  • Full Episode: • Mary, Liturgy, Charism...
If Catholics really believed Jesus was truly present at every Mass we would live and treat our liturgy drastically differently. Matt and Bishop McCaig discuss how we can become numb to and lose reverence for the fact that Jesus is truly ALIVE and present in the eucharist at every valid celebration of the Mass.

I attended the funeral of my uncle this past weekend. He was a Navy veteran and there were two sailors at the funeral who performed a flag presentation for my aunt. The two sailors folded, touched, and presented the flag with such care, reverence and formality. The whole ceremony was profound and all I could think was... what a tragedy that the Holy Eucharist isn't handled with half the reverence that this flag is handled.

    • @rtyria
      @rtyria 2 ปีที่แล้ว +61

I grew up in the Navy, I have often seen this flag ceremony. Every time the flag is handled, it is handled with reverence for what it represents. We were all taught the importance of respecting the flag and disrespecting it was unthinkable. I know exactly what you mean. That same care needs to be instilled in all Catholics regarding the Eucharist, not as a symbol of God, but truly God.

@@warrenoleary7172 Who says that receiving Our Lord on the tongue is the only worthy way of receiving? To clarify my terms more carefully, when I say unworthy, I mean that the practice is inherently harmful to souls. I'm not trying to start a heated debate, here. I'm actually on your side. I only receive Holy Communion kneeling and on the tongue now. But I would actually like to hear a good argument for the point being made. I'm aware of the dirty hands or "dirty paws" argument made by Dr. Taylor Marshall and several others, wherein lay people should not hold the Eucharist with their unconsecrated hands for Holy Communion. The issue with this point though is that there seems to be evidence from early Church history that at various intervals over the first nine centuries (after the Era of the Apostles) Holy Communion was administered on the hand. St. Thomas Aquinas admonitions against Holy Communion on the hand do not come into play until much later. I honestly believe that the Latin Rite of the Catholic Church instituted the practice on a prudential basis. I still think that basis is valid for the time we are currently living in, considering the common occurence of abuse and sacrilege in the US. Something to also take into account is current Church discipline regarding the matter. It seems like the Vatican has authorized the Catholic Church in the United States through the issuing of an indult, to allow lay persons approaching the altar rail for Holy Communion to receive our Blessed Lord on the hand. If it were unworthy to receive Holy Communion on the hand, why would the Church allow such a practice to continue uncorrected? Whether it was prudential for the practice of Holy Communion on the hand to be restored in the Latin Rite of the Catholic Church, is another matter entirely.

There are things that don't always make sense to us and that's perfectly fine. In spite of that, the Church does require us to accept as infallible Truths Dogmas and Doctrines of the faith. We may not understand or comprehend the Dogma or Doctrine in it's entirety. That's perfectly fine. But we must accept it, without any reservation. In His perfect timing, God will lift some of the veil of mystery that currently clouds our eyes. This is what faith is all about. It's a sure confidence in God's promises, which include realities we can't see with the naked eye.

As I listened to his Grace talking about the true presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, I had to stop this video one third of the way and rush to Church as I remembered that it was the eve of the 17th anniversary of the passing of my grandson of 2 years and 8 months. He was sick and admitted in hospital and I remember from 3.00am that Sunday morning, he started asking/begging me to take him to Church because he wanted to see his Jesus. He passed on the next day. When he was well, whenever we were at Church, he'd be very attentive and at certain parts of the Mass, he'd point to the priest and whisper, "Jesus is talking," and would insist if I said "Father is talking." He'd remind us every Sunday (when the Church bell rang) to get ready and go to Church, in his words, "I want to see my Jesus." He would ensure we went into the Church when we got there, even if it was full. He'd point to the Altar saying, "Jesus is there." He'd also say my sister's late teenage son was there too. Sometimes during Communion, he'd ask me to take him to receive communion and when I told him he couldn't, he'd ask, "Why?" and I'd reply, "You'll understand when you grow up." He showed so much reverence to holy images and would get very anxious if any of these (even Christmas decorations of angels) fell on to the floor, ensuring that I put them back properly. He often carried around the little statue of the Sacred Heart in the house and would pay homage whenever the statues of our Lady of Fatima and our Lady of the Sacred Heart were brought to our home in May and October and during the recitation of the Rosary he'd behave and concentrate very well. During our daily living, he'd often call out all our names and say, "Pray, go heaven" or "Pray, go Jesus." I couldn't comprehend how a child, not within the age of reason, would have so much knowledge, reverence and love for Jesus, our Lady and heavenly beings. The faith of this toddler has (since his passing) cemented my belief that Christ is truly alive in the Eucharist and is present in the tabernacle. And that at Mass, heaven and earth come together at the Altar in worship of the Lamb (reaffirmed in books by Dr Scott Hahn and other Catholic writers and sources).

Too bad your family was not raised in one of the Eastern Catholic Churches. By tradition, the infants receive all three sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist). Thereafter they can and are encouraged to receive the Eucharist at any Divine or Pre-sanctified Liturgy. As infants, they will receive in the species of the blood and after they can handle solids they receive both species. Perhaps your grandson mystically knew that his peers were able to fully participate in the Liturgy.

Their guilt overwhelms them and may it lead to the conviction to change and accept communion with a heart like a begging recipient of mercy. Denial of communion is akin to self flagellation. Not helpful to anyone and possibly sinful. Change before you did as you will certainly die and your sin rushes you to death sooner than later.

I thought if people truly believed the Eucharistic was the body of Christ there would not be anything else they would want or need to come back. They would do everything to get to Mass, but they don't believe so coming isn't a priority or something they think is necessary.

I always make it a point to say to myself when the priest is consecrating the Eucharist, "I believe, I believe, I believe it's really you, Christ" I say it three times because of the Trinity and because so many people will be receiving Christ and not believing in the true presense.

@@alexanderbrown2717 first I’m going to try and be as nice as I can but you won’t want to accept it. Second there are more Protestant preachers coming and converting to Catholicism than ever before. They all say it’s like their eyes were opened to the whole truth via the Holy Spirit. Not by man convincing them. If you are a true believer in God and Christ’s message there is no need to be convinced of anything.
I do read my Bible everyday at least once a day and pray all the time. There is a huge difference in knowing ABOUT Jesus and knowing Him as a friend outside of a book. Most people (Protestant s) say that they do when really they are just lying to themselves.
Now the Protestant “Christians” do sola scriptoria (Bible alone) but your actually missing 7 of the most important books so you don’t even have the whole truth. You guys think your “saving” us Catholics from damnation when really leading even one of Jesus’ little ones astray well as it says woe to man.
Now I think it’s great that you can quote the Bible. But I can assure you that won’t be on the test when you stand before Him. No brownie points I’m afraid.
The reason you don’t understand the difference between Protestants and Catholics is cuz you simply believe in heresy.
Jesus left 3 commands besides the 10.
1)You worship God and God alone.
2)Love one another as they (the Trinity) love us
      And very importantly
3)You mus consume My Body and Blood to have eternal life within you.
He did not mince words there even when people turned away from Him in John 6. He had at least 12 other words He could have used to say oh it’s only a symbol but He didn’t. Also at the last supper while instituting the Most Holy Eucharist. His words matter He says this IS My Body and My Blood. Once again not this is a symbol rather it IS.
When the bread and wine are consecrated only by a Catholic priest does the Holy Spirit changes it into the Body and Blood of Christ. There have been numerous times where this has been scientifically proven. And not by just the Vatican but from non Catholic researchers. Look up Eucharistic Miracles.
Also if all it took and I mean the bare minimum is to just believe in His name and absolutely nothing else. That’s incorrect even satan believes in His name. However the last I checked satan does not have access to heaven unless you know something I don’t.
When Martin Luther split from the Church he knew full well he was sending generations into spiritual death and he didn’t even care. Yet all Protestant don’t have access to the true Body and Blood of Christ. At least I’ve never seen a cracker and grape juice change have you?
Also notice the very word “protest ant” looking at it that way also shows the protest of peoples and what is protested is the words of Christ and His Church.
Martian Luther threw out those 7 book cuz they were to Catholic. He knew no one would follow him if he had not done so. One of the most important books was the book of Wisdom. Tell me how can anyone know and teach the wisdom of God without the book? Man I could go on and on with examples but I need some sleep so I can go to mass. It’s the highlight of my very life. So I leave you with 2 thoughts. 1)What makes the Most Holy Catholic Church and Protestants different among many other things?
      THE HOLY EUCHARIST
2)You were lead to a Catholic video to start this conversation in the first place. Think abt it God lead you here!!! So answer Him with a clear mind heart and soul. Not by what the world tells you but by what God has shown you today!!!
      God bless

45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.
I didn’t see them drink grape juice or eat bread did you. They must not be saved then?
Next point. The Eunuch asked Philip how to be saved. Let’s see if we see any grape juice and bread.
      Acts 8 KJV
36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

Just letting you know, nothing that has not been blessed to hold the Eucharist can touch it, only a priests hands can hold it. I’m sorry, maybe your wife was humbled, but there is no such thing as lay ‘Eucharistic ministers’ my parents fell into that trap years ago and now we go to the Traditional Latin Mass where things are taken seriously in regards to the Eucharist and we no longer attend the Novus Ordo Mass we went to. How could anyone receive the body of our Lord by touching it with their hands first, no, it MUST be given to you on the tongue while on your knees with a PRIEST giving the Eucharist to you. The modern church is progressively desensitizing you by allowing women and lay people for example , to be ‘ Eucharistic ministers ‘ and ‘ alter girls’so that one day the poison and error of Russias error , Feminism ( mentioned in the Fatima prophecy) will be engrained so deep in lukewarm churches and dioceses specific to Novus Ordo especially, that there will be priest against priest, bishop against bishop, women claiming to be ‘catholic’ priests and bishops within our own Church. Even Padre Pio knew it was coming…if reading this doesn’t change the fact that you and your wife distribute communion and you say nothing to correct it or speak up against it, go to a Traditional Latin mass Catholic Church instead , and pray so that our lord may not be disrespected and literally trampled on as lay people carelessly accept communion in their hands, letting particles fall on the floor as they touch it with their hands and bring it to their mouths. Take this and know I’m telling you the truth, coming from someone who once was an ‘alter girl’ (which is false, they should ONLYbe boys) to say otherwise goes against church teaching, and if by reading this you don’t change your ways and stop yourself and your wife and don’t tell your bishop and priest in your diocese that this is wrong and take this warning seriously… You’ll answer to God when you die, you better hope you start thinking of an excuse for that moment, but you will never come up with a justified reason because the whole thing you’re doing is going against fundamental church teaching, and you don’t even know it which is the sad part…

So true we give more reverence to a first class relic . I saw that in visiting traveling relics. The relics were presented on the altar off to one side of the tabernacle. And some did not give reverence to Jesus in the tabernacle before venerating the relic. I was so uncomfortable. I read about different families that had chapels in their house or on their property and how holy those families became because of the Eucharistic presence so close. But it is a HUGE responsibility. I don’t know if I could do it . Monasteries and Cloisters that house Our Lord are blessed.

@@julio7656 I’ll clarify. The video is great. The Eucharist is a miracle.
The title of the video leads Catholics to believe that something like a “Eucharistic miracle” or manifestation has happened recently.
      There is a difference.

What we need to realize remember and embody is that our Lord Jesus live simultaneously both figuratively and literally! Similarly we live a life that is symbolic.
