The 'indigenous woman' is in the movie, but she's played by the very white/European American Gladiator, Diamond AKA Erika Andersch. The character who isn't in the movie, is the little guy in the dungarees, who seems to be the lead Red Triangle Circus Gang engineer in the comic adaptation.
Of course it’s Shreck’s Department Store! Remember, Selena references the BEDDING DEPARTMENT when dancing with Bruce and Penguin shoots mannequins when trying to take Chip hostage! Get with it man!! 😂😂 (I may have seen this movie a few too many times…🤣)
Also thanks for putting up my audio for proper context: a while back Andrew and Ben were covering an unmade watchmen movie and I think it was said that they would want Arnold Schwarzenegger back then. Andrew said he’d love to hear him delivering those awesome lines and I just happen to be able to do a shitty impression and the rest is history. Thanks for putting it on this episode that came out on my birthday! Great birthday present!
Great video! I got both covers recently at this used toy store in Pittsburgh. They have so much 89 and Returns merch. Definitely my favorite place to go. I recently reread the prose novelizations of the original 4 films and Returns has these deleted scenes in there as well, making me wish they weren't cut from the final film. The thug Catwoman attacks during her debut would have been a nice parallel if they got the same thug from 89 and just kept going with it lol like have him get attacked by Robin in the third film and for him to just flip out and be like "yeah I'm getting out of this insane city". The little scenes of the kids going about their nights before being abducted would have made it even more intense so I wish it was included, but the movie had so much trouble as is so I can see why it didn't happen. Overall, fun video, I love when you guys do stuff like this. Gonna watch the 89 one after the gym tonight!
I always figured that The Red Triangle Circus Gang members who were apprehended by Batman during their kidnap of the kids, would have been able to clear Batman's name for murder etc. I doubt the police would give him a pass on the basis of his other good deeds. They'd want to arrest someone for the earlier crimes, which caused such chaos and alarm in Gotham.
I used to own the prestige format collector's edition of DC's in-house comic book adaptation of "Batman Returns"--with Dave Dorman's gorgeous wraparound painted cover--for many years until it literally disintegrated (due to me reading it constantly); now I own it again as part of the long-out-of-print trade paperback Batman: The Movies, which reprinted all four of DC's in-house comic book adaptations of the four live-action "Batman" films directed by Tim Burton and the late Joel Schumacher. Though the late Steve Erwin's art in the "Batman Returns" comic adaptation pales in comparison to Jerry Ordway's incredible art--and it's still pretty godd**n incredible, even after nearly thirty-five years--for the adaptation to the 1989 "Batman" movie (which I also owned in my teens), it's still fairly decent compared to the dismal artwork that ultimately appeared in the adaptations for both "Batman Forever" and "Batman & Robin."
Another great episode Ben and Andrew! Thank you so much for reading my comment, very much appreciated. Also really good you covered Batman Returns as it is a festive watch for me this time of year! Lol.
As for the no glass inside the building, Shreck easily could have claimed that it had already been cleaned up. 12:47 - That should have killed the Pattinson Batman, and he brushes it off like a mild stumble. And this came right after he was facing a huge, fiery explosion 5 feet away that knocked him 15 feet back, and he didn't even have a scratch on his face. That's when the movie really started to lose me. Trying to be "gritty and realistic" and expects you to swallow suspension of disbelief-killing nonsense like that. The Keaton Batman may have been in a much more fanciful Gotham, but the physics were more realistic. After he crashes in the Batwing, Batman is bloody and limping.

Steve Erwin, the illustrator for the Batman Returns comic adaptation, sadly died in October of this year. RIP.
There is a shirtless Val Kilmer in Batman Forever. Maybe they were inspired by this comic adaptation.
I never realized the ball took place at the Shreck department store. Thought it was in a hotel, convention center or something.

"I am Robin"
Then bring Nick back for Batman & Robin, only to be beaten up by Batgirl: "I am Batgirl!"

I might have some answers for some of your questions for these adaptations later on todays meetup

Where is Zach? I miss seeing him on the show.😢
32:38 This payoff doesn’t make any sense as the dilapidated zoo isn’t Gotham’s power supply.

Ah finally some nasty penguin coverage! The forbidden fruit of my childhood rears it’s head again! 😂😂😂
