As a spanish person Who was living in the UK for 2 years I will say: I'm against monarchy anyway because is an expensive theatre, but feeling respect for the English one which is more serious than Spanish one. The wedding of Prince William with Kate Middleton meant more money; but the wedding of Prince Felipe with Letizia Rocasolano meant money losses; just for to start because OMG if I speak about the abdicated king who have to many non-recognized sons/daughters.

There is nothing awkward. Their Majesties are of equal status and it is quite conform etiquette that the king then formally kisses the queen.
She seemed genuinely happy to see and to receive the kiss from the King. Maybe wrong but the Queen seems to be a sweet person. I'd like to sit down and have a visit with her.
As a British person I admire our Queen greatly, as a Monarch but most of all as a good honouorable hard working woman, and she just grows in the affections of most of her people as she ages.
