Packaging tips for shipping books to an Amazon FBA warehouse

- This video walks through best practices on how to pack a box of books to ship to an Amazon FBA warehouse. In general, books are fairly sturdy so as long as you pack them tightly in a box so they don't have much room to move around, you'll be in good shape. Fill the remainder of the box with crushed paper or bubble wrap (no packing peanuts allowed!), and you're on your way out the door!

I use 3" packing tape, seems to hold much better, stronger and you can use less tape overall. I many times use the Walmart 12"x12"10.5" boxes that cost about 56c each, and they tend to fill to about 30-35lbs. Which I think is the IDEAL weight, easier on the body/back, and seems to go much better thru shipping. You don't need double-thickness cardboard boxes then (they increase your shipping costs). I have tested many times dropping boxes, and 30-35lb boxes do not tend to break open when doing a chest-high drop, but a 50lb box will many times bust open, so shipping damage will be higher. I have shipped thousands of those Walmart boxes, and never had any shipping damage on my books. Just my insight from my personal experiences. Bob Willey
Seems like that is a very small box your using? 12" x 12" x 10.5" ?
let me know if you need a helper dropping boxes and breaking stuff, I'm your guy
I’ll add also (in my mind it matters); I pack my books with the amazon label on the books facing up. I feel it makes quick work for the guy checking my books in and hopefully they don’t miss anything!
EverydayFBA hey, is it possible to have more than 1 type of item? So if someone lets say wants to buy book1 and i have more than 20 books in the box; the person responsible will search in the box?
Can you tell me what size sheet of labels I should buy to place on books or for that matter anything I would send into Amazon? I've never shipped into Amazon so unclear what I need for my first shipment of books as far as labels. Thanks
The tape on the edges is nice. Gives it extra protection for those 50 pound boxes. Learned that move from a Fedex employee. They really are a lovable bunch.
Yes, another video. Haven't seen Caleb in so long. Keep up the awesome work!
Awesome video. Well made, step by step, no extra.
Thanks for those little pointers! Great suggestions...anything to keep things on track!
I put bubble wrap on the bottom.
Thanks for that video. Can I put the books I send in a self adhesive bag that has Warning for suffocation? Is that going to be ok with amazon packing requirements
Thank you I needed to see this! Was wondering if I could fill in some small gaps with paper. Thanks again!
Nice video man :)
Good info for new sourcers! I do basically the same things but I make sure that there is a barrier between the top opening and the books directly underneath. I worked for Borders for many years, as well as moving frequently with a large book collection, and know the dangers of box cutters. A sliced cover is no fun. I don't make a point to put the labels all the same way, but I do agree with only standing the books on edge when they are wedged in tight. The part of boxing I am clumsy on is that I list and label (amazon app and printing from my computer), pack them into the box, weigh it (remove books if over 50lbs), then create a shipment on my computer and print labels. It takes a while but I can't add in more subscription fees or gadgets at this point. Any ideas how to make that faster?
When you finish taping the boxes up labeled and all how do you do the shipping? Does ups come to your house and take your boxes or do you go to the post office no one is explaining this process
@@Renbacktome for UPS shipments you drop off at your nearest UPS shipping location. For me that was either Staples or a small business. You cannot drop UPS boxes at the post office (USPS) because they are different companies. I belive you can schedule UPS to pick up at your address but I don't know the process for that. I had to close my business due to shrinking profit margins and health issues.
This is the same person as above, just different account.
Surprised that the seller didn't include a packing slip! But then again, he probably had everything already labeled. What does one do when paying to have Amazon label everything?
When sending in used books...do I need any type of labels for each book? I've never shipped into amazon so are there any prep costs or label costs beside the shipping label cost into a warehouse?
Do you recommend a certain smaller printer exclusively for printing the labels on the items that you send in? I'm doing my first FBA shipment today but paying the .20 per item for labels as I don't have the labels necessary to send them in just yet. Can I just use my HP DeskJet MG6820 printer for that? thanks!
What printer do you use for Amazon labels? Can you use the same printer shipping labels on EBay and Poshmark? I did the same thing you did paying .20 cents per item.

Thanks for the video. Dimensions of the box please?
18 x 12 x 10
What if you one box is not enough? Do you have to print a separate shipping label for the second box? Or can you use the same shipping label? Sorry, I have not sold on Amazon FBA so I’m still learning.
Each box needs its own label, and if you have more than one box you'll need to do box level contents so Amazon knows which items are in which boxes. Much easier if you stick to a single box!
The Book Flipper Community thank you! I love your content! As for new amz FBA sellers, are books restricted/gated? I just want to know what I can sell right off the bat as soon as this whole pandemic is over! How do I get ungated for other categories, for instance, I want to sell toys and shoes(particularly Nike/Adidas/etc) once again, thank you for your awesome content, all I’ve been doing is watching your videos along with other resellers during this quarantine! Gotta feed the mind before I feed the BEAST!
Wait - Amazon is fulfilling these orders; to be ready to ship, would you not have to have them in individual bubble-wrapped envelopes? You can just stick the bar code right on the book and not otherwise individually prep them?
No need to individually prep the books, other than by throwing a sticker on the back to identify the book. Pretty simple!
Are you fucking serious I’ve been individually bubble wrapping my books for years I don’t have to???
@@mrmeseeks5731 Yeah. No need to wrap books for FBA.
@@TSBye-qo1vc do you technically have to label each book? And where do you get the labels .I'm confused!
@@Renbacktome Another youtuber who explains all of this is called Raiken Profits.
Obviously the lower the BSR the better but how high is your BSR where you decide not to buy? i see so many books for sale but very little profits, $1-$3 profit..
I've got plenty of research done on sales ranks over on my blog: thebookflipper.com. Enjoy the read!
Caleb: do you take pictures of every book or just condition them accurately and not worry about the pics? I don't want to mess with pics and would rather save time to send in more instead if possible. I want to do what is right though and not have any issue.
thanks.
You can't add pictures at scale - I've never added a photo, just described it properly and carried on!
That is what I thought but I wanted to check with you first. I am going to do exactly that and like a lot of folks say under-promise and over-deliver! Thx.
@@TheBookFlipper
thanks very much for share it, well can you tell em how amazon will send these book when a customer purchase one? the put a amazon box? has a cost? thanks
Amazon charges FBA (Fulfillment By Amazon) fees to manage your shipments from their warehouse to the customer. It's awesome though, since I don't have to fulfill orders myself.
Do you list your books first or ship to amazon first?
List first, then ship, then sell, then REPEAT!
@@TheBookFlipper do you have to buy any labels for putting on the books or box? And do you basically have to always buy bubble wrap?
why you are not packing book inside a plastic bag before putting inside box?like other youtubers//
did i just watched a guy putting books in to a box!
don’t need labels for the books?
You do
@@xavierj5423 how do you get labels or where? No one is answering this particular question
@@Renbacktome Well the way I do it personally is with a normal cannon printer, using “1X 2(5/8)” address labels (30 labels per sheet) by Avery. You can get them from Walmart, Amazon etc.
@@xavierj5423 I saw a video on this thanks. I just ordered some to be ready. I was wondering though does ups come to your house and take the boxes? Or do you go to a post office and tell them to ship it to Amazon? I'm confused on that part mostly
@@Renbacktome You prep a shipment through Amazon. You can choose to have UPS pick it up but you have to schedule/pay for it. I take it to the ups office myself.
So you don’t put your books in poly bags?
Don’t have to.
