I just replayed this video earlier tonight and it helped me solve a very vexing problem trying to link a new Motion Sensor to Alexa. The Alexa Routine was set up properly and YoLink correctly reported Motion Detected in YoLink and Alexa allowed me to include the YoLink Sensor in a Routine but refused to execute it! After exhausting all possibilities I could think of, I looked up and replayed this video…and when I got to about 22:10 in the video, when you said sometimes it was better to Disable and re-Enable the YoLink Skill in Alexa in order to make the link to Alexa pick up newly added YoLink devices, I thought "Wow that's something I never knew about!" and I tried it and Bingo! Alexa immediately found the new YoLink Sensor and began executing its Routine! Ended a lot of frustration and restored my faith in the YoLink system working smoothly with Alexa. And YOU continue to be The Last Word and Final Authority in my book! Thank you once again!

Hi utuber1000, yeah I got some flack about showing people to add devices in this way. They all said you just need to have Alexa "discover new devices"....but sometimes Alexa didn't discover them. If you do it this way, I found Alexa will discover them 100% of the time! Thank you for your comment. -Todd

Very helpful. We don't have a smart home setup yet, but I recently installed a YoLink gate sensor and was so impressed with it I just ordered 2 more gate sensors for our other gates and 6 of the door sensors. We will likely get a Nest setup sometime in the future, but for now just being able to monitor things through the YoLink app is pretty awesome!

I decided I want to get some door sensors to turn on the lights in my living room with Alexa if I come in through the kitchen when it's dark, but I was hoping I could get away without having to buy a hub. It seems like all the door sensors that are worth having require a hub. I was mostly deterred because the hubs are usually a little pricey, but the yolink hub is reasonably cheap, especially if you buy it bundled with a door sensor, so I think it's a pretty decent deal. Glad I found this video!
My only concern is the way my doors are installed. The living room door doesn't have much of a recess, so it should work fine with one part on the door and the other part on the trim. The kitchen door, on the other hand, is recessed by about 3/4" and will require some work to get everything to line up. I'm thinking I can get a 3/4" thick piece of wood to screw to the door and make sensor parts line up. Hopefully everything works as expected!

Hey Marc, GREAT Question . . . the simple answer is, it doesn't matter. I too would not want any extra hubs. But if it's cost, the hub is around $22 and almost free if you get a kit. as far as space or open ports on a router type issues, yeah, but I tell people don't think of it as something extra you have to get, but that having the Hub opens you up to a growing ecosystem of great products. Don't forget, crazy-long range, long battery life, devices not on directly on the internet and not on your WiFi. And YoLink "Control" a generically-named but powerful device-to-device protocol that allows for pairing one or more devices to one or more other devices, for functionality without internet and even without power (battery powered devices, of course). sorry about being sales pitchy. but this is valid info when making a purchase decision on any smart home product.

The YoLink Motion Sensor I set up yesterday controls a ThirdReality mechanical plate which flips the standard wall switch on and off by my Echo 4th Gen zigbee. No electrical re-wiring which I choose to avoid due to my age and a remotely located breaker box. So yes, you can avoid changing wall switches if you prefer.
And I also avoided re-wiring to open and close my garage door with the YoLink "Finger" - a clever button-pusher. I'm just a satisfied customer by the way.

I deploy both motions and door sensors for most lighting control applications. my own garage has a door sensor trigger the lights on, the motion also triggers them on but is used as an occupancy sensor to lengthen the duration. my door-opening automation turns the lights on only briefly, as it's typically a kid grabbing a popsicle out of the freezer. the motion, which is set just barely out of this pathway, has a longer duration of light activation. I also use the No-Motion trigger to start a Delay function that will turn the lights on after a set period, I forget what it is. I can also in the app us a light turning on to start an automation. this could be but it not used here. this is a great feature for closet lights, for the kids, really. I have no motions in the closets, but I do turn the lights off after 10 minutes after being turned on.
