@@cyd6691 Where I grew up a kid, there was always Barbadian coins in circulation (IIRC you'd get a coin that was very similar to our penny). It was weird, since this was Canada, and a largely white community (Canada at the time was probably well over 80% white, with the majority of non-whites living in larger cities). Still, they looked cool!
As a Barbadian I approve of this message. Now we just like some of our money back

That being said, there didn't seem to be any actual current rancor between Barbados (or Rhianna) and the Queen. It's funny to me on one level because I love saucy, edgy provocative works that callback to our own nation's revolutionary war against the Crown, but I have mixed feelings, because Queen Elizabeth II has never seemed a terrible person to me. The English colonial governments of yesteryear, during slavery trade, definitely deserve such rancor, though.
I don’t see any real hostility here or even in the real world actions of Barbados. The British monarchy is just irrelevant to them at this point.
I do think this clip was a bit ballsy given how ill the queen has been recently. Imagine how awkward they’d feel if this came out hours before her death.

Rhianna, as a citizen of a Commonwealth Nation (until this split), was eligible to be knighted for her contributions to the arts, but she never was. Take a look at a list of British subjects who have received such honors for being artists, authors, musicians or performers of some ilk... you will see a pattern.

We could do it anytime we wanted. The question is "get rid of the monarchy and replace it with what?" Right now the monarchy acts as a place where we can dump all sorts of state power under the term "the crown" and the politicians can't technically get direct access to it. Until we can trust each other not to raid the cookie jar this weird political equivalent of freezing your credit card in a block of ice so you can't impulse buy might be the best course.
