Just got a S5ii after using the R6 for video since 2020.. i don’t think I’ll ever use another canon camera for video again. I’ve already started selling off most of my RF lenses.
@ the image stabilization is the best in the game. And i feel like it’s the only TRUE hybrid cause the video features just make life so easy. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll never leave canon for photo, but I’ll never use it again for video! ♥️
Everyone will have their preferences but I do believe Nikon took the biggest leap this year. They are now in the video/ cinematography room and who knows may be leading the conversation going forward.

@@BrittneyJanae its price is fair, between advantages and disanvatages.for me the most importarnt is the cooling system, im from warm country, so i cant shoot 4k with no fan. and the v-log which has the best aesthetic for me (i was c-log & s-log user).
Love your work! I’m rocking the LUMIX G95 coming from my Canon 70D. Not sure if I’m fully sold on it just yet but I love the video image it produces. I guess the only thing is the autofocus speed and if I should invest in FF vs 4/3 instead.
Not related, but I would LOVE if you did a video on diffusion filters. I was testing a bunch the other day and found myself living with the 1/8 & 1/4 Glimmerglass set.

Yeah the Blackmagic is definitely a steal! Hoping for those deals too!! That’s why it’s such a good camera to get if someone is trying to grow but don’t have the crazy funds! The image is beautiful!
If you were to buy a camera today, would you choose the FX3, ZV-E1, or the Canon R5 Mark II? For interviews and travel content, do you have any other suggestions?
Honestly the fx3! I heard about the zv-e1 overhearing so it’s not good for long interview style content. The body of the fx3 is better for rigging. But I also use my fx3 for travel content! So it’s just an all an around good camera!
@@MODESTYXO205 I've only used the Zf and the Z8 but I will say this. Most clients I work with when they give me formats and resolutions of how they want me to shoot it's mostly sony. Most of them are familiar with the system and like it. So if you want to use it for work you may get more play with the fx3. If you have clients that don't care about that and you're in the nikon family, nikon is great!
My camera journey went something like this: Sony NEX-VG20 - Panasonic GH3, GH4, GH5 - BMPCC6K - RED Komodo. I love my Komodo as it's the perfect size for travel, commercial and narrative work. I will say this though, the feeling of looking at Blackmagic footage straight out of camera is a chef's kiss. Similar to your situation I couldn't book work with the BMPCC6K with larger clients, but as soon as I switched over to the RED-- clients took projects seriously. (I often think about buying a Pyxis just because I miss Blackmagic workflow and cameras.) That said, I loved all my cameras for different reasons and now want to focus on owning cine glass. I currently own the full Meike S35 set and love them, but for client/narrative work-- looking to step up a bit.
I’m in the same boat as you! Wanting to focus on glass!! Most times I have to rent a camera anyway depending on the client and scale but one thing I won’t cheap on is glass!
I’ve filmed with LUMIX GH cameras for years, from GH1, 2, 3, 4 to GH5S. I wholeheartedly agree with you on the menu system. When I switched to Blackmagic cameras the menu system may have won me over more than the image. Lol. Though I understand the pocket cameras aren’t hybrid like the Panasonic cameras which probably contributes to the menu chaos.
That’s the thing too! Companies gotta understand you can have amazing specs but if it makes the workflow harder it doesn’t add up! It’s always why I always go back and forth between my fx3 and my blackmagic! lol
Awesome work! 🎉 love MQ r3d files and the portability for travel and access with my komodo. Wouldn't switch it for anything other than an arri mini or mini lf in the future. If i need anything more than the komodo i would rent. For stills i used to love my nikon d810 i replaced with gfx then later x2d. Nikon is doing everything right at the moment.
The Komodo is nice! Especially with darker skin tones! The colors are crazy! I rent as well so most times I’m using a arri when I’m DPing. But Nikon really did pop out this year!
Loved this video, but you saying that the Lumix menu was worse than Sony's was an ashy take lol Just kidding lolz 😂😅😂😅 Lumix, DJI, Arri, and Blackmagic have the absolute BEST UI hands down. Super easy to find options, unlike Sony where you have to go to multiple tiers of pages to get to some of the options, and with the S5IIX, having the ability to long press almost any button and set it to almost any function is MINT, and a super duper dope time saver. I don't own too many cameras, but I've used a ton, and the Lumix ones I've used are far and away the most fun to play with. They really are kind of set it and forget it devices. Besides the Arris, obviously😅
Lol it’s really bad!! Blackmagic and arri have the BEST! LUMIX and Nikon menu is trash lmbo. The functionality is different lol but the menu itself is boo boo lmbo

But once I got the hang of how the menu works, it becomes much more intuitive. And they have that feature where you can put all your most frequently used settings on one screen that you can access with a single button press. At any rate, I'm still working on trying to be like you when I grow up, what with you owning all them cameras. TEACH ME, SENSEI LMAO
I got a couple videos on my settings but I do slog3. I focus on exposing 1 stop or so over but it really depends on how I want the outcome to be! It’s really the outside factors of the camera that plays a bigger part. But those are the base settings for sure! Once you do figure it out, you’re gonna be so happy! Let me know if you have specific questions
I do not have any experience with the cameras you showed in this video. I will say that I have been looking at the Panasonic BGH1 and cine lens kits from Irix. Requires a while to save up. I was thinking get the camera new and the lenses second hand.
@@NoelLeavy If you want the focus to follow you then a Sony Or Lumix is fine. If you want to get in position and then get focus, you can use the Blackamgic. You can catch autofocus with a phone app and use a monitor or iPad mini to monitor yourself for focus and false colors. I use a Hollyland Pyro H connected to Blackmagic camera to send out a wifi and video feed to monitor or iPad so I can monitor myself. Then I use a Blackmagic phone app to control the camera settings and focus. So it depends how much in and out movement you are doing.
I'm definitely considering the s5iix to pair with my blackmagic cameras. Being able to get BRAW with the video assist makes it appealing, but i heard theres a bit of pag with external monitors 🙄lol
@BrittneyJanae you can get braw with the s5 using a 12G video assist, and yeah the lag is on the lumix. It only has hdmi, hopefully there's an update to fix 🤞🏾
Hi Ladies, I have both the s5ii with Video Assist and BMCC6K. Yea there is some lag with the lumix and monitor. I also tested the VA with SD cards and found that you can record in all formats and frame rates with Sandisk V60 without frame drops so no need for v90.

I've never been a Nikon person, but that is the brand my little brother works with. I'm a Canon user because of its color science. I have the Canon R, C200, and the R5c. As you know this industry can be costly and switching brands adds to that cost.. Happy New year

Nikon is just the best digital systems out there. Sony doesn't deserve to be mentioned, period. Slow image processors bad ergonomic design and mostly for the young know nothings. Canon, nikon, om and fuji are the only ones people should be getting if they are into sports or for anything.
@BrittneyJanae nikon is the best consumer and pro cameras in the digital world. Definitely better than Sony. Been shooting Canon film since 1989 and nikon digital since 2006. Only digital I run are Canon and nikon depending on the look I am looking for. Prefer nikon due to having the best image processors on the market. Sony just too slow to be used for anything but landscape and portrait.

Sony FX3 is Great but I feel like I haven’t unlocked all the way.. what’s setting do recommend when shooting BTS or mini commercials?

For the blackmagic? I didn’t thoroughly check that but it will be something I check! It may come down to the monitor and if you’re doing HDMI or SDI
