Thank you for the video...this has helped me a lot to understand visually about the thermal decomposition of zinc carbonate...and why does it turn yellow.Thank you.
Is carbon dioxide produced in all thermal decomposition reactions? And is the limewater to show that it is thermal decomposition because carbon dioxide is produced?
No, the zinc Oxide becomes yellow while heated because it loses some oxygen and shifts to this color. (The process is a bit more complicated but this isn't important) When it cools it gets reversed to it's original white color, so the product is still Zinc Oxide.
When heated, it forms zinc oxide - when hot, zinc oxide actually loses a fraction of its oxygen atoms and forms a non stoichiometric compound. Simply put, some of the oxygen atoms go missing when zinc oxide becomes hot because they get lost to the air - this forms gaps between the zinc ions. This is known as an interstitial crystal defect - owing to the electric fields between the zinc ions, you get a yellow coloration.

Yes , you are right 🙂
Thanks sir for the informative video as it will come to my 20 mark project ❤
The tune is so relaxing
Thank you .....I can understand very well from this video
Nice one

Ruby Finneran it is only produced in carbonates
May I ask whether you have recorded the mass change for this experiment?
A doubt here! When we leave the yellow zinc oxide to cool it turns white. Does that mean it turns into zinc carbonate again?
[Please answer urgently]

How many seconds does it take to happen
Thank you 🙏
hey i have a question why does zinc carbonate turn yellow when heat and goes back to white when cool down ??????
When heated, it forms zinc oxide - when hot, zinc oxide actually loses a fraction of its oxygen atoms and forms a non stoichiometric compound. Simply put, some of the oxygen atoms go missing when zinc oxide becomes hot because they get lost to the air - this forms gaps between the zinc ions. so it turn white again due to the oxygen in the air? is that right
very helpful!!! tq so much!
Awesome
Sheeeesh
Kal hai practical
Thank u
it happens
спосипо
Bad music
How does that even matter
Alfin Basheet 😂😂
Voiceovers are better lol
