    Thank you so much for this video. Just hearing your calm, controlled voice has helped me! Our Nigerian Dwarf had triplets, and one is having extreme difficulty standing. We will work with her throughout the day to help her become stronger. Thank you, again, for your lovely reassurance.

    Thank you, thank you, thank you! We lost one of our triplets this morning and her sister hasn’t been very strong either and hasn’t stood up much. As I’ve held her up I’ve seen the problem with her legs and I was so worried. I’ve been standing her up and she’s getting better.

    My girl had quads yesterday and one of the girls is having this exact issues! She is the biggest of the four. Thankfully she is very spunky and i dont have to help her stand! Im glad to see it will go right after it strengthens

    I have to give you a HUGE thank you for your video!! I had a goat last night that had triplets. One was up and standing as normal, and the last two could not stand with the legs spladed out in the back. I've never experienced this before in the past few years of raising goats, and it freaked me out a bit. I quickly googled youtube, and your video popped right up! Here we are 24 hours later, and I've been doing what you suggested, and they are slowing getting strength in their legs. I'm expecting them to be fully mobile within 2-3 days. Again, THANK YOU!!!

      Oh I am so glad it was helpful! I was the same when I first experienced it, and I had to trawl goat forums to find out what to do, so I figured if I had the problem, others must too and a video would be helpful. Congrats on your babies

    Thanks! Your video reassured us that we’re doing the right thing with helping our wobbly triplet kids to stand & develop back leg strength. We supplemented mum with vitamin E & Selenium before & during her pregnancy so in our case definitely not due to selenium deficiency.

    I rescued a baby Nigerian goat that couldn’t stand up. I gave her selenium and bottle fed her. It took 3 weeks for her to stand up and she could only walk for a little bit before getting tired. I think she was premature as well. She’s 7 months old now and you would never know that she had such a hard start.

      Well done you! Sounds like she might have been prem eh. They are worth putting the work in to though aren't they, so sweet

      She’s my first goat that I have ever had. When she was born she didn’t have her bottom teeth so she was probably a premie. She still lives in my house 😂 I don’t know if she will ever be completely outside 😅 she’s very affectionate and sweet. I love her so much 🥰 they are definitely worth the time

    Thank you for the video. I had twin girls born this morning. Sapphire is walking, but Diamond is not. She can stand if someone helps her, but you can tell her hind legs are weak and if she tries to walk, she falls. Mama (Ruby) is acting like they don't exist, so I had to bottle feed them. The way she hops over them worries she may hurt them.

    Thank you for this! My last pregnant doe kidded today. It is a damp cool day here. When I saw she had kidded I rushed to where she was. There 3, all cold, only 1 was dried off but still very listless. I was expecting her to kid in 5 more days. My gut told me she was getting ready to kid, but I didn't listen to it. Managed to warm up 2, lost the third. Both surviving kids seem weak in their legs, the one may possibly have a slight deformity (?) but has a great sucking reflex. Managed to milk some colostrum from mom, wasn't easy (these are not dairy goats), and got equal portions into both kids. Hoping all they need is time. This is the first set of triplets born on my farm.

      @FantailValleyHomestead  ปีที่แล้ว

      congrats on your babies! One thing I have learned in life is ALWAYS listen to your gut, I always regret when I don't. Have you got them back with mama goat, or is she just not interested? It sounds like you have done everything else right, I am sorry for your loss, but 2/3 is better than zero which it probably would have been if you weren't there to help!

      @@FantailValleyHomestead I have the little boy back with his mom, she was VERY interested. I had to keep him in overnight, but he was walking on his own this morning, on a tiled floor. 👍
      The little girl, although very strong and determined may have a deformity. I am waiting to hear from a vet to see about having her x-rayed to determine if it is permanent or if it can be eventually worked out. I have a feeling she is going to end up a bottle baby if I don't have to have her put down.

    I make splints out of cardboard to give the joints stability and that they don't bend them in the wrong direction

  • @debc9184
    @debc9184 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you. I have little splints, 8 hours old. A twin from a new doe. Zorro stands great, but Splints doesn't stand at all. His back legs are very weak and bend the wrong way. Im going to try your advice on standing him. Unfortunately mama isn't feeding him, so he is being bottle fed. If he gets stronger I will put him back with mom. Thank you again!

    • @FantailValleyHomestead
      @FantailValleyHomestead  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Best of luck with him. I love his name, very cute. If you do put him back with mom just be aware she might actively reject him, so it is best to pen them up somewhere warm until she accepts him. Best of luck!

      I have triplets born early today. 2 are great. 1, completely splayed. Very very worried.

      @@karenromanik9506 You are very welcome! Keep at it, you will often find the smaller of multiples are the ones that struggle most. Given the other two are up and at it, I would be inclined to pen all 4 of them up so mama goat doesn't wander off with the other 2 leaving him behind. All the best with him, as long as he is feeding he will strengthen up.

    Thank you, this help quite a bit. Yesterday a first time ewe gave birth to twins. One (male) was not able to stand up using its hind legs. Day 2 now. Still hasn't stood up but is eating well from a bottle. Although I have noticed his front legs are not straight when standing up...they both go slightly forwards almost as if he is bowing. Hope you can help and hoping there is some hope!

      That is quite common, their joints will strengthen with time and stop bending weirdly, just keep helping him stand a few times a day. Best of luck with him

    • @FantailValleyHomestead

      oh, that must be a different cause. A selenium deficiency can cause it apparently, but I am not sure of the corrective dosing. Some illnesses can cause issues with balance/standing too. Have they managed to injure their back legs some how? In this situation I would personally ring a vet and talk it through with them.
