Oh this Batman didnt care about killing. He was at the point where his rules were off the table. He built back up to his rules. But this Mutant Leader was something else.
Plenty of oooos and ahhs, during which the Batman was setting the fight for his own life. And the example was mud and blood in the Mutants eye. So a few broken bones are just plain required.
Even better, it shows how Batman can still be a threat at 60. He's not stronger, but he's smarter and more experienced. He fought him like a "surgeon", not a brawler, tactically playing his opponent right into his hands and then breaking his limbs one by one.

I don't see how it's particularly dirty when it comes to boxing, I mean you are trying to deliberately hit above the eyes to get that cut as opposed to aiming for the temple or chin

Boxers especailly know that head wounds bleed alot and blood in the eyes burns like a son of a bitch, whilenit may end some bouts in a sport setting, in a street setting it partially blinds the recipient and they have to suffer until the fights ends (or even more after it ends if it's the wrong guy).
I’ve watched this fight a few times but I just realized how good the sound design is. There’s so much impact in the hits. Each hit sounds like it could break a regular persons bones. Combine that with the really great percussion and low brass in the soundtrack and the whole thing feels heavy, visceral and violent.

Funny thing, Frank Miller was credited as writer in Robocop 2, did a cameo and even give this 'Believe me men i'll do it - I believe you' DKR quote to the movie as well.
The greatness of Batman, always finds a way to level the playing field. And can we give some love to how awesome Peter Weller is as Batman? That “You don’t get it, son-this isn’t a mud hole,” line, with the music and the delivery...wooo, gives me chills!
Never seen another animated just quite as excellent as this one. Hits all the marks. Great pacing, very impactful hits, great dialogue, and overall just amazing soundtrack.

I don't think it implies fixing anything. An operating table is exactly what it is. A table for operating on something, whether morally good or morally bad. In it's basic form, to operate on something means to work on it, and nothing about that implies anything towards fixing.

I think the opposite is true. In his prime he would have used the minimum required force to neutralize him. Now he doesn't really hold back anymore. Him killing the joker really did highlight that he is now willing to cross his own imaginary lines to do what is necessary.

It's also pretty much taken word for word from the classic Frank Miller comic. It's a very faithful adaption. They even kept the weird Gotham slang Miller invented (Batman don't shiv, Leader Billy Berserk, and all that stuff). With such excellent source material, they didn't have to change a single thing to make this one of the best Batman tales ever.
I still get goosebumps watching their reactions to seeing their fearless leader get picked apart and dismantled. Demoralizing for them and satisfying to us at the same time. Batman is a GOAT bro Shoutsout to Frank Miller for this amazing story
He took him to the hospital, of course he stayed in the ICU for a while... Never walked straight or got the full use of his right arm or leg back... But Batman didn't kill him. xD
People seem to forget that batman is technical and a tactician. Notice how at first he only goes for the weak but hard to hit spots like the sides where it's nice and soft and your liver is chillin. Once he wears him down he goes for the main spots that the mutant has built up to take damage. Then once he's got him weak, stunned, and on his back he gets even more technical with the jiu jitsu holds and breaks his bones
I remember seeing this scene in one of the best TNBA episodes, it wasn't that brutal then, then after reading the comics, I realized how brutal and disturbing,yet cooler scene it could be. Kudos to man Frank Miller himself.
This clip shows why Batman was so formidable not only was he physically strong he was also an expert tactician. He knew on a one to one combat the Mutant leader had the advantage being younger and physically stronger than him so he compensated this by fighting in a mud pit and using superior combat strategy to slow him down and weaken him. Managers should be shown this clip to explain what good strategy is.
This Batman is 100% done fucking around. He won’t kill you but he’ll make sure you’re unable to eat solid food for a month, much less break out of prison.

I feel like Batman was having fun with this fight. He could've dodged more of the Leader's attacks but he let himself get hit, he wanted to feel alive and really went his anger on that bastard.
Some of the lines Batman has in this movie are so iconic and epitomise the essence of the dark knight like, "This isn't a mudhole; it's an operating table...and I'm the surgeon", and when addressing Superman after beating him down by using intelligence and force "I didn't have to go easy on you...I want you to remember that...in all the years to come, in your most private moments; I want you to remember the one man who beat you." There are plenty more that I could mention! I still don't feel any live action version or actor has been able to truly become the dark knight. The only one that came close was perhaps the dark knight trilogy in my opinion, but even that didn't fully give you that feeling that Batman is this supremely intelligent and highly trained martial artist that is formidable, unstoppable, inevitable and unable to be intimidated. Some sort of constant stalking shadow that never stops, cannot be overpowered and a source of terror. For me that's the true dark knight, and until a live action version portrays that and hones in that. I'll still prefer the animated versions. GREAT Animated MOVIE still to this day. Shows that even when Frank Miller's first book on the shelves came only in books everyone I knew was wanting a movie of some sort on the Comics. It is just that good. If ever a movie is made they are nowadays to screw it up and piss everybody off. Hollywood can't seem to stick to the point of the story. Out of the hundreds of time I've watched this scene I never noticed batman going into the mud with the mutant leader
People seem to forget that batman is technical and a tactician. Notice how at first he only goes for the weak but hard to hit spots like the sides where it's nice and soft and your liver is chillin. Once he wears him down he goes for the main spots that the mutant has built up to take damage. Then once he's got him weak, stunned, and on his back he gets even more technical with the jiu jitsu holds and breaks his bones
I remember seeing this scene in one of the best TNBA episodes, it wasn't that brutal then, then after reading the comics, I realized how brutal and disturbing,yet cooler scene it could be. Kudos to man Frank Miller himself.
I was hoping they would have gotten Michael Ironside because he did great in that episode. Peter Weller is great too.
This has to be my fav batman animated cinema of all time.
This clip shows why Batman was so formidable not only was he physically strong he was also an expert tactician. He knew on a one to one combat the Mutant leader had the advantage being younger and physically stronger than him so he compensated this by fighting in a mud pit and using superior combat strategy to slow him down and weaken him. Managers should be shown this clip to explain what good strategy is.

I loved this scene. Batman proved that even if he's physically overmatched, he was an excellent strategist and a more worthy leader.

I feel like Batman was having fun with this fight. He could've dodged more of the Leader's attacks but he let himself get hit, he wanted to feel alive and really went his anger on that bastard.

Im all for flashy powers/martial arts and stuff. But nothing beats a a gritty, savage, bear knuckle beat down.
Exactly, I'm all for a flashy fight scene but when the *impacts* don't feel *impactful* like this, it 's more like a dance than a fight.

Some of the lines Batman has in this movie are so iconic and epitomise the essence of the dark knight like, "This isn't a mudhole; it's an operating table...and I'm the surgeon", and when addressing Superman after beating him down by using intelligence and force "I didn't have to go easy on you...I want you to remember that...in all the years to come, in your most private moments; I want you to remember the one man who beat you." There are plenty more that I could mention!
I still don't feel any live action version or actor has been able to truly become the dark knight. The only one that came close was perhaps the dark knight trilogy in my opinion, but even that didn't fully give you that feeling that Batman is this supremely intelligent and highly trained martial artist that is formidable, unstoppable, inevitable and unable to be intimidated. Some sort of constant stalking shadow that never stops, cannot be overpowered and a source of terror. For me that's the true dark knight, and until a live action version portrays that and hones in that. I'll still prefer the animated versions.

Just love how Batman beats his bigger opponent from slowing him down in mud, showing how he’s more skilled in combat, cut above his eyes to blur his vision, hit him more in his injured nose, chi blocked (lack for better word lol) his arm and finally broke 2 more limbs before beating his already malformed face to a pulp.

GREAT Animated MOVIE still to this day. Shows that even when Frank Miller's first book on the shelves came only in books everyone I knew was wanting a movie of some sort on the Comics. It is just that good. If ever a movie is made they are nowadays to screw it up and piss everybody off. Hollywood can't seem to stick to the point of the story. They just can't really make good movies like they used to.
