    2:50 The stream was muted due to the "song" that was played over speakers in the conference room. Uncertain if the song was actually copyrighted material (in which case there's a question of whether they paid royalties). If it wasn't, then it is definitely strange that they'd mute the stream.

    Revenue doesn't mean a company has money, it's a really bad metric especially if it's the only one used. Imho, profit or dividend payouts, or executive salaries are far more useful than quoting revenue.

    This stuff is wild. Did you see the Cease and Desist WP Engine sent Matt? They allege he threatened them before the conference, trying to blackmail them for large amounts of money to stop him "going nuclear" on them lmao

      Wow that explains everything. He didnt mention that in his dribble

      Yeah checkout the PDF with the text messages screenshots from Matt. They look like they were sent by a wannabe mafia bro. He also said “I will proceed with the scorched earth nuclear approach to WPE.” Bro reads like a villain

      @@richardparker123 Lmao exactly. And did you guys see Automattic counter cease-and-desisted them? Alleging that WP engine was violating their trademark and they changed the trademark guidelines for WordPress recently to ask people not to use "WP" when previously it said you could use it freely.

      Smoke and mirrors. It's clear this is over WP Engine taking the piss over use of the WP trademark, and WP Engine restricting revisions was the last straw for Matt. They are butthurt and the C&D letter is a desperate move unlikely to succeed. They are just throwing mud. Matt is right. Private equity has destroyed other industries and it's coming for us. And inevitably they are fighting back.

    WPEngine has made my life so much easier. I never thought I'd be a fanboy of a hosting service, but I love them. They make hosting a Wordpress website so much easier which contributes incalculable value to the community. I hope Mullenweg gets off whatever sauce he's on.

      WPEngine is freeloader and they spend millions of influencer marketing instead. Terrible service not the same it used to be many years before.

    Great job on the links, Luka! I wish every TH-camr put that much effort into making their videos a one-stop resource!

    WP Engine is built on the value created by WordPress community, makes billions and doesn't give back a penny which is morally incorrect.
    WP Engine is a cancer for WordPress remaining free and open-source.

    • @marcioandreyoliveira
      @marcioandreyoliveira 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I see your point but morality has nothing to do with legality.
      There's no clause in the WP license that obligate users to contribute if they make some money.
      Also, WPE doesn't force anyone to use their services. If they are making a lot of money it means it is providing a valuable service for it's customers.
      Regards.

    Mullenweg's mental stability has been questionable for years now, and seems to be slowly deteriorating.

    • @CaptainFutura
      @CaptainFutura 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don't know what your basing this on. Just watched his presentation and i see no sign of mental decline, moreover i can see exactly where he's coming from.
      There's only one reason WP Engine has disabled revsions and that's to save money and give their customers less. They are also investing less in infrastructure.
      No I'm not a Matt fanboy, far from it in fact, but I support his actions.

    • @warmwestwind
      @warmwestwind 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I suppose I'm biased against him because of his bizarre vendetta against a random Tumblr user back in February, but to me it seems way shadier to use Matt's unique influence over the ecosystem to target a specific company for shaming, than to simply... build a business on open-source according to the terms of its license.

    • @CaptainFutura
      @CaptainFutura 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@warmwestwind what else can he do when he sees open source as under threat from PE? Sit and watch everything he built slowly fall apart?

      He's not bravely standing up to private equity, he's riling strangers up to go after a competitor.

    To be fair. Wordpress is a bit of a monstrosity. I’ve used it for years and hated it. Got a dev background so I’ve started using wagtail cms which is built on top of Django. Bit of a learning curve but Enjoying the journey so far.
