@@crabbymilton390I didn’t know DD12’s were a thing, I knew there DD13 and the DD15 exist on the other hand besides the DD16, I think there’s also one called the DD8
@@crabbymilton390oh, yeah I’m actually a school bus driver, my bus is a 2011 thomas C2, it’s got a 7.2L Mercedes In-line-6 turbocharged diesel in it. I love my bus
Nowadays it’s less about the number of cylinders. Word has is that THOMAS is going to discontinue this engine and offer the CUMMINS as the sole diesel in a few years. Seems odd that they would not stick with an engine built by a sister division but rather outsource to CUMMINS.
@@crabbymilton390 I've already witnessed 3 DD5s get rebuilt within the time I've started working And they are only like 1-3 years old, once the warranties are up it's all over with for the schools It costs over $20k to rebuild these things, When was the last time I ever saw a Cummins have to get rebuilt? Never lol
@@ThatOneLT1 Believe me I’m fine with that being a CUMMINS stockholder of over 20 years. But you would still think the mighty DAIMLER empire with about a century of experience building diesel engines would have gotten this engine right. Oh well.
Why the hell do I feel like there’s a hytera starting up in the background?
I honestly like the DD16 better, the Detroit engines in Freightliner Cascadias, I got more into trucks all of a sudden
Well the DD12(0M 471) is the sole engine in that beautiful new TOURRIDER coach. Obviously a dependable and proven engine family.

@@mörriscarlson86 I meant DD13 not 12. The DD8 is the 6 cylinder version of the DD5. It’s available in the THOMAS HDX.
