Saw them at Barbarrelas in Birmingham when Serpents cam out they were amazing, so underated. But I was right at the fron and watched Mike Kellie all night, there and then decided I was going to play drums and have ever since! He was so goood!!
Of course they did television is one of the great bands of our times but the the only ones are the only ones. Every woman I play them to loves them after only one listen. Only joy division and magazine are equal
I saw them at the Longhorn, in Minneaoplis, in the late 70's or possibly very early 80's. They were great, but so fucking LOUD, that my ears rang for 2 days afterward. I remember thinking that it made the songs sound different, in a freaky way.
Saw them at the Leeds Sci-Fi Festival 1979 ( no idea why it was called that ) and they were by far one of the two best bands on over two days, the other being Joy Division. I had friends playing in two bands and most of the crop of what are now called post punk bands played. Dismal hall, zero facilities, people slept on a concrete floor.
Sci-Fi festival? Not quite. This was the Leeds Futurama Festival of 1979, held at the Queens Hall of all places. Hawkwind were there, Echo & the Bunnymen, Joy Division, Public Image, Scritti Politti, many more. The Only Ones came on not long after The Fall and just before The Teardrop Explodes - the last to play on that Sunday., September 9th.
@@peterfreeman6677 It was billed as the Sci-Fi Festival, check the poster. I was there, went up with pragVEC in a van and we broke down just outside Leeds, had to push it the last few miles. Hawkwind were on the bill but did not turn up. I have photos, it was a dump, but quite full.
I saw them at the Roundhouse in early 78 supporting Generation X, when a group of skinheads thought it would be funny to start fights all night (wankers), the OOs were great and sadly underrated but Peter has been reincarnated now, class always tells in the end !

Saw them supporting Television at Newcastle City Hall in early 1978 - what a bill eh? The Only Ones blew Television away that night!

The Only Ones are party rockers, I'm not surprised. Incredibly fun music with a unique voice.

John Perry has said that he thinks the Peel sessions are the closest to what the band is about.

When i attend concerts I wear ear plugs. It actually helps the sound and it definitely saves your ears.
