marcelo, you'll find the full rules video here: th-cam.com/video/ESi7bZ2xcM0/w-d-xo.html
Glad you got it sorted :)
When are you going to get your cartoon versions added to the Watch it Played lineup?
Those take a little time. It was about 6 months or so for the rest of the team, so likely around the same time.
This game shows the value of horde management. Gotta keep the goblin population in check!
Indeed!
Subtitles in Klingon? Now, there's an incentive to finally do that Klingon course on Duolingo... :D
Finally!

Killing units and discarding cards both gain you magic. I dont recall a faction that generates extra magic but it might exist.
Also it's not that the elves depend highly on magic, they depend a normal amount on magic, the cave goblins just rely less than normal on magic
Marc provides a good clarification below, it's more that the goblins reply on less magic than normal. Thanks for checking out the video and the kind words!
great !
Somehow first
You did it!
