Attaching to the thick cloth is a little shed but here’s how I did it: 1. Undo the little rubber and separate it from the meta loop. Pull down on the rubber part 2. Place the cloth of your shirt in between the rubber flap and the metal loop. See which orientation works best. 3. Push the thick bead shape of the rubber part through the metal loop and you’ll need to pull to get it in. It might take a while. 4. When you put them in your socks, it is considerably easier than the thicker cloth. It’s the same process as above, just don’t put them on backwards or it’ll scrape up on your leg. Seeing as this was posted a year ago, this is mostly for anybody else with the question. I hope this helps new people, and I hope you figured it out

Shirt stays? We call them shirt garders. Or something along those lines
I think garters are the actual name but stays is just commonly used
