I was the designer for Mattel's Hannah Montana dolls. I specifically picked the Diva head to serve as Lily/Lola. I love that doll head! She looks very smart-aleck-y to me and that's why I like it. Thanks for mentioning her here.

I think I like the BMR fashion more as individual pieces more than the whole outfits. Like the bucket hat, the pants, and even the shirt could go really well with other items of clothing rather than mish-mashing them all together to make this abomination of an outfit. Same with most of the other bmr fashion doll outfits. Great video!

I'm so please to find out that I'm not the only one to find BMR 1959 fashion look absolutely ghastly... I love the dolls and the innovative characters moulds but what they are wearing as always put me off collecting them. Love this review BTW.

I hope you'll do more of these All About: segment, loving it. I'd like to nominate the 2005 Barbie sculpt(according to Kattis Dolls), she replaced GG as the default Barbie till the latter made a comeback with the articulated Fashionistas line. I don't think the sculpt was ever used in anything else.

I'm excited about these series! Will you make a video about Kira facemold? She used to be my least favourite among Barbie's friends. I always felt like she got double chin until my instagram friend told me it's all because of bad screening, sometimes lips are printed above where they supposed to be so it makes her looking double-chined and weird. With a good print and nice make-up she looks beautiful!

I really love this video!!! I’m just fascinated, by the knowledge of the different face sculpts, that some people have. I much prefer Midge, with the Steffie face, she has, in Life in the Dream House. Ugh....that BMR line....many of the fashion was a hot MESS!!! That’s why I couldn’t pay $30 for them. Even $20 is pushing it, since i only want the MTM body. Looking forward to watching your series.

I loved this video! Great job with the background and videos. Fun research. Now that you said it. I didn’t like this face sculpt and I remember having that rocker doll. While a majority of my dolls were blonde I am glad to see how the line has diversified. While this face sculpt is not my favorite… the treatment the Native American doll using this face sculpt is the best. Her buckskin dress is lovey and reminds me of the Cherokee tribe. I loved the Navajo Barbie. My best friend he is from that tribe and is gorgeous. I passed on this BMR but got the man bun ken and he was a favorite.

Thanks for your review of the Diva head sculpt. I had no idea that Mattel hadn't used it in so long. I really like Diva head sculpt. I really like her in BMR 1959. I really liked the BMR 1959 dolls. I didn't usually like their complete look, but I loved the actual dolls and I loved the quality of their pieces. I'm a big fan of the bucket hat on BMR 1959 Diva too. I'm looking forward to you reviewing other head sculpts.

I love Diva sculpt, but I know many people don´t like it. For me the first doll with that sculpt I have seen in my life, had to be Jewel Mermaid Hair Midge. I have her, 1998 Native American Barbie, Chinese Empress, Lily/Lola, Basics 1.0 model 9, Speed Racer Trixie, Palm Beach Midge, pregnant Midge second edition and of course BMR1959 one. I think you could make video about Nichelle 1990 sculpt which Mattel also uses very rarely, like between 2002 and 2012 there was no doll with it until Louisiana University AA Barbie was released then there was another pause between 2012 and 2020 until Carlyle used it for Basquiat Barbie. And also like many people are commenting here, Kira and Christie 1987 would be also perfect for this series, there were huge time gaps when Mattel didn´t use them, for Christie from 1999 to 2013 and for Kira from 2001 to 2015. But I think for Kira it would be ideal to wait for release of Holiday 2021 doll with it. :)

What a great review! When I was a kid and collected Barbies (late 80s-late 90s), my dream was to have a Midge doll, but I never got her. I always enjoyed her face, but not enough to pass up a Superstar Barbie, Teresa, Christie, or Kira. 🤣 And then when the Generation Girl dolls came out, I mean, yeah she just always ended up last on my list. A couple of weekends ago, I was at the flea market, and I found an original 1980s Diva for 2 dollars! Finally own her. Also purchased the BMR1959 version but took her out of those hideous clothes. Anyway, great timing on this video! Keep posting this awesome content. Much appreciated!

(as someone who was a kid back then who adored Jem dolls, I'm of the opinion that Jem's weird size was a big--heh--part of why they failed, but even more so was the way Hasbro released the huge amount of core characters with each wave...but...fans already had the dolls of those characters, so there was no need to buy them again, meaning they sat on the shelves while the much smaller number of new characters sold, and somebody at Hasbro realized that was unsustainable. Which was why I was impressed that Mattel figured out how to deal with a huge amount of core characters + ever expanding assortment of new characters with Monster High...by...just..._not_ releasing every core character in every wave of dolls. The way the characters were so strongly portrayed and interconnected in the Jem cartoon meant that would have been really really weird to have done with those. So. I know I'm in the minority saying it, but I think Jem was doomed to self destruct from the start _entirely_ because the cartoon was such an integral part of selling the dolls. Barbie & The Rockers didn't help, but I can't imagine Hasbro continuing to release ten unsellable-because-kids-aleady-had-them dolls for every wave with maybe five new additional characters. I mean, as much as I loved the designs of the second wave, the only one I bought the second version of was Shana, because my first Shana's neck peg broke...)

Yeah that was the way I remember of how it played out. Lots of Jems and Friends sitting around on store shelves. Same thing happened to Darci, as you mentioned and as I have said before on Flickr. By this time lots of folks were passing down their Barbies and clothes to younger family or friends, clothes that were too small for Jem and Darci alas.

I had high hopes for the BMR dolls but after seeing reviews and unboxings, the only one I wanted was the one you showed in your video. Never got her, can't say I feel the FOMO. She's really cute but I thought all their outfits were over the top, tryin' too hard, doin' too much. I believe the hair that the '90s Pocahontas dolls use was kanekalon. It's much lighter and feathery, and was very commonly used for dolls that have a very straight hair. Kanekalon does tend to tangle easily if not taking care of, so I'm not surprised that the 90s Pocahontas dolls you came across had ratty hair.

Much later I got a diva though and removed her eyeshadow which really made her lovely, even if her eyebrows where a bit high up because of that eyeshadow. I think that calling an artist's job "garbage" is a little harsh... I understand you didn't like the pieces but you should've chosen a better word that's not as strong as that one 😞

Carlyle has created some absolutely amazing designs for Barbie, but “garbage” was in fact the nicest way I could describe his designs for BMR1959.
