As for Finland - the Soviets offered them an exchange of territories to protect themselves from the coming war - the Finns refused. Thus, the Soviets had no other options but to use force. This discrepancy is precisely why a war between the two powers is out of question. It would end in Armageddon and no one wins. Russia is not stupid, it won't surrender just for ecological or humanist reasons. That being said, those numbers are theoretical to say the least. There is strength on paper and strength on the field. And most importantly, there is military industrial production. NATO may seems mighty on paper, but seems to have difficulties to provide Ukraine with simple artillery shells and basic ammunitions. NATO has a great military budget, but has to pay three time the price for each tank, planes, missiles because it has to buy them to private capitalist companies. Russia military complex is state owned, it won't have to pay profit margins. Reality is that no European power has prepared itself for a long term war. The logistic and the industrial bases are not there. Europe lacks basic commodities while Russia has them all, the USA would be too far from the frontline to compensate, while Global South would revolt and cease deliver the commodities needed for Europe to sustain a war. And if by any luck, nukes are not used and Russia is really close to defeat, I bet China would intervene, annihilating the only the true advantages still has, that is the NAVY and Airforce. That some of our leaders are envisioning this possibility is beyond me. my 5 cents
I'm not trying to saber rattle for the use of Nuclear weapons, or to diminish the gravity of Nukes, but Nukes do come in different sizes with different ways to detonate. It would still be scary to contemplate, but this is why different styles of Nuclear Weapons were shown. They are not all Hiroshima leveling style- big boys. The tactical nukes would be, well tactical. (still not a pleasant thought)

All of which totally ignores the fact that the vast bulk of NATO's firepower exists in the USA and is not likely to be deployed in Europe as much of it will need to be held in reserve against the high probability of opportunistic conflict with China in the event of war in Europe. This discrepancy is precisely why a war between the two powers is out of question. It would end in Armageddon and no one wins. Russia is not stupid, it won't surrender just for ecological or humanist reasons. That being said, those numbers are theoretical to say the least. There is strength on paper and strength on the field. And most importantly, there is military industrial production. NATO may seems mighty on paper, but seems to have difficulties to provide Ukraine with simple artillery shells and basic ammunitions. NATO has a great military budget, but has to pay three time the price for each tank, planes, missiles because it has to buy them to private capitalist companies. Russia military complex is state owned, it won't have to pay profit margins. Reality is that no European power has prepared itself for a long term war. The logistic and the industrial bases are not there. Europe lacks basic commodities while Russia has them all, the USA would be too far from the frontline to compensate, while Global South would revolt and cease deliver the commodities needed for Europe to sustain a war. And if by any luck, nukes are not used and Russia is really close to defeat, I bet China would intervene, annihilating the only the true advantages still has, that is the NAVY and Airforce. That some of our leaders are envisioning this possibility is beyond me. my 5 cents

All of which totally ignores the fact that the vast bulk of NATO's firepower exists in the USA and is not likely to be deployed in Europe as much of it will need to be held in reserve against the high probability of opportunistic conflict with China in the event of war in Europe.
This completely changes the complexion of the whole scenario and NATO's chances of outmatching Russia in the field would be greatly reduced.
