    Update Jan. 14, 2023: After taking the A5 test, this video is helpful with brake drag and brake pull. I did not talk about what can cause tapered wear on a brake pad or what can cause the inboard pad to be worn more than the outer...hint hint.

      @@michaelbrock6210 I recommend buying the book "Today's technician automotive brake systems." The classroom manual and shop manual. If you really want to improve you'll read both, can get them for $10 each on ebay, the 6th edition, 7th edition if you can find it cheap.

      @@michaelbrock6210 Absolutely! Those 2 books are what taught me the fundamentals. These books are used at the college brakes class. The books are lengthy, but you gotta put the time in!

    Here for review for my A5 recert. One of the best things I was taught about before I took my A5 was that on the ASE test always remember. technician A and technician B are never going against each other. They are simply a true, false/ true,false question.

    On a practice test I took it the question said it pulls to the right when braking and 2 of the answers were a seized front left caliper and a seized right front caliper the correct answer was a seized left front caliper can someone explain why it’s that and not possibly a and b?

    • @jvp3778
      @jvp3778 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Is it because it says DURING braking? If it was seized in the applied position it would be after braking?

    • @OldSchoolNoe
      @OldSchoolNoe  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jvp3778 The keyword is DURING. That front left caliper is not doing anything so the front right is biting and slowing the vehicle down thus pulling to the right. It looks like you're grasping the concepts! If the front left caliper seized in the applied position, then technically it would pull whenever you're not braking.

    The vocabulary is really important. That’s where people get confused and thrown off

    • @OldSchoolNoe
      @OldSchoolNoe  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      give me 2 examples please. I recently uploaded a test prep series for the A7, and "restricted" and "plugged up" were 2 words that could have caused confusion when it came to system pressures.
      The test did not give conflicting answers and all questions were asked in a clear manner. Same with the A5, once you understand the concept of brake drag/pull, you'll be fine no matter what vocab the test throws at you.

      @@OldSchoolNoe I haven’t tested yet that’s how I’ve found your videos bc I’m about to schedule for some test and I think I’m gonna take A5 first I’ve been doing this for over 20 years professionally but never could benefit financially where I’m at but now that I’m in my 40s I think it’s time to get some of my ase certs. But what I meant by the vocabulary being confusing,let’s take restricted for example. From watching your videos it looks like restricted could mean completely no flow of fluid or very little but I guess I’d have to see the questions with the multiple choice answers to make it easier for me. I did get the questions right you included in your mini series.

    Hey I had a question so I’m planning to take A5 test I was reading the comment n saw someone commenting about how on there test they didn’t explain if the calipers piston and brake hose was completely blocked off or partially so how would I know when I’m reading the question if they mean completely blocked off or partially thank you

    • @OldSchoolNoe
      @OldSchoolNoe  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've taken 6 ASE tests, and most of the time I've noticed that they mean completely blocked off. They won't try to trick you and give 2 possible answers. I would say don't worry too much about it, there's at least 1 question about "restrictions."

    Can I know the answers to the questions at the end of the video please?

    • @OldSchoolNoe
      @OldSchoolNoe  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      For the first question, most likely it is not due to a faulty master cylinder or worn brake pads. In theory, a leaking brake hose on the left will cause poor stopping ability on the left, therefore the vehicle will pull to the right, because the right side will have 100% stopping ability. The answer is B. If the caliper piston is seized on the right side, the brakes will not activate on the right side.
      Question 2 the answer is C. A bleeder is valve is used to remove old fluid and purge air out of the system. If its binding (hard to loosen), it will not cause brake drag.
      3rd question: A faulty master cylinder will not create hydraulic pressure, therefore it will not cause brake pull. A brake pull is usually caused by a defect in one side (left side or right side). A faulty metering valve affects both sides in the front, most likely it will not cause a pull. A faulty drum brake self-adjuster will not adjust as drum brakes wear. This will cause the brake pedal to travel further as brake shoes wear. Theoretically, if the wear is severe on one side with bad self-adjusters, there could be a pull, but this is not the most likely. The answer is D. A brake caliper will cause a pull when faulty. Faulty meaning not activating, not moving, seized.

    which suspensioin component casusing pull during breaks?

      Can be worn bushings on the control arm.
      Worn ball joints too, but you'll notice a pull on acceleration too.

    Hey in the test they don't specify if the seized part is resting or applied. They use the vocab of "Frozen" or "Seized". It is confusing that your video does not use the same vocabulary.

    • @OldSchoolNoe
      @OldSchoolNoe  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I noticed this, but when I took the test, I had no conflict in answers. For the most part I noticed that seized means stuck in the resting position. I don't think I saw the official test use "frozen" as a descriptor. Hope this helps!
