I loved your video. I miss those beautiful mountains! We lived in Albuquerque for 13 years. A friend of mine and I traversed the Sandias in one day (on the summer solstice), about 25 years ago. That hike was one of the hardest things I have ever done. We hiked from the North to the South, and finished right at sunset. We live in NV now, but Albuquerque and the Sandias hold a special place in my heart! 🌄❤
Great video of this beautiful mountain range. I've always wanted to do this same trip. So far, I've only done overnighters in the Sandias but will definitely add a multi-day trip to my list. I actually camped recently at your day 2 camp, awesome spot. Thanks for sharing.
That is a great spot to camp! I am glad we took 2 nights - anything less would have been a suffer-fest. We went the second weekend in June, and, if we were to do it over again, we would go a few weeks earlier or sometime in the fall when the highs were in the 70s or low 80s at most (and get the fall colors!). Also, if we do it over again, I think we would cache water 5 miles in, then 5 miles south of the crest, then near campsite 2. Because of all that prep work you really have to be committed! Glad you enjoyed the video. :)
Loved the video! I have been thinking about this hike for quite some time and have struggled with planning around the lack of water sources as well. I always planned on doing it as a 2-day trip and refilling at the Crest House and/or the top of the Tram.
Thank you! I have friends who did it in two days and refilled at the crest house - definitely possible but not easy! Good luck and I would love to hear how it goes!

Wow I can't imagine doing that hike on one day!! I am glad to bring back good memories for you 🙂
It's been a while since I have been up there. I always loved the sunsets.
We do have great sunrises and sunsets! I am glad you enjoyed it!
