This song won a prize enabling The SiXsters to attend the Anti Corruption Conference in Vilnius Lithuania recently. They were laughing about how all the people in business attire were looking at them like What are these kids doing in here (they were wearing their usual clothes). The concert part was held in an old prison with a couple of other bands. They had a very fun time for the whole trip.
This Ukrainian band is amazing! They are very quickly became my #2 favorite band right after my favorite band Band Maid! Thanks for your reaction and keep checking this band out, I guarantee you will enjoy it. The Sixsters are sooooo good!!!
Yes, it was 2018 the band was formed. The drummer Katya had a YT channel (still there) since she was 7 years old, when she was 9 she wanted to be in her own band, so her dad advertised for talented young girls to create a band, there was a little flux in line-up during the first few months, then a core of 6 girls became The Sixsters. By the end of 2018 they were 7 members as the youngest, bass player Taya who was 7, couldn't make all the gigs as she lives close to the Polish border, the rest were in or around Kiev, so a second bass player was recruited and they shared playing time. At that time they were Katya (drums) Taya and Kira P (Bass), Maya (keys), Alona (rhythm guitar), Ira (Lead Guitar) and Kira K (Lead Vocals). This line-up stayed until 2020, when current guitarist/vocalist Maria replaced Alona at the end of the year and current lead guitar Anna replaced Ira about 6 months later. They have a great live concert video from November 2021, over an hour long. They had their big break in that they were to support a well known Ukrainian Rock band on a stadium tour in the summer of 2022, unfortunately their Country was invaded in Feb 2022, so it never happened. They made a protest song called Pravda (Truth) in the days after the invasion, then within a few weeks, Katya's home, where they also had their practice studio was destroyed in the bombing. Most of the girls families fled to Germany, Switzerland and Spain, except Taya who was far from the front. Five months after the invasion 5 of the girls met up in Germany and resumed the band, Kira K the lead vocalist didn't return, so Maria took over lead vocals. Katya, Kira P, Maya, Anna and Maria made two videos, then Kira P's family returned to Ukraine taking Kira with them, she was replaced by Polina on bass, then last August (2023), Maya's family returned. Sofia has taken her place, both Polina and Sofia are also Ukrainian. In this video were Katya, Polina, Maya, Anna and Maria.
New subscriber for The Sixsters! 😀 After a couple of decades of not really being impressed by anything I was hearing, I discovered The Warning and was blown away. I didn't think that would ever happen again, but when watching a reaction I saw the name of The Sixsters pop up, and thought, hey, why not check them out? After two songs I was completely pulled down into the rabbithole by their incredible story of survival and perseverance in their art despite the hardship of war, and of course, by their music. The Warning are incredible for what they do, but The Sixsters write and play in a wide range of genres, to the point you might not recognize them as the same band. They deliver each song with heart, excellent musicianship, and great creativity, Maria's voice adapting beautifully to everything from punk, hard rock, to heartbreaking ballads. In this video their ages run from 14 to 17, except for Anna, the lead player, who was 20. They are starting to play to big crowds in Europe, and the addictive quality of their music is making many new fans. You'll be hearing about this band, mark my words.
