Will someone PLEASE state repeatedly that social security is MY money. For over 40 years I worked and had NO choice not to pay the social security tax taken from my pay. It is NOT entitlement.

Why do they keep saying it's an entitlement program as if it's something they are giving us. Social security is self funding. Its not part of a budget. And yes I am entitled to it. I earned it.

As Bernie says here, we need to raise the cap on the SSI contributions, but, we also need to REMOVE the SSI trust from the "General Fund" so the trust cannot be "drained" via funding un-necessary wars and/or otherwise support tax breaks for those who earn above the SSI contribution cap.
It scares the crap out of me when they talk about cutting social security. We would lose our house and wouldn't be able to survive. How can they do that to the elderly and so many disabled Americans?

We the people have paid into Social Security. This is our money we worked for. I worked 46 years and paid into Social Security. Don't take from the people that earned it. Corporations need to pay taxes instead of making we the people pay they're taxes.

Corporations don't pay taxes, their customers do, because whatever the government charges businesses in taxes gets passed along to the people buying their goods and services. Raising taxes on coroprations just means higher prices in the stores for consumers. To not recognize this is to flunk Econ 101.

So after decades of having a Social Security deduction from a person's (already limited) wages, which has been earning interest & dividends, they want to deny that person's OWN MONEY?
They can't eliminate benefits for those who are currently eligible or are receiving Social Security. Social Security is an insurance policy that we all pay into over a lifetime. Congress has a fiduciary obligation to pay benefits to every senior who is eligible. FICA literally stands for Federal Insurance Contribution Act. It's an insurance policy. For congress to cut or refuse to pay out benefits to those who are eligible would be like my home owners Insurance refusing to rebuild my house after it burnt down. They couldn't just change their policy after the house has already burned. I'm not saying they won't try but in the end even congress has to comply with federal law.

I'm one of them seniors that live on about that amount of money Bernie talks about.I worked till I was about 68yrs.old my health doesn't let me work anymore.I never asked for help whatsoever, my income was always on the low end.Bernie speaks the truth always !

This terrifies me. I had epilepsy bubble up around fifteen years ago and it destroyed me in many ways. I ended up having to leave a job that I had been at for 16 years. It took me a decade to get any help from our government and I need the assistance. Now, the political right is buckling down again on punishing people like me because they worship the almighty dollar. I don't identify as a Christian, but I am a better one than many of those politicians pushing things like, "Jesus. Guns. Babies," during their speeches. Like nails on a chalkboard.

Bernie has more energy and is mentally sharper than most people half his age. I agree with him that the main challenge is to educate the American voter. He's a great example of clear speech and powerful logic which people not versed in politics and economic theory can follow.

I want to say Brian, Bernie's statements on SO many issues on this video, I myself go thru. I became disabled in my 40's...I started working at 14yrs old...it's EXTREMELY hard to live on Social security, I don't hear well and can't afford a hearing aid & my teeth have suffered because I can't pay the high bills from the dentist's. Bernie makes a lot of sense with regards to these issues and it really is disappointing to know our government just thinks it's ok to look down on people who don't have large savings accounts to work from.

I've supported many of Bernie's ideas for years, our country needs to be able to pay for all the programs. Cut the BS programs, find ways to make Social Security/Medicare more efficient, and cut politician pay/benefits.

This is the best and most important interview I've heard in years. Bernie does advocate for all of us "average" Americans. After hearing his words today, in answer to exceptionally fine questions from Brian, how could anyone, but those in the industries he mentioned, vote Republican?

I lived through the the Reagan years, I made the least of my money under that administration, and George Bush senior, Reagan always said that if we had tax breaks for the corporations and the millionaires, workers would benefit, the trickle down effect never happened.

If anything like this happens, I would advocate people collectively striking with their taxes and claiming exempt every year. What is the underfunded IRS gonna do? Come after 250 million of us? So much I could say but I'll try to keep it brief.
I have been an RN for 31 years and worked in hospitals since the early 1980s. I've watched too many patients fret over how they will pay their medical bills. I've seen patients have to choose between paying for their medicine or buying food. I've also watched hospitals not be able to make ends meet as a result of the insurance companies denying payments.
I've also worked for insurance companies and have been trying to tell people for years that we need to overhaul our American insurance and pharmaceutical industries.
I believe that most Americans have no clue how much money those two entities make and how hard they fight to keep from parting with that money.

Businesses have such an unfair advantage over voters. Voters really only have a couple ways to fight for what the majority of Americans needs.
