    Jigoro Kano was way ahead of the time when he invented Judo!
    He saw judo as something that is a defensive style en that people can train it for a long time without getting permanent injuries ( Japanese Jiu jitsu ) .
    The JJJ techniques are still preserved in the kata's( Japanese Jiu Jitsu) but only trained when you reached a high level black belt! 🥋⛩🙏

    we can even complete, associate defense techniques shorinji kempo (or aikido it's the same), taijutsu also to deepen,,,, me my martial experience was associated (judo / jujitsu / karate & shin shi tai kempo ( or more, simple the European kempo of master SOKE CEULIMAN)) fairly complete association allowing associated work on the ground, standing, with weapon, body to body, vital points, keys and dislocations. and I study very very closely the american kempo of ED PARKER.

    This is very interesting the moves are mostly the same as what was taught in my school but many of the angles aren't the same. Also the second and third Jo techniques are done with the bo at my school but essentially the same move. Also during the knife moves Tori didn't always take the knife away from Uke at the finish. That's not kata.

    • @mitsutomoe6911

      That’s Kata norm. Your school has deviated from the standard . Look at www.ijf.org/ijf/documents/15 for official Kata textbook, revised recently.

    • @adobo1976
      @adobo1976 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mitsutomoe6911 I'm not sure about that. I'd have to talk to our head teachers. You have to remember this is the IJF. Judo is a sport that deviated from Nagai Ryu Ju Jitsu. Ju Jitsu is self defense based. Our current head teachers are 4th generation from Kano. It's possible the IJF or even Kano made changes to the Kata for it to fit into Judo.

    Thanks for uploading this video. There is a lot of useful information. However it surprises me that in NANAME TSUKI the kansetsu used in the end of the technique is called UDE HISHIGI TE GATAME when it is obvious that it is UDE HISHIGI UDE GATAME .
    This a KODOKAN production and they should be more careful with the names of the techniques.

      Yep its very difficult to do any standing lock on a violent attacker,possibly not effective at all.

  • @jonathanjeffer
    @jonathanjeffer 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    The seemingly official version has tori walking away from uke to apply the various straight arm locks. I learned these with a spiraling action caused by Tori's tai sabaki or turn. I think that this is more similar to the waza as learned by Kenji Tomiki and in general its faster, takes less space and is more effective. I guess that anything can be a variation of anything else, and the drawing uke off his feet would be useful in some cases, but I really think that this is less effective than the variations i was schooled in. They also conform better to the movement culture of randori, which I think is an important point.

    • @nicocontreras5366

      I was taught walking away diagonal.

      Who gets to decide what is official? My teachers are 4 generations removed from Kano. Each of those generations had sensei's who obtained a high enough level that allowed them to modify or write Kata as they saw fit. I've seen teachers make changes to katas. As I understand it Goshin Jitsu is hundreds of years old. We would have to get a video of the original creator to find out an "official" version. Even then I'm sure it would be critiqued on each move as to what was most practical.

    I must say...In 2022 the combat dynamics have evolved in a way that makes this techniques look stupid. They are mostly based around attack that will never happen...as a judoka that trains judo looking at it from the self-defence perspective I can't understand how can people still teach this.

    • @MagDiSante
      @MagDiSante ปีที่แล้ว +6

      i guess this kata is studied mainly by aged judokas ... Young ones are focused in sport competitions :-( Martial arts are becoming "simple sports" and the same is happening with Karate, unfortunately ... Anyway, the goal of this Kata is probably to keep style and techniques ... It appears obvious that it's uneffective in real self-defence ... I don't know Judo, being a practitioner of traditional Karate i can say that Karate katas have all the PRINCIPLES and "concepts" that are useful for real figthing ... Of course they seem and they are uneffective if You apply their techniques and moves as they are presented on katas BUT if You understand their meaning (and if You master them, of course !) You can ADAPT those principles and concepts in a real fight. Probably the same happens with this Kata of Judo BUT can't speak about something i don't know :-) !

    • @markdaniels4178
      @markdaniels4178 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well! It's a part of the curriculum and you should learn katas, this is the problem with you Americans and western thought, you're too arrogant, lack patience and comprehension. Jagaro kano wrote the curriculum and it's your job to follow it . If you want to break away learn jiu-jitsu or form your own like the gracies did because everything in judo serves a purpose

    • @uncle_martin1131
      @uncle_martin1131 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@markdaniels4178 I mean Jigoro Kano, made this curriculum how many decades ago? The way people fight has evolved, what was good x years ago may not be good anymore. This is why even college curricula change. U adapt the curriculum to the time and the needs of the time. It's not a matter of being impatient, this techniques start from attacks that are complete bullshit.

    • @markdaniels4178
      @markdaniels4178 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Lol! Judo is not out of date in anything, it is where it's suppose to be and it's not up to American culture to decide anything on judo. Judo is an Olympic sport , a complete system and a way of life. Judo is more evolved than Brazilian jujitsu and still one of the best fighting systems in the world.
      Judo is practiced in 196 nations in thr world and still going strong. I'm a practitioner of Brazilian jiu-jitsu and judo and I'll tell you this, Judo is the foundation of many fighting systems and always will be.
      Your job as a Judoka is to learn thr katas and expand , judo is about self development and not about cage fighting like the ufc. You Americans are completely blinded by this whole ufc and mma nonsense and that's terrible.

    • @uncle_martin1131

      @@markdaniels4178 we are talking self defence here, not sport fighting. Judo is a martial art and by definition martial arts are self defence systems first, a sport later. Gyoshin jutsu katas are factual bullshit, they shouldn't be taught because they are fake and useless for SELF DEFENCE which this katas are nade for
