    Up date on my new 2019 Honda HSS724 ATD I just took delivery of and it did arrive with a very short internal shoot/collar. Not a mod but factory install so Honda made the change to the design which now makes this snow machine far superior over the rest. I gave my dad my electric start Craftsman and went right to my local Honda dealer and put in my order and I told him about the clogging issue and he mentioned the dealer modification free of charge but he said he believes Honda took care of this problem. Sure enough when we took it out of his truck that's the first thing I looked for.

    I just took delivery of a 9 28 today. Ambiant temp went from 40 degrees to under 10 degrees in a few hours. My driveway had 4 to 6 inches of standing slush because it melted so quick. I'm happy to report the 9 28 only clogged once when I was not going all out and I let it clog. I believe this issue is mostly resolved with the revised chute collar but I'm sure your design is an improvement and i may take advantage of it in a few years once I'm out of warranty

    Made all the difference in the world. In the offseason I am going to spray ceramic coat the entire snow processing part of my 1132. I didnt see you go with an impeller kit...unless I missed it. What are your thoughts there? And why does Honda use such a terrible chute clearing device?

  • @nikpalekar5147

    My new 2020 Honda 1332 has a smaller collar than your machine and the dealer said that this should eliminate the clogging issue. I've used the machine for a couple of hours on fairly dry and hard-packed snow so I can't say if that shorter collar is a fix for clogging. I may have to wait till the spring when you get those wet heavy snowfalls in late March and early April with the air temperature around 32 to 34F.

I have a older 724 that worked flawless here on Long Island. Only mistake I made was buy it with wheels. 2 years ago I gave it to my brother replaced it with the 28 inch with tracks only used it once and it failed miserably. I want my 724 back! For that reason Canada buyers got all the good versions first with their deeper snowfalls, finally here in USA, Love the way it slices perfect paths through most snow better than other companies!

    Honda USA issued a service bulletin in September 2018 finally acknowledging this problem. They are making available a replacement chute with most of the collar removed. The cost will be covered for all 724, 928, and 1332 units still under warranty, but only as/if requested (i.e. it is NOT a recall). So one does not need to make this modification any more.

    Most snowblowers clog up in wet / slushy snow because of the gap between the 2nd stage impeller and the internal housing. People rectify this by adding a rubber paddle to the impeller end to close the gap. Do you think that this issue was / is the initial source of your clogging problem, that then ended up with snow fully clogging the chute collar? Great video btw.

    • @papabits5721
      @papabits5721 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely right , rubber paddles mounted to the end of the impeller flutes will stop this for ever and they will help throw snow a lot farther, get out when it’s still cold outside also.

I live in New Brunswick so I get a lot of snow here. My issue that I have is, the big ass hole in the back where you see the chains of the tracks. Hi. Very interesting and informative. I'm an Ariens user but found your video interesting. However, I was wondering, when you had the chute off, you could have put a chute liner in to protect it from getting scuffed up.
    Good and informative.

    • @JohnFrancoNH
      @JohnFrancoNH  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes lining the chute did come to mind. Similar to how Yamaha does their chute. I was thinking of lining just the back of it with a thin sheet of teflon. Im still on the fence whether its worth it or not. If i do plan on doing it, i will make a video out of it. Nothing sticks to it normally even though it does have some paint damage. But that may change as it gets more roughed up from repeated use. Carnuba wax is a good alternative to maintain a slick chute. Thanks for watching!

      +Boom that would fix it. I've resisted doing the impeller mod where I live because I rarely have to deal with slush, and when I do, it's not much. However, I'm looking into making a chute baffle, which is what that collar is, for my snow blower. However, it won't be welded in and will be removable without tools.

  • @xcalibre222
    @xcalibre222 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I'd leave a small 1" ring on bottom for support that you can always remove if it caused a problem. I think the reason Honda put this on was mainly the lawyers to prevent lawsuits, it makes it harder to stick your arm in to clean it out. But yeh, it does make it harder for the slush to come out. As far as warranty work it's good they only have 2 year warranty because that's probably gone after the Mod,lol. They look for any excuse to drop your warranty. Thanks for the Vid.

    • @JohnFrancoNH
      @JohnFrancoNH  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would love to hear directly from an a Honda engineer what the function of the collar truely is. Its definitely not for support. Because the metal chute does not need it. It is very stiff with out it in place. And previous gens Hondas never had a collar. Not for lawsuits because you can still stick your arm in there, and now with less visibility.
      Seems like Hondas with the electronic joystick for chute activation are the only ones with this collar because of the large cowling on the front to protect the 2 chute motors from the elements. And the collar provides added protection to the lamp assembly which is position further foward now then older models. With out the collar is it possible for debris such as sand,dirt,sticks and gravel to damage the finish on the cowling & lamp assembly. This is because the chute can rotate back on itself. This is my theory. Thanks for watching!

      @xcalibre222 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see some snowblower manufacturers put a triangle shape heavy wire in this same location now on the chutes.Just makes it a bit harder to shove your arm in down to the blades. Now what dummy would do that,LOL. I bet that blower throws snow a mile with that plate gone.Thanks, Jim

The issue that I have is that its very slow rotation of a shoot from left to right and right to left as well as up and down. Its a pretty nown problem with this new Hondas. Do you know a solution or a suggestion of how to make rotation of shoot faster, can motor be adjuster, or replaced? Any suggestions. Thank you.

    • @JohnFrancoNH
      @JohnFrancoNH  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Anatoli, thanks for checking out the video. I know what you mean about the chute rotation and elevation being not as fast as you may desire. But honestly it does not bother me at all. Having the joystick sure beats rotating it manually like i did on my previous HS1332. The speed on my machine i would say is neither slow nor fast but rather right in the middle.
      Maybe you just need to put a light coating of white lithium grease on the chute drive ring. Also make sure your cable is routed properly with out any sharp bends, kinks or pinch points.
      Besides that in order to make it faster you would have to replace the motors with ones of a slightly higher rpm. The Honda chute motors look very similar to window regulator motors that autos use. Of course if you did this the warranty will be void as it will accelerate wear on all the related components. Thanks for watching!
