The requirements required use of a SINGLE 900hp engine. Formally the FW 189 did NOT comply with requirements. The BV 141 did and it and it flew very well. The Reichsluftfahrtministerium (RLM/German Aviation Ministry) was in General conservative and recoiled at the idea of having an asymmetric aircraft and rejected the BV 141 based on feelings rather than performance. With the performance of the AR 198 being disappointing they defaulted to the FW 189 despite it not complying with requirements. However, Luftwaffe Colonel-General (Generaloberst) Ernst Udet - a pilot and WWI-ace himself - was impressed with the design of the BV 141 and managed to get allowance to get a limited production run started of 26 units.
Another good one and yet another interesting and little known/covered aircraft. Keep up the good work and more of these oddball aircraft please. And congrats on hitting 900 subs, at this rate you should be getting you 100,000 sub playbutton award button from TH-cam in a year or two with a bit of luck.
need to do away with the AI voice however I'm always pleased to learn something new....in this case I didn't know the FW 189 was used as early as the France Campaign
Sorry about the voice, I find it 100% better than my own however. I tried to read the scripts but not only did I sound terrible but I flubbed so badly it would take me 4 days to read 4 pages. If I monetise well I will pay for a real person to do the voice overs
It is nice that you are highlighting such lesser known aircraft.
Kurt Tank was a Genius
Amazingly clever designer.
A great video. Cheers
Glad you enjoyed it.
Well presented. No fluff. No fact errors.
Thank you. I'm calling "mission accomplished" 👍😁
This thing is absolutely hilarious to use in enlisted and war thunder. You may be slow but you can outmaneuver anything in your battle rating

Great info Roy thanks. I usually post my next aircraft in comments if you have great background like that. Next up the bomarang.
@@Aircraft_Files Ah, the Ozzie Buffalo😜
I like the "panic fighter" moniker. Enjoying the research.

Cheers grumpy. Bomarang up next.
Fully agree
@@Aircraft_Files Now that is an interesting choice.👌
at 5:40 the VIP was 'Smiling Albert' Kesselring one of the greatest defensive Field Marshals of the war.
Well worth the watch 👍
Very glad you enjoyed it.
A delicately beautiful design.
Great video 👍
great video
Thank you
My pleasure. :-)
‘Smiling Albert’ (Kesselring) @5.35. 😀
Another WWII aircraft I wish we had kept around.
Correct!❤
It reminds me alot of the OV-10 Bronco
How is this not a redesigned Fokker G1 . The resemblance from everything aft of the wing being remarkable
Very similar.
Interesting airplane designed by a Tank.
Hopefully the Flying Heritage Collections 189 will be finished into a flyer after restoration is completed.
Which came first: this one or the P38?
P-38 first flight 27 January 1939 - the Fw 189 in July 1938. But the Dutch Fokker G.I in March 1937, But the Caproni Ca.1 in 1914...
Nice concept, now put some more powerful engines in it and streamline the main fuselage and you have a P-38 lighting!
need to do away with the AI voice

Certainly looks as though it would be acrobatic .
Somehow unconventional, but effective
Thought i got you to 900. Stll worth it though
Someone just did Betty. Happy to give you the credit 👍😁
