A wonderful song from a period when there were so many bands putting out amazing tunes. I've loved this since it came out, and happily have it on the original 7" single :D Of course, you have to interpret the lyrics regarding Peter's relationship with heroin at the time.
Only Ones existed from 1976-1982 and had a reunion from 2007-2017. Especially the singer Peter Perrett and the drummer Mike Kellie looked like they have had a hard life. Kellie died in 2017. RIP
Over the years Perrett has changed his interpretation of the song ten times over. Yet if you delve into. the lyrics of the other songs he wrote in that era, that leaves little to the imagination.
@@timcarr6381 I just meant it's not a warts and all portrayal of his drug addiction and how it's fucked his life up and killed his friends. It's a sweet love song to heroin. A bit like Iggy Pop & David Bowie singing "China Girl"... or The Stranglers "Golden Brown"... or Blur "Beetlebum"... or The La's "There She Goes"...
@@carlmarks8170 wasn't Golden Brown, Dave Greenfields celebration of red Moroccan (dope)? I think the Stranglers venture into smack, was Hugh Cornwell sitting in a French prison cell, penning the song 'Don' t bring Harry', which is absolutely appalling, but Jean Jacques Burnell insisted on recording, just to remind Cornwell on how he was flushing away his life.
One of the best intros to a song, ever….
I love this song… it’s close to perfect in structure, instrumentation and lyrics. And the drawl in the vocal delivery 🌈
Absolute classic

BUT…Peter explains that a girl inspired it. (Despite his H habit.)

One of my favorite pop songs !
An absolute fave!!!
Mike Kellie ❤❤❤❤ Wow!!!! The song is probably about narcotics.
Like Perfect Day by Lou Reed, a song about heroin. Would easily have fitted into the soundtrack of Trainspotting.
This song is about heroin addiction.
Kinda, but not really... It's a love song... and his girlfriend is heroin.
