This brings back so many memories. We went to Germany (from Austria) when l was three and left when l was six. We were billeted in a tiny farm town. On Christmas day l was locked out of our house and hung out with a girl named Lore. Just before dinner we were allowed into our houses. It was magic. We were poor but there was a tall tree covered in hanging candies wrapped in pink and silver, along with little glass bulbs, apples and tiny cookies in bags, plus real, flickering candles. My dad had built a dollhouse and it was furnished with tiny plastic furniture sent by my sister who worked as an au pair in Canada. It was, in my opinion, the most magical Christmas ever.
It's those memories that are so special! Thank you so much for sharing it Heidi. I remember so well when we were children my parents used to decorate and we weren't allowed into the living room and then at night they said that the Christkind was there to decorate the tree and put our presents below it. Simply pure magic.

My father would take me for a walk after dinner on Christmas Eve. Imagine my delight when we returned. Tree was all decorated with candy and cookies, nothing fancy. One present under the tree! Short nap and then it was off to midnight mass. MEMORIES 🥰! Consumerism has taken the joy and meaning out of Christmas 😢

What a beautiful, whimsical, magical place!!!! There is nothing as Christmassy as Christmas in Germany! My best and most treasured childhood memories are of the wonderful times spent in the Black Forest and the Baden Baden market at Christmas.

I get access to tons of German food thanks to the European Market in Huntsville, and can shop at the German/Bavarian gift shops in Cullman. The shop/museum you showed us is so special! When I was a flight attendant I loved going to Germany at Christmas. Thank you for this delightful video. We are celebrating Thanksgiving tomorrow here in the US. The Pilgrims that landed at Plymouth Rock dedicated what would become America to God and gave thanks to Him along with the Indians that greeted them and introduced Maze ( what we know as corn) so we give thanks for you both this fall 🍁🥰🍁✝️❤️
I love the Christmas decorations so much more as an adult than when I was a child as then all it was about was the 🎁 - what had Santa put in my sack? But now I really love and appreciate the beautiful and colourful decorations and lights.. what a fanciful town I could do Christmas all year if I could.. their is always a wonderful atmosphere in the air and people are so much kinder to each other. I have almost purchased all my presents for my family and friends (80 percent l bought locally) and now I look forward to our family Christmas which will be bitter sweet as my much beloved father is terminally ill😢.. but thankyou for Christmas holiday in Germany ❤

I so enjoyed this video. I’m from a German ancestry here in America though I’ve always wanted to go to Germany for Christmas. My sons grandma is from Frankford, but she moved to a different part of Germany at this time. I’m very familiar with the smokers in the wind Charlies, I live in Texas where it’s very hot and we don’t have much of a winner in my park where I live so the AC turns, sometimes the wind turbine. 😆😀 I enjoy your videos that you showcase Germany and England and I love the music y’all put together for it to I adore the both of you think you’re wonderful married couple wish more people were like you and your husband 🥰

I was there years ago and still have ornaments from the Kathe Wohlfahrt shop! My grandmother was born in Germany and her family immigrated to the US when she was young. We still carry German traditions all these years later! Merry Christmas!

This brings me bring back to my childhood growing up in Cincinnati Ohio during the 1970s. Cincinnati had a lot of german influence due in part to german immigration. I saw lots of similar Christmas decoration when I was a child and I love it.

I visited this glorious town with my family in 2015. Every moment was magical. The architecture, streetscapes, charming shops, gardens, views from the tower and town walls and surrounding countryside offers so so much to those into fairytales
I loved that place, wow those attic eyebrow windows, my smoker and some ornaments purchased at Kathe Wohlfahrt in 1985, thanks for the memory. I am lucky enough to have some of the glass and crimped wire ornaments that I inherited and some old German mercury glass baubles that I collected, thanks for the Christnas tour.

I love the German Christmas traditions, decorations, food and bakery items. The Gluehwein or Feuerzangenbowle, is a tradition at my house. I spice it myself and make my own Zuckerhut too. I also make gebrannte Mandeln at home. In my opinion, they do Christmas best. So many traditions started there, that have been adopted all over the world. My favorite are the old antique ornaments, that were behind glass. The old mercury glass ornaments, with spun angel hair, and exquisite details. Even the tree stands and candle holders were gorgeous! I love the history behind the decorated Christmas trees, where the different guilds way back when, would decorate the trees with home made goodies, edibles and paper decorations for their apprentices, and their own children.
@@KirstenJoerg They are easy to make at home. You must use a non-stick pan to prepare them. I use a bit more cinnamon, than this lady does. Be super careful while making these, because the caramelized sugar, gets super hot. Most people take the almonds out too soon. What a treat to me in the Christmas Spirit! Thank you so much for sharing. My husbands family came from Frieburg and they settled here in Pennsylvania and named their town Fryburg. They were primarily farmers and when they cleared their land , they saved the stones and built a magnificent church.

What a magical town! We visited a Kathe Wohlfahrt shop in another German city several years ago & just loved it! I now wish it had been the one with the wonderful museum. I just adore antique Christmas things!
When I was a flight attendant I loved going to Germany at Christmas. Thank you for this delightful video. We are celebrating Thanksgiving tomorrow here in the US. The Pilgrims that landed at Plymouth Rock dedicated what would become America to God and gave thanks to Him along with the Indians that greeted them and introduced Maze ( what we know as corn) so we give thanks for you both this fall 🍁🥰🍁✝️❤️

I love the Christmas decorations so much more as an adult than when I was a child as then all it was about was the 🎁 - what had Santa put in my sack? But now I really love and appreciate the beautiful and colourful decorations and lights.. what a fanciful town I could do Christmas all year if I could.. their is always a wonderful atmosphere in the air and people are so much kinder to each other. I have almost purchased all my presents for my family and friends (80 percent l bought locally) and now I look forward to our family Christmas which will be bitter sweet as my much beloved father is terminally ill😢.. but thankyou for Christmas holiday in Germany ❤

I so enjoyed this video. I’m from a German ancestry here in America though I’ve always wanted to go to Germany for Christmas. My sons grandma is from Frankford, but she moved to a different part of Germany at this time. I’m very familiar with the smokers in the wind Charlies, I live in Texas where it’s very hot and we don’t have much of a winner in my park where I live so the AC turns, sometimes the wind turbine. 😆😀

I was there years ago and still have ornaments from the Kathe Wohlfahrt shop! My grandmother was born in Germany and her family immigrated to the US when she was young. We still carry German traditions all these years later! Merry Christmas!

This brings me bring back to my childhood growing up in Cincinnati Ohio during the 1970s. Cincinnati had a lot of german influence due in part to german immigration. I saw lots of similar Christmas decoration when I was a child and I love it.
Another enchanting video, so so special watching Kirsten and Joerg back in Germany. I just rewatched their Christmas video from last year when they decorated their beautiful home.

Obwohl ich Rothenburg gut kenne hat mir das Video sehr viel Freude gemacht. So viele schöne Details die man oft übersieht. Ich besuche das Weihnachtsdorf meist im Hochsommer mit meiner Enkelin - ist so wunderbar surreal. Vielen Dank für all ihre Videos, informativ und auch sehr lehrreich auf eine unnachahmliche charmante und liebevolle Art und Weise. I visited this glorious town with my family in 2015. Every moment was magical. The architecture, streetscapes, charming shops, gardens, views from the tower and town walls and surrounding countryside offers so so much to those into fairytales

I loved that place, wow those attic eyebrow windows, my smoker and some ornaments purchased at Kathe Wohlfahrt in 1985, thanks for the memory. I am lucky enough to have some of the glass and crimped wire ornaments that I inherited and some old German mercury glass baubles that I collected, thanks for the Christnas tour.

What beautiful tree stands!
I love the German Christmas traditions, decorations, food and bakery items. The Gluehwein or Feuerzangenbowle, is a tradition at my house. I spice it myself and make my own Zuckerhut too. I also make gebrannte Mandeln at home. In my opinion, they do Christmas best. So many traditions started there, that have been adopted all over the world. My favorite are the old antique ornaments, that were behind glass. The old mercury glass ornaments, with spun angel hair, and exquisite details. Even the tree stands and candle holders were gorgeous! I love the history behind the decorated Christmas trees, where the different guilds way back when, would decorate the trees with home made goodies, edibles and paper decorations for their apprentices, and their own children.
I LOVE Gebrannte Mandeln so much and always miss them here. Yummy!
@@KirstenJoerg They are easy to make at home. You must use a non-stick pan to prepare them. I use a bit more cinnamon, than this lady does. Be super careful while making these, because the caramelized sugar, gets super hot. Most people take the almonds out too soon. Wait until the mixture has thickened and the almonds start to look shiny and glazed by the mixture, before taking them out to cool down. Enjoy!
