Why can't government put a policy in place, just like we have for green recycled stuff, a separate bin for PAGPAG-able foods, and other bins for all other trash? Yes in an ideal world we should not even have anything like pagpag, but the reality is quite different, poverty - extremes ones exist around the globe.

As a Chef here in Napa Valley region I have nothing but admiration to the tenacity and resilience of the Poorest of the poor Filipinos. Their way of survival without government’s assistance is remarkable. The recycling process and recooking at very high temperature kills all bacteria after all making it deliciously crispy good and sustainable. Nothing to be ashamed of. Chef M.
They shouldn't allow this, those guys who sells it are just taking advantage of those people. There are a lot more cheaper alternatives to get food in the Philippines, guys in the slums thinks its ok coz they are uneducated about it. The government should take action.
I always eat chicken down to the bare bone, not even the cartilage left. It's just out of respect for the animal that had to die to feed me. So, no pag pag from me, sorry🙁
Thank you for making this video. It’s heartbreaking. What’s more heartbreaking is that the people who make the laws are the ones who can afford to be worried about things like getting sick- it is survival for some of these people. If they had other options they would be doing them. Don’t take away their means of survival unless you’re going to replace it with something.
Most bacteria will die under fried oil cook. I don't think, its really bad as it seems. Moreover, its being hand pick, check properly, cleaned with water properly before seasoning and fried with oil. Anyway, these chicken thrown out are unable to sell out for the day by the restaurant, still new, thrown out and being dump dived out. Not really bad as it was persumed.
Did you see the broken nawed on bones they washed in the dirty laundry water? You think she washed her hands before she washed it? People do die from eating it, due to dehydration and indigestion , inflammation of the stomach lining etc. Do your research b4 making comments please.

"There's a law against 'pagpag'". Laws and rules in the PH are like "guidelines". Corrupt government won't care unless you get in their way. Genuinely brave of you to go there because PH slums can get pretty crazy, especially when they see foreigners (there's a persistent stigma that Caucassian people are wealthy). I'd be scared to even take out my phone in such a place, let alone use high-end equipment so out in the open.
I understand the circumstances my fellow Filipinos who resort to eating pagpag are in; still, this kind of situation is inhumane and in my opinion, should not exist. Filipinos are indeed resilient and resourceful but having these qualities do not mean that everyone has to just endure the cancer of poverty forever. Everyone deserves clean, proper food, regardless of how poor they are. Urban gardening and developing alternative types of food sustainability must be prioritized by the government and introduced to the people in these areas. My heart breaks for my fellow Filipinos having to eat pagpag to survive. Thank you for making this enlightening vlog.

In 1940-1960 in Asia the 2 most powerful countries are Japan 🇯🇵 and Philippines 🇵🇭. The slum like that in Vietnam 🇻🇳 yes before 2000! But nowadays, Vietnam 🇻🇳 is not really rich yet but we do have a house to live and decent foods (fresh foods) to eat. I agree with Andrew! And of course at that time I landed at Manila’s airport and Manila City were far more than Ho Chi Minh City at the time.
I just want to say to everyone here that the Philippines is not a poor country. Considering our tax rates, the Philippines should be part of the first-world country. It's just sad that corruption is so rampant here that almost nothing is returned to the people which ultimately results to these poor souls scavenging garbage for food.
i don't think should ever have to endure these conditions and eat garbage when everyday each house hold throws away so much food that couldn't be consumed. i think its up to each of us to do the right thing and give food away food each week we know we won't eat. By making it a routine to give away unwanted food we can give people better alternatives to eating garbage.

That’s disgusting. I lived in the Philippines for 15 months and hated everything about it. However, seeing people eat garbage is unpleasant and I don’t wish that on anyone.
Thank you for showing this kind of situation that is actually happen to destitute area of the Philippines, and trying the actual pagpag was awesome and brave.
If dehydration is the biggest risk, I am for leaving these people alone. Their immune systems have adapted to pagpag and until the world solves world hunger, THIS IS their way of life. I support them thriving by any means necessary. They aren't breaking any laws. Praying for my brothers and sisters across the waters 🫶🏾🙏🏽💜
lol they don’t need to be left alone, their government needs to be taking better care of its people
I remember my teacher used this as a topic. She even showed the video.
Yeah, that is really true, Just wash and boil after that can be used for various way of dishes.
World is really unfair.
Why can't government put a policy in place, just like we have for green recycled stuff, a separate bin for PAGPAG-able foods, and other bins for all other trash? Yes in an ideal world we should not even have anything like pagpag, but the reality is quite different, poverty - extremes ones exist around the globe.
People from other countries are just exploiting our country for contents. We appreciate that content creators and vloggers choose Ph because it adds new market for our tourism but try to create new contents. This was featured so many times.
I shot four episodes in Ph. I don’t think the content I covered is much documented at all. Pagpag may be the exception.
Its the only way they make money and due to Poverty they cant afford food
what are the cheaper alternatives
This is so sad. Thanks for sharing. Can't they just share food that is going to be thrown away? This way the people are not forced to do this.
Love the content my bro keep it up ❤
Awesome video
I always eat chicken down to the bare bone, not even the cartilage left. It's just out of respect for the animal that had to die to feed me.
So, no pag pag from me, sorry🙁
Health and safety!
Jesus!! -Andrew you deserve some kind of award for this documentary of awareness.
Dude she went to the shop and bought JB for you. That was not pagpag.
Human Nature to survive, you gotta do what you gotta do to make sure that happens.
Cat doesn't have a chance 😢
This reminds me of the movie, *Platform.* God bless these people and their will to survive, live, exist to the best of their ability.
Is this the same lady from the Pag Pag documentary made years ago?
But she is wearing a classy Watch despite collecting the Gabbage
It's fake branded watch. You can buy a "Rolex" watch for 100 pesos ($2).
You're brave for testing it out 💪
6:45 Dude, kudos to you for trying it for the experience. I don’t think I could ever do that for the sake of experience as it will stick into my mind where they came from and will always imagine at what horrible state they were at when collected. And I don’t think I can stomach it. Oh boy.
That piece u ate looks freshly bought 🤔 Pagpag barely has any meat on the bones.
They hooked me up with the "best" bit. Trust me, there was nothing fresh about it.
@@Andrew_Fraser it look juicy to me...are sure u didnt bought a fresh one from fast food?😆
Good episode Andrew. Sonny didn’t find Pagpag!!😂
Haha he will get to it soon i’m sure
"There's a law against 'pagpag'". Laws and rules in the PH are like "guidelines". Corrupt government won't care unless you get in their way.
Genuinely brave of you to go there because PH slums can get pretty crazy, especially when they see foreigners (there's a persistent stigma that Caucassian people are wealthy). I'd be scared to even take out my phone in such a place, let alone use high-end equipment so out in the open.
I think For them eat pagpag or die of hunger.
Your brave taking a bite of pagpag
What a lovely and humble lady. Makes me sad to see her living in such conditions 😢
Oh my God! I did not know that you have your own channel Andrew. Thank you for visiting our country the Philippines. Ask Sonny to join you here gain next time.
I learn something new daily. Great video. I’ve never heard of this. Very sad.
Only in Manila, Recycling food from trash are extremely viral. But in Visayas, Clean fresh food all the people eats from the Mountains, forests and farms. People from provinces don't eat recycled junk food from trash, they are all fresh and clean.
I’ve been living in palawan Philippines for 6 months in summer 1991 and it’s hot more than mine Đà Nẵng city. And of course at that time I landed at Manila’s airport and Manila City were far more than Ho Chi Minh City at the time.
This is heartbreaking and humbling.
Hi, how did you contact them? I’m truly concerned and would like to talk with these people to find a better way for their food. Hope you can respond.
I just went there
@@Andrew_Fraser thank you. I hope they will also be welcoming if I have a chance to visit. If you have any tips, it’s truly appreciated.
kudos to this amazing documentary vlog
Very interesting.......despite all u see....the people are kind and proud.....
I just want to say to everyone here that the Philippines is not a poor country. Considering our tax rates, the Philippines should be part of the first-world country. It's just sad that corruption is so rampant here that almost nothing is returned to the people which ultimately results to these poor souls scavenging garbage for food.
yes, the country Filipino, For the beauty pageant is really, crazy... 1 billion every years..
This thumbnail is mind blowing
I believe her when she says no one gets sick. This type of food builds a strong immune system😊
Respect, that you actually ate pagpag. I know saying this makes me sound snobbish.
Can't believe you ate it.
i don't think should ever have to endure these conditions and eat garbage when everyday each house hold throws away so much food that couldn't be consumed. i think its up to each of us to do the right thing and give food away food each week we know we won't eat. By making it a routine to give away unwanted food we can give people better alternatives to eating garbage.
When I go Manila, I also buy a Burger, take one bite of it and throw it into the Bin for the poor to eat. Sometimes I just throw a half eaten Fried Chicken at a bunch of children and watch in fascination as they fight for it. Its nice to be Charitable. 🙂
Wth 😂
Seems to be a dry sense of humor funny & wrong
Something tells me the truth is he buys a meal for the kids to share
Gooi dan op z'n minst een burger zonder hap 😢
@@allviolet No I don't. Its very common to do it. Tourists do it all the time here in Manila. Just throw a half eaten food at the kids living in the slum and watch them fight for it. Its like feeding pigeons. 🙂
When I was in Cebu I took a peddle tricycle for about 20 minutes. Maybe 3 miles. The man who was driving was dripping sweat the whole time. During the trip my girlfriend said he only wants 20p. That is less than $0.50. I gave him 1000p. I wondered how he can survive on only 20p for that kind of time and effort. After all, the food my gf and I were eating costs 1500p for one meal. Now I know.
Food that is really not worth eating...junk food makes me afraid to go to that country🤢
I pray All living things should live peacefully and healthier 🙏
DON'T JUDGE!!!. . . they are trying their BEST. . . PROVIDING AN HONEST LIVING for what they can afford . . FILIPINOS RESOURCEFULNESS TO SURVIVE IS COMMENDABLE, . .
Thanks for showing us this sad reality 😢
Marco's, Aqinos, Duterte families are chosen every year but NOTHING HAS CHANGED FOR THE PEOPLE OF THE PI. Except raises for Government workers.
Actually pagpag is one one problem solving for wasting food by recook and re use it. I'll try to see the other angle of this kind of food.
If anything is open I think restaurants vendor will not throwing away leftover food to garbage and choosing to put it aside so anyone can take it and use it as pagpag
This is terrible. As humans, we shouldn’t allow this to happen.
