I spent years playing it 14 hours a day and loved it so much. A very very very very hardcore accurate and detailed sim, and all that in 2000! People mention deck crew. They have no idea how its HUD, buttons, and all those utilities were accurate and detailed. I love it so much more than DCS. I wish they made it open source so people created mods for it.
Yeah the deck crew is fun bonus with people running around with the wands, and random stuff flying around you. Janes FA18 was good too but I couldn't get it to work on WIn 7. I got this working using DOSbox and haven't had issues..
I actually worked on this game as a tester, so I'm somewhat familiar with its development and release. There was actually going to be a dynamic campaign, but it had to be scrapped in the final few months due to numerous bugs that couldn't be fixed in time. The virtual cockpit was also very over-ambitious for 1999 / 2000, and it's only now with things like the DCS series that we can really look around and press buttons as intended. Overall the release was a bit anticlimactic compared to what was originally planned and it just felt like more of a relief that it was "done". Still, it was amazing to be involved with, it was a genuinely excellent sim and I'll never forget the time I spent at DI. Great bunch of guys.
I too was a tester - if you look in the credits i'm down as Lloyd Christmas as they forgot my surname and so someone told them it was Christmas, (Lloyd from Dumb and Dumber's surname... lol) Was great to play and test this when i was much younger. Great flight sim compared to what was out at the time, very ambitious and a great bunch of guys. PCs back then was the good old AMD K6/2 450 or PIII 500 era. I had the good old Saitek joystick and throttle. Network games were also good fun - testing of course... ;o)
This really is a pretty good sim and thanks chinkashh for throwin it up here on YT!! I actually got this to work with Windows 8 and my MSFFB 2 joystick, but I had to get the .exe to replace the original one. THe only thing is the instant action runs smooth, the rest of the single missions crash sometimes at the worst moments!!
I remember this sim now that you post it. I really liked it. Now DCS is coming out with the Super-Carrier add-on. Wags the developer always wanted this since the Jane's F-18 Simulator back in the day.
Absolutey no doubt this was one of the best sims ever. Music, presentation, voice acting, flight dynamics and graphics were unbelievable and still well good enough today. And it could be frightening too. So exciting but also bloody hard. Funny too when the pilot keeps screaming when you fly too low. Man this is a fabulous sim. I have LOST my disc! Still its only £3.00 quid at Argos. Gonna get it again.
I remember this game from my childhood and to this day I still don't know how to play it haha. There were crashes in my game so I could never try the takeoff mission. This is the first time in my life that I'm seeing this. My game always started already in the air flying. I remember making the guy scare and scream by nose diving and then going up again
Yeah i buy this game when its released back in 00. I was indeed suprise the level of detail. And i think for game from that era, this one definitely on top of the fighter sim list
Thanks for the memories! Jane's F/A-18, F-15 Eagle, and AH-64D Apache Longbow were back in the day (circa '97-'99) of real combat sims that had a 100+ page manual to read. Still have all three but haven't played them in years. Maybe one day I'll dust off some old components from an old gaming rig and load Windows 98SE and these games..err.. I mean SIMs again! What a shame these real combat sims aren't made anymore. I suppose nobody has the attention span anymore to deal with the complexity.
I have this game and it is the best modern combat Flight Sim I ever played, it is as good as Falcon 4.0, just a couple of years older. The carrier ops in this game are the best!
Lmao! Thanks for this video. I bought this sim when it came out and I still have it. Loved flying this back in the day. I hope there's an F/A-18 sim somewhere in the not too distant future that would better Falcon 4.
Still the best Hornet simulation, until DCS: F/A-18 release. It works under Windows 7 64bit, while Jane's F/A-18 can't start even under XP. GraphSim's Hornet 3.0 hangs up on the menu screen. Only Digital Integration's game can work under modern systems, the only thing to do is checking Win98 compatibility.
Just so you know. I don't have manual for this game either. My first realistic type of Hornet game was Empire Interactive's "F-18 3.0" After that, I have played almost every F-18 based flighsim there is. So when I jumped on 'teh F-18E's pilot seat, I felt like I was at home :P
I'm trying to make this work on a windows 10 system, and using dgvoodoo I was almost successful. The problem is the joystick - all buttons and axes work, aside the main 2 stick axes (x and y). The program does not detect them. I've already trying using the corrected "config.exe" file, which should fix the problem, but it persist. Any thought? was anyone able to make the joystick work?
Notice there are some mistakes in the manual. With little bit of "otaku" nature you can learn the game w/o manual. By simply being intrested on something, for example A Hornet, If you have ever before flied with it, you should be at least little bit familiar with it as how it works. By putting this simple, the Super Hornet is basically same as F-18c, but it has more advanced weapon and radar systems. Also it can carry more equipment. If you got some problem, shoot! ~C
You mean the game closes itself? If so, try using compatibility mode. If you have Vista I don't know then. I need to test it myself on my Laptop when I get the time.
It's a great game that you can get for free these days. Carrier ops are fun, but there's definitely a learning curve. the manual is like 200 pages. I bought bf4 and was bored in five minutes, so I really miss these kind of games. Arma 2 was fun but is now dead without Gamespy. Haven't tried Falcon 4 (BMS) but it looks good too.
played it as a child, was to complicadet for me, but somewhow managed to take off the carrier withot the plane spinning and diving to sea by pressing some buttons before take off, i just tried, maybe several times, until it worked, had no idea what i was doing, lol
ok so i just got the game and i wont to to the trainning misions and everytime when i go over to the aircraft handling and over to the first one on the aircraft handling and i press the commit button and the takeoff button and the screen takes me back to window and what im i doing wrong can some one help me with the probly?
My best friend bought this and hated it so much he gave it to me. I also hated it so played it max 2 times. Fast forward 25 years, I'm about to buy the DCS version, and hoping it's going to be different.
Not to keen on the textures and the takeoff looks a lil rocket like, but I do like the animation of the "shooters"!! Wish FSX Acceleration had them :-)
Yeah. It looks simple enough on the map / mission planner, but after taking off.. well, the confusion only begins, lol. Waypoints on map are useful though, hehe. Although I admit smth. Returning back to the carrier for reload and taking off again, well, I get the feeling of a "broken" game sometimes, cuz there are way too many bugs, unfortunately. It's like the crewmen are made there to work only once during the first take off. And when rollin on deck, you always hit them and they "flip", lol.
The only flight sim game to have a working carrier deck crew, and it's 15 years old... ;(
Yeah the deck crew is fun bonus with people running around with the wands, and random stuff flying around you.
Janes FA18 was good too but I couldn't get it to work on WIn 7. I got this working using DOSbox and haven't had issues..
I have jane's fa-18 running on win7 just fine...
magicstix0r my pre - install freezes at around 90% ran it as administrator does the same thing.
dcs this year
not anymore :)
Nearly 20 years later, Eagle Dynamics is bring back the animated deck crew.
I actually worked on this game as a tester, so I'm somewhat familiar with its development and release. +Stephen Marshall Is there anyway you could make a patch to fix the bugs ? :)
Nope, I was just a tester and I can''t code. Sorry!
+Stephen Marshall Jane's F-18 had a fully clickable virtual cockpit in 1998...
I too was a tester - if you look in the credits i'm down as Lloyd Christmas as they forgot my surname and so someone told them it was Christmas, (Lloyd from Dumb and Dumber's surname... lol) Was great to play and test this when i was much younger. magicstix0r - I-Magic's iF-22 may have been even earlier, 1997 I think.
I don't even have a clue how many hours I played on this but I played it for many years and loved every minute. AWESOME game.
1000000000000000x times more feeling than DCS.
This really is a pretty good sim and thanks chinkashh for throwin it up here on YT!! can you share a link for that .exe, please?
Yeah... me too. Good old days. Thanks for commenting!

After all these years! Thanks alot! :D
Thank you for your comment! Nice to hear this. Carrier ops are the best in this sim indeed!
I definitely had this one I fell in love with it I liked it better than I did Jane's f/a-18 and the hornet is my favorite plane.
Absolutey no doubt this was one of the best sims ever. Music, presentation, voice acting, flight dynamics and graphics were unbelievable and still well good enough today. And it could be frightening too. So exciting but also bloody hard. Funny too when the pilot keeps screaming when you fly too low.

They should remake games like this with the latest graphics. It was fun playing those days.
I have this game and it is the best modern combat Flight Sim I ever played, it is as good as Falcon 4.0, just a couple of years older.
The carrier ops in this game are the best!
THIS IS THE MOST REALISTIC AIRPLAINE MILITARY GAME EVER.
THE GRAPHICS FOR Year 2000 ARE GREAT...
Lmao! Thanks for this video. I bought this sim when it came out and I still have it. Loved flying this back in the day. I hope there's an F/A-18 sim somewhere in the not too distant future that would better Falcon 4.
mrsiCkstar welp, there's the DCS Hornet coming out now
so much fun!! couldn't stop watching it, it did not looked like a 10 min video
I have this game but I can't get past the mission planner! It quits on me! What am I missing?
how can I play this game with current computers... 😩 With Windows 10 it's impossible? Have you got a solution please!?!🤞🤞🤞
Thanks
@Skyreider Maybe I can find a way to give you the files straight from my disk?
this game look insane good for a 2000 pc game
this is a good realistic game beside of Tornado,Falcon3,Longbow2,Strike Eagle 3,EF2000,F22TAW at this times
Very good gameplay well done
Loved this game! Sadly can't find it anywhere anymore.
Five years late but if you're still looking for this game I found it on steam for around $9.99 USD

Didn't expect the Behind Enemy Lines audio at 5:28!
If you want I will upload it! But do you can tell me, how I can play this game on vista?
Just so you know. I don't have manual for this game either. My first realistic type of Hornet game was Empire Interactive's "F-18 3.0" After that, I have played almost every F-18 based flighsim there is. So when I jumped on 'teh F-18E's pilot seat, I felt like I was at home :P
That's a shitload of AMRAAMs!!!!
I'm trying to make this work on a windows 10 system, and using dgvoodoo I was almost successful. The problem is the joystick - all buttons and axes work, aside the main 2 stick axes (x and y). Thank you! You're not the only one who haven't played this! Check your messages, info there!

My first flight game
Yeah! Deck folks rock :P

@chinkashh Thanks! By the way you know where i can get a patch ? Cause the game is really laggy atm :/
What's compatability mode? How to enable it?
awesome, awesome to the max!
What's the music playing from 1:12, sounds like something out of splinter cell.
I love the F-14 Tomcat, because, it's way faster, the F/A-18E/F is an okay plane.
You mean the game closes itself? If so, try using compatibility mode. If you have Vista I don't know then. I need to test it myself on my Laptop when I get the time.
No clue how it works or if it even works on Vista.. I'll try to test it soon..
=S the screen is just black in my pc when i try this one .... **shortcut already configured forwin 98 ** any ideas ?
Yup, it's classic :) But it's still hard even if you try ordering it..
Did you try it? It doesn't work on mine. Aww, i wanted to get this game on the go!
I played this a lot years ago. It’s nice and detailed and a heck of a game to play. Although it’s an easy game to play,
Graphix ? Fuck em! What matters is how realistic the simulator is!
Yeah!
I used to fail, i put flaps down first, that made the blast deflector come up. i just smacked straight into it.
The reason I bought my first joystick 🕹️
It's a great game that you can get for free these days. Carrier ops are fun, but there's definitely a learning curve. the manual is like 200 pages.
I bought bf4 and was bored in five minutes, so I really miss these kind of games. Arma 2 was fun but is now dead without Gamespy. Haven't tried Falcon 4 (BMS) but it looks good too.
I miss this game. I can't find it anywhere in the net :(
LOL at 5:51! Ahahaha!
Silliness aside, this looks like it was actually a pretty cool sim. The 2D cockpit appears very functional, especially the HUD.
Awesome sim!
I miss DI, Imagic, Microprose... :(
in the dogfight, if a enemywas behind you, you're killed
I want to play it.Is there a link that is free.I want to download. Thanks
Getting this once on GOG discounted sale.
I could swear that some of these sounds are from 'Behind Enemy Lines'
acctually those guys of the " air combat zone " use this sim =D im a Janes F/A-18 user and im going to try this one for sure !
Even DCS doesn't have animated deck or ground crews.
I played it when i was 20. Now i am 41. Lol! Probably had to memorize more than 100 controls.
This is amazing! How can it be that I have never played them?
Can you tell me what musics you used?
i remember picking this game up ages ago gr8 game awesome music.. unfortunatly... i lost it :(
spaceship sims are coming back in near future.
Look up vrsimulation for a realistic F/A-18E on Microsoft Flight Simulator X, It's called F/A-18E SuperBug now that the game you all have to get.
I want to get this game. But after having to read and understand falcon's 800+ page manual, I dread repeating the experience.
"FIRING UP ENGINE".... JYEAH!!!!!!!
played it as a child, was to complicadet for me, but somewhow managed to take off the carrier withot the plane spinning and diving to sea by pressing some buttons before take off, i just tried, maybe several times, until it worked, had no idea what i was doing, lol
Does the hornet really carry that many aim-120's??
+breadturbo scarily yes it does lol
nostalgic
If only BF3 had this kind of action!
I bought it like 8 years ago :D
ok so i just got the game and i wont to to the trainning misions and everytime when i go over to the aircraft handling and over to the first one on the aircraft handling and i press the commit button and the takeoff button and the screen takes me back to window and what im i doing wrong can some one help me with the probly?
I heard you boys are ripping on F-18s
training finally paid off
My best friend bought this and hated it so much he gave it to me. I also hated it so played it max 2 times. Fast forward 25 years, I'm about to buy the DCS version, and hoping it's going to be different.
@shozma
Nice! Best of luck!
Hey what's the name of the song at 1:40 ?

Can it work on windows 7 ?
@ajlusted Now that I know, you are my new Jesus. Is Digital Integration still together?
Whats the name of the game?
Is the game name Jane f/a 18
Not to keen on the textures and the takeoff looks a lil rocket like, but I do like the animation of the "shooters"!!
Wish FSX Acceleration had them :-)
dokuro-chan
never seen a flight simulator and mirrors edge music put together
I played that game;D
