In this video we take you on a whistle stop tour of the build from START TO FINISH of a high quality Hip to Gable Loft Conversion that was completed in just 18 days. The build took a long time to plan and we had to carefully organise the timing of the materials and tradesmen but it shows what can be done if you plan ahead.
This video contains lots of TIPS, IDEAS and CONCEPTS that we hope will be useful when you are planning your loft.

The video has provided a good insight into a loft conversation, all the details were very well explained. The only thing that I found a bit strange is the three led lights that were installed in thunder on the top shelf in the shower. Good job by these guys, the finished work looks good. 👍

Completed my Hip To Gable with Cabrio Balcony, copper pipes, upgraded water cylinder loft tank with Stuart Truner pump, whirlpool bath, finished the internal DIY. £42K . Buy your own materials, use non-VAT tradesmen for Shell, plumbing and electrics.
What a lash up, here's one of the the reasons I got out of the building industry trying to compete with this crap.

Some shoddy work there! Corner detail to the GRP roof 32:07.
Gaps around insulation between rafters 33:45.
Oak door split where lock was drilled 50:16.
Velux window reveals not splayed correctly 41:01.
Minor comment on the wall & floor tiling - I would advise to spread adhesive on the wall as well as back-buttering the tiles to prevent delamination in the long run nevertheless good job overall

18 days is amazing, is it in the Guinness Book of Records?! I have taken copious notes of this guy's numerous tips and tricks to ensure that our loft conversion looks as fantastic as this one. The original goal we set ourselves was to complete everything within 45 days but the guys onsite got so excited by the challenge that they ramped it up and we hit everything done super quick. The real learning point though is that it is really important to plan everything in advance and make sure your design is right. Hi, my timber joists in the loft are higher than the floor, what possibly could i do to reduce the size and if i want to add a dormer do i need to replace them or not. many thanks
I did a hip to gable with my brother and it took us 5 months. Two men working full time. 18 days is biblically fast.

ooh nice! we are going similar route after inspiration from you. We have a little gable roof over the bay window in the front bedroom, which I'm trying to get the builders to open up but can't convince - help?
A good watch! What size are the joists and the UC? Nice that they slide in so easily, I've been sped'd 203 x 203 52 with 195 joists so by my calculations, the joists would run 11.5mm proud if I adopted same method. I;m thinking i could then glue/ screw ply direct to the beam to level off. Seems easier than hanging all those joists and the additional cost of the timber blocking?

I noticed that you haven't got a counter Battern (airflow) on the dormer walls. Is this not needed for tile hanging?

Nice job, but I would look at getting a new lead flasher the chimney flashing looked well let's say a bit rough shame as the new tiles and new flat roof looked good

The materials a few grand then it’s the labour charge where you get done over , if only builders realised that the money they taking from clients hasn’t just been made it’s took years to save up that hard earned cash only for it to be taken by “builders “ for a few weeks graft , if it was my way I’d get the materials myself then get a builder to fit the materials in a give a lead time of when it gets done

plus the builders have trade accounts, so they get materials at discount but charge you full price.
Would you advise putting up coving in the loft conversion? Because I see on this video, coving wasn't installed
Hi. Thanks for watching. It's really personal preference. We didn't install on this occasion as we wanted a more modern finish.

Hi ,Have you ever done or heard of a loft conversion on a 2.5 story townhouse?. i've also measured and the floor to ridge is 2.4m so after insulation should hopefully be the 2.1m limit?. cheers
Hi AnTan. Thanks for watching. Anything is possible in terms of building the structure. The question you need to answer is can you make the space work for your needs and will you at least break even in terms of the cost versus the increase in value. I have seen lofts with 1.9m internal head height - not luxurious but it can work for kids bedrooms or office space etc. 👍

Fantastic turnaround and very good construction team. At 47:10 a missed opportunity to have a studded out vanity and toilet because you already had to stud out the shower wall, might as well have studded out the area underneath the mirror and fit your vanity in with a wall hung toilet + concealed cistern -- would have added that extra touch of luxury for marginal cost. Also at 52:56 a common mistake, the gold side is supposed to face the floor because like you said, it's a moisture barrier.

Interesting for example 1 day insulating and 1 day plaster boarding must be a very small loft and then 2nd fix day after plastering mmm 🤔 not too sure about this

Hi. How much would it cost to have a loft conversion in north London? I’m not allowed to have a flat roof and also not allowed to make any changes to the existing roof.
Hi. Thanks for watching. It's tricky to give you an accurate estimate as it doesn't sound like a standard loft conversion. If you are not able to alter the existing roof then you will only be able to create a limited loft conversion. If you go onto MyBuilder.com you can upload more information and ask for quotes (it is free to do that) and that will give you a better indication.
It's not really a conversion it's more like an extension because basically everything is a new build. I would have like to see you keep those old hardwood timbers, but I guess you got your result in the end.
Why is he saying the the steel sits on the external wall when it normally sits on the inside cavity wall and not the external wall ( can someone advise please)
@44.27 No waterproofing in the bathroom and plasterboard in the shower area!
Hi Alan. Thanks for watching. We used water resistant cement tiling board in the shower area and moisture board for the rest of the room.

Interesting video but feel as though the level of finish has been compromised a little. I know its personal choice but I'd have used a grey silicon to match the tile colour for the corners and reveals in the en-suite. Also the quality of the joinery work lets the build down eg. the mitres on the architrave and mitred internal skirtings rather than being scribed. The cut outs for the latch and locks is a bit shabby too. Nit picking I know but the finishing details make or break a job

Hi Nasreen. The mirror doors on the wardrobe were tailor made by a specialist company. The two panels were 2000mm high x 500mm wide and placed on sliding runners. 👍

@@JoeBlogs thanks, considering a conversion but only to keep existing roof shape with velux windows. Preser to use timber and steel only for structural strength. It will be for the loft of my bungalow. Reckon will be £20-£30k.

You've lost so much space with all these studwalls and insulation, making the room much smaller. I know it's partly because of building reg, but you probably gone much further.
When you use high performance insulation like dense foam sheets, they offer much better R value

Insulation. 33 minutes. That is why I don't want people like this anywhere near my loft conversion. You can just see that guy with his mobile updating his status or that disinterested guy cutting rafters being asked to cut the celotex and doing a job like that. If there is a gap what is the effing point?
Sorry mate to many open joints,not enough noggins and ungraded timber,basically not enough experience within your guys.
I'm 35 years in the trade and that was exactly my thoughts. Amazing the quality of work you see before it's all covered up. Finishings are a mess, can't believe he zoomed in on some of that stuff. 😳
