I just noticed that in the last part of the video in at least a couple of occasions two men are dancing together. Considering that this was 1989, it was pretty groundbreaking!
Bob Fosse had that going on in the movie All That Jazz, which was about 10 years earlier. That's where the style of dance in this video comes from--even the metal scaffolding on the set, the costumes, and a lot of other touches. (I didn't see the movie until long after this video came out, so I didn't know it at the time!)

I heard this song on the radio yesterday and gotta say...even though I was only 10 yrs old at the time when this song shot to #1, it brought back alot of memories from 89. My older sister would play it as loud as possible on her ghetto blaster while crimping her hair as she got ready to go out to the club on Sat night. We would dance and sing this song together into our hairbrushes that we used as microphones. Ahhh bitter sweet memories!!! Def one of Paula's best songs, always was/is a huge fan of her music.
