Why it’s important to have recall around dogs on lead.

  • Every dog has a right to a walk and not be banished to early morning or late at night because they are reactive.
I walk reactive dogs and I take steps to make sure we keep our distance from triggers. But when a dog who is off lead rushes up this is no good for my reactive dogs.
UK law states that you must be in control of your dog. Which translates to - your dog must listen to you and have recall. If not your dog can be deemed as dangerously out of control, especially if it puts a person in fear of being bitten or actually bitten.
If your dog is off lead then doggy etiquette stated your dog does not approach a dog on a lead unless the owner says it ok.
If your dog is off lead and someone is waking towards you with a dog on a lead, doggy etiquette states you should put your dog on a lead until you have passed.
If we all adhered to the above then dogs lives would be less stressful as well as our own.

I have a question? I have a beagle he doesn’t have any recall~ we take him and his doggy friend to a local field where loads of other local dogs go which he plays really well with, there’s this one lady who walks her dogs in the field on leads, kilo has ran over to say hello they growl then he leaves them alone~ is this the same scenario? I would never let him off lead anywhere else. I always wonder that if her dogs are aggressive or fearful then coming to a dog field with dogs of lease isn’t the best idea~ but your video has made me think~ I am in the wrong for letting him off lease with minimal recall
