Russia has been trying to negotiate and find an agreement with the West for many years; in 1990 "not one inch eastward NATO", 2007, 2008, 2014, Minsk 1, Minsk 2, December 2021, April 2022. The Collective West leaders behaved like shysters. They are negotiation-incapable. Russia had no other choice.
Funny how none of that ever makes it into our textbooks.

I enjoy your lectures Nima. Here's my take on your gentleman's position as well. The West is desperate and like any empire that is collapsing or crumbling under its own weight they will fight to the last man to protect what they think is theirs. Other empires have done the same thing there's no reason to believe the US and the Western hegemony will not try to maintain control as long as they can. There collapse will be catastrophic and quite ugly unfortunately you're not dealing with people that will simply go silently into that good night.

Sometimes military calculus is built around economic benefits or ramifications. Israel wants to expand the conflict to Lebanon to settle the south, and grow their "maritime line" so they can do offshore drilling since Lebanon sits in one of the greatest offshore crude reserves in the area. More territory = more money = and they want to revive the India > Israel > EU train, the west's answer to the Silk Road initiative. Remember, Israel is the only UN member without defined borders, and constant colonization since its creation is the reason why.
