The movie follows a young maid who works for an affluent mother of four in 1970s Mexico City, telling a story of class, motherhood, and hardship.

@SimplyBored that's exactly what auto tune is, a pitch correction sound effect that when overused produces the "robot" effect in the song, they used it on purpose to make it sound like that but the program they used is still auto tune.

Just a correction: The line when 'I was older, I was a sailor' is verbatim in the film. One of the children in the film says it, as a fantasy of a past life -- 'When I was older I was a sailor and I died out on the sea.' -- Billie however did use the sounds of the film like the waves crashing and the haunting chants in the background are the chants of the Mexican student protesters before they were shot at (and some killed) by what many Mexicans believe to be paramilitary groups.
