    Jimmy Saville was a famous TV personality who did the equivalent of "Make A Wish". He was from Leeds (although people forget he was a Liverpool fan), and ever since he was outed as the monster he was, Leeds United fans have been the subject of being mocked over it.
    We generally receive "Jimmy Saville - he's one of your own", and we reply with something associated with the team singing it. So, for Swansea (a Welsh team) it's "he shagged all your sheep", Huddersfield (nicknamed the Terriers) it's "... all your dogs" and so on.
    By the way, almost half of these clips are Leeds fans. One of if not the most hated club in the country thanks to the 1970s.

    Hi !! History records that at the battle of Agincourt, the English longbow men destroyed the French army. The French said that they would chop off the two fingers of the bowmen to stop them using a longbow ever again. When the battle was won the longbow men held two fingers up as a sign of contempt !!!

    • @mulrich
      @mulrich ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Very late to the punch here, but the earliest record of that "explanation" dates to the 1970s, and people have been doing the two-finger salute much longer than that.
      In other words: it's an urban legend.

    This is not only persuading me to go to America and try these chants at an NFL game. But also made me realise Americans have an even smaller understanding of sarcasm than I thought.

    The 2nd one about Adam Johnson was recorded at The Union Rooms bar in the city centre of Newcastle upon Tyne and its a decent place for a pint. Also where i met my now wife on a blind date nearly 15 years ago. Fond memories 🤣🤣🤣

    "Going down but straight back up" means that your team got relegated but will be just promoted the next season.
    The European football league system has tiers. In that chant's context, the lads chanting must be from a Championship team (the second tier of English football). The said team goes down a tier, to League One, which is the third tier of English football.
