"It would be on a Tuesday, the last day of November". I understand knowing the exact day, but what makes it more beautiful is that he adds a little personal touch.
Notice the order in which the two guys place the pieces on the board. Daniel is placing the pieces row by row, which reflects his conversion of the board into a number sequence. The chess player's recollection is scattered; he places the pieces in whatever random order his brain recalls. He is likely analyzing the position spatially, and trying to memorize each piece's position with respect to the position of the other pieces, which is of course how players view the pieces in games.
I am impressed with the memory of the guy who inspired the Rain man. I just wanna laugh, I like where Daniel says dude almost has too much info he can't get it out fast enough.
The thing is he wasn't really using strategy at the start of it. He was just using memory alone which wasn't helping. When he split them, he realized the patterns that the cards were making and could judge them well when combined with his memory. Because the odds of getting 21 on each of the 3 hands of 7 by accident are much slimmer than doing it on purpose.
It has once been said that the reason the brain cannot grow much further is that it is dependent upon the space of which it was contained within. Perhaps we could be prepared in the future if our heads were a bit less limiting, but we'd feel the weight of it all collapsing upon us. Perhaps we're ready for new changes, but physical realities lead to a compromise within us.
I think these kind of people just leaped over a part of evolution unintentionally. I think all humans are going to be this exceptional one day. The reason they can't deal well with human contact, empathy and/or changes in their scedule... I don't know, maybe their brains weren't prepared for this kind of leap?
"one day ull be as wonderful as I am" I hope he ment as famous... cuz this dude is already wonderful hes supernatural almost compared to the average joe
ELO is a grade for ranking chess players. Poor players would have around 1400 ELO, good players would have around 2000 ELO, and the world's best are around 2750+. I myself have 2000 ELO rating, and I don't think I'd have a lot of trouble putting back a chess position in a few minutes. The only condition for me, would be that it'd have to be a 'logical' position I guess.
darn i envy these people. people dont see what we can do with our selves! we can make any technology in our world. but we wont be able to unless we put effort in there to find it.
True, but chess players memorise a chess board in terms of the game (possible moves, moves until mate, and so on) - it's impossible for an arrangement of pieces to be truly random in the porcess of a game of chess, so the memory skill set is slightly different. but i take your point nonetheless
How would you remember the chess? Do you remember it by it's numeric position. Or do you remember it by recognizing the sensation of where a piece was once before and where it was able to go and not go. I remember one time in Jail I lost at chess something I haven't played since i was a kid. But I decided to practice beating myself without losing. So someone came in and hit the pieces accidenlty and I sat there recognizing where they go and where they could move and not move.
Read my previous messages. I was talking about how if our skulls were a bit larger our brains would have the capacity to grow and possibly evolve further. It's a slightly different conversation than what has happened to this person in reaction to another's comment.
kim peek is completly diffrent his real skill kim peeks father said himself that kim cant reason out mathamatic equasions. this guy does it via images textures etc its MAD
@Wavecurve Yeah, I noticed that. They didnt give it any context....unless.... of course this NY park is well known for chess hustlers. Google seems to think so ;o)
I wonder if this guy really is a threat to the casino. He changes strategy in the middle of the shoe and makes a move that costs a lot in the long run: splitting 7's against a 10. Anyone who studies blackjack understands that imagery alone could not logically lead him to such a move. Sure, he got lucky, but that was the short run. What about the long term results? If I was manager of this casino Daniel Tammet would be given the welcome mat.
The most impressive thing to me is how kind and humble Daniel is.
RIP Kim. He was one of a kind. In his later years they discovered that he was also a music savant.
"It would be on a Tuesday, the last day of November".

Love listening to him...I would love to take a lecture by him
He doesn't think he is better than everyone, he knows it.
I love Daniel's face at 6:43 when the real rain man gets his birthday year and date exact.
6:43
I'd give up my social skills to be a savant
I can only imagine what these two could accomplish together. I'm sure that what I'm imagining falls way short of reality.
I like it when he smiles after being told hes "a fine man" lol
That older guy is a mastermind!
Nice to see that kind of power is such a kind and well composed person.
Very simple explanation to all this... The matrix nailed it, and this guy is Neo.
That old man is like "Damn kids, i do this shit for a living."
hah! that chess hustler with the hat actually took a few bucks from me when I lived there!! lol.
wow imagine having sort of a computer memory in your head! daam!... even better than that!

Imagine having this guys vision and being high at the same time.

Human potential is just awesome. It just blows my mind what our brains are capable of.
he does actually. he even has some of his mannerisms... but he has such an incredible brain... wow
reads left pages, left eye, right pages, right eye, and remembers 98% of it.. in just 8 seconds. WOW Kim PEEK!!

HE IS BEGINNING TO BELIEVE...HE IS THE ONE..!
Kim Peek needs to go on Who wants to be a millionaire. He'd own that show
People watch Temple Grandin here on youtybe. Shes a professor/visual thinker/ autist and absolutely amazing too !
astrologically, goats like daniel get along with rabbits like kim- There both Fixed signs too and "prefer to be left alone"
What a fantastic example of what brain power means, wow, I wish I could have a little bit of that :)
Daniel Tammet = Calculator
Kim Peek= Google
Stephen Wiltshire = Google Earth

im speechless thats just......amazing
so funny how im watching this the day before my final exams.... i wish i was a savant.. T_T
Amazing human brain. More complex than international telephone networks combined.
had he not split the 2 sevens initially, he'd have gotten 21
"i played cards with friends..." me too daniel. LOL
Kim is really checking Daniel out at 7:31
incredible. Just trying to imagine how his brain would work is too much for me. What a guy.

'that's pretty good for being a non-chess player' = 'that's amazing for being a human'
These guys need to be on who wants to be a millionaire! 😳😄

Kim Peek was an amazing man, much respect
R.I.P =(
The having brains like theirs would be as "normal" as having what is considered a normal brain is today.
They would, but nobody would realise it... oh fuck my mind is blown
Its so funny how Kim Peek is always holding onto someone.
wow......if i can have half of their memory
Wow~! Fascinating!
Hi Sir, very very very nice
This must be like a continuous bad trip.
I actually prefer it that way, you get to enjoy things twice or even more jaja
same here, These guys have like 120,000,000 TB of memory while I only have like 1 GB.
The 8th Doctor is so wise.
I guess Kim Peek also influenced that show called Kyle XY where there is this guy anmed Kyle who can remember anything he reads....awesome

The human brain stores everything you ever see hear touch smell etc. the problem is being able to access those memories
i knew kim peek could read like that but i didnt know he knew just about everything about the world...
every child between 5 and 8 wants to be one...from there on comes the "i want to be a superhero!!!" thing............just trolling around
did you know that too much information in the brain can create a black hole within your brain?
No, the answer to life, the universe and everything is 42.
Read my previous messages. I was talking about how if our skulls were a bit larger our brains would have the capacity to grow and possibly evolve further. It's a slightly different conversation than what has happened to this person in reaction to another's comment.
Kim Peek rocks nobody can mess with him
kim peek is completly diffrent his real skill kim peeks father said himself that kim cant reason out mathamatic equasions.
this guy does it via images textures etc its MAD
We need to breed people with these dudes
About the reading part... I think he reads the left page with his left eye, and vice versa, but not at the same time. At least, that's how I think...
R.I.P Kim Peek.
it does if your a musician.
