I mean the only reason it's on modern Xbox's is the compatibility to the Xbox 360 version which were upgraded by the backwards compatible team themselves.
Well... They (to me at least) finally finished making the engine by the time Lightning Returns launched, only to be scraped completely when the next game (FF15) come out. And 15 was like yet another glorified tech demo because they kinda failed to make the world feel big. Maybe 16 would be better? Or maybe it's scaled back because they weren't able to make open world a good enough experience (as they even dropped the term "open world" despite it sounded like the game would actually be bigger than 15)?
@@lightbetweendarkness6571 Well, you can say that FF15 isn't one either (for you really only get 1 larger than normal map that still isn't that large to begin with). With "4 large areas to explore" I doubt FF16 would have a smaller world than FF15, and my guess is that Yoshida simply doesn't consider it open world enough to suffice such descripion.
When XIII-2 was brought over to Xbox One back compat in late 2018, Microsoft relisted the Assassin's Creed & Mass Effect crossover DLCs, possibly by accident if it wasn't Square or Microsoft renewing the licenses with EA & Ubisoft with Square for them. Mechanic wise XIII-2 was a better XIII and LR was its own thing and is still ahead of time nowadays. But story wise they are really one single story that any part of it can't be missed, so I personally wouldn't rank them by their stories.
I originally finished the trilogy via the PS3 versions. When I found out about the Xbox Enhanced patches, I decided to collect the physical 360 versions as well. If I do another playthrough, I may consider playing on Xbox Series X. I still have my PS3 saves, so I may revisit there first for end game content.

Circling back, and apologies if it's already been asked, but are the fixes here still functional for PC-STEAM? Because I followed the instructions just for 13 and still could not get the game to launch past that initial graphics lunacher.
@@aegisreflector1239 so i updated my proton QT to the lasted version 7.37 and it works much better than it did. It is playable whereas before it was unbearable. So now it's some minor studders here and there but at least you can run, jump, battle without much problems
These ports are 100% legit with the FF13fix. Honestly can't believe how well they run. Constant 60fps and almost no input lag if you turn on Low Latency mode in the Nvidia control panel(which to me is the biggest flaw on XB1/XSX). This is on a Ryzen 5 with a GTX 970 BTW. So if you can't get a locked 60 on a 3060 I'm pretty sure you're doing something wrong.
I would be interested in seeing deep dives like this including performance on the Steam Deck. And I actually do have some justification for that beyond "I really like my Steam Deck." I've been playing through 13, and as I have both a Steam Deck and mid range gaming PC, and I have been casually comparing how it runs on both systems. Something I've noticed is that the game seems pretty stable at 30FPS on my Steam Deck (turn on the frame cap on the Steam Deck and set it to 30 as the constant jumping between 30FPS in battles and 60FPS in menus is super distracting), but if I use FF13Fix with it, it's a stuttering mess. And yet the opposite is true for my gaming PC. It's a mess without the fan patch, but with it it's a solid experience. What I'm getting at is because it is running through a translation layer (Proton) the performance in games will be different in different ways. Another example that shows this is Fallout New Vegas. I wouldn't dare dream of playing it on a modern PC without patching it to hell and back JUST to stop it from crashing. On my Steam Deck? Runs PERFECTLY with no mods (and actually becomes less stable with mods, though let's be honest, that's going to be true for a lot of games on any platform). Add on top that I personally think that the Steam Deck, more specifically the compatibility layer Proton, will see a lot of use in the coming years, so I imagine that there will be some games that run better through Proton, and some that run better natively.
Man watching this makes me wanna go back & play these FF games. I actually loved FFXIII & got the Platinum Trophy for it, never really got a chance to play FFXIII-2 & FFXIII Lightning Returns. Wish SONY would add these titles to the new PS+ or even do a remaster for the PS4 or PS5.
The funny thing is the first FF XIII was released with no UI to change any graphics. From what I heard, it was about the only major change Square ever did with the release. The pc release of Nier: Automata was similar. The steam version was released buggy that the fans fixed. Much later a version for the Microsft store was released in a better state. The difference being, fans of Nier: Automata complained enough, I believe via review bombing, to get the steam version updated. I am not sure why it never happened here. My best speculation is less fan backlash. Ff XIII had more time between releases and more people liked Nier: Automata, or less people criticized it online. I never really played any of them, so I am unsure how they run.
Unfortunately my Steam Region is Asia my FFXIII copy doesnt have dual audio with only english subtitles. The Audio is low bitrate. I have to find a copy with Dual Audio and mix it in to my FF13's Steam Folder.
I am a huge Final Fantasy XIII Trilogy fan. I have beaten Final Fantasy XIII twice on PS3 and once on Steam. I have also beaten Final Fantasy XIII-2 twice for PS3 and once on Steam. I have gotten to Chapter 11 in Final Fantasy XIII on the Xbox Series X. I am currently playing Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII on Steam.
I bought the trilogy on PS3 when it first released and bought the soundtracks for all three games. Don't care for the higher resolutions beyond 1080p but I enjoyed each of these games despite the critics. Hopefully one day they will be remastered for the PS5 but I can enjoy the PS3 versions just fine as they are.
Wow, Squenix really went the extra mile with Xbox Backwards Compatibility versions! What is astonishing me the most is the fact, they put in the effort to exchange the compressed 360 cutscenes with highres render videos! Wished that was the case for Metal Gear Rising as well: cutscenes on Series X still are extremely low-res compared to PS3 version (PS3 games shipped on Blu-ray while 360 still had a DVD drive)
ok, wtf were they doing with the xbox version that casued the 576 resulution to look so amazing??? I played it on a 40" TV. Even when I tried replaying it 5 years ago I still thought it looked amazing. Just got the game for pc last week and playing an my steam deck. still think the game looks great but I thought it was due to the tiny screen...
The hate is unfounded. XIII has its problems, like the confusing writing, but it's not as bad as people made it out to be. I really enjoyed XIII-2 and Lighting Returns. Especially LR which I think is one of the best adventure games I ever played. I have them all on PS3 but I don't have their DLC unfortunately.
This was one game that just didn't feel like it belong ps3 and 360. The visuals are so stunning, I would compare it to final fanatsy 7, with or without mods.
Too bad SE does not like making too much $$$ with the Series X treatment on all 3 games with all dlc and package it as a remaster, and they could sell it on all systems for $70.
As nice as 13 is on PC with mods, I could not get over the audio quality issues. Even with mods installed to "fix" the sound/music it still just doesnt feel nice and I had many issues with voices being too quiet and cutscenes being too quiet. With how important the music and sound is in this game, im looking to play the ps3 version next
sadly all versions are lagging pretty much since i updated to Windows 11 (with ff13fix). Reinstalling the game didnt change my fps problems, on win 10 it ran at 60 fps with absolutely no problem. If anyone knows a fix, i would love to hear it
I started playing these games after Lightning Returns was about 2-3 years past release date. I didn’t have a PS3 but my brother gave me his 360, so I bought the games for that. So glad I did! Even though they stand out like a sore thumb on my FF shelf, at least I can play them on my Xbox One S or Series X and know it’s backwards compatible AND the best console version.
If you play it on old consoles, ps3 port is really a lot better from the xbox one. The frame drop issues were not really a big deal and visually it is way better from what Xbox provided.
BTW, accidently this video came out again while I was working today. Audio on PC better from console version is a joke. I literally have it both on PC and PS3 and sometimes I want to turn on the PS3 just because of the audio (ESPECIALLY DURING GAMEPLAY). I am with full Yamaha audio system and, trust me, PS3 have one of the best audio decoders out there (better from ps4, what a shame). Even with the current mod to replace cutscene audio with the ps3 files, still works better on ps3.
Wait... The 13 trilogy had Simplified Chinese? I kinda remember the PC version as only having Simplified Chinese through the use of fan translation mods, and that's even on top of the Asian language unlock patch. And like I don't think Square Enix bothered with putting Simplified Chinese in their games until FF14 was to be launched in mainland China. 13 was like, not much attention to detail on the Traditional Chinese translation really, so I doubt there was actually an official Simplified Chinese on top of that, unless I remembered wrong. (FF14 on the other hand, probably got the highest quality Chinese translation among all games.)
If only FF 13 Fix was getting updates but no. I found a really anoying bug with audio system which are not stereo (surround, 5.1, 7.1 etc etc) since the moment you launch FF 13-2 you can hear some buzzing noise which is really anoying..... You could fix it by running the game 13-2 in Windows 8 mode to fix it but it doesn't work when FF 13 Fix is installed. So in the end, i capped the framerate at 30 FPS for the first two games.
I am a lucky owner of XIII and XIII-2 chinese versions. I play on PC using steam but Microsoft Store version is better and it is the best version IMO but i already played hundreds of hours on steam so i won`t change now. Also, from my experience and friends reports, all three games runs better on weaker PCs (with the hardware that was intended to play) than modern hardwares, one of my friends couldn`t play the game using a ryzen 5 and a Rx580 because the frames were dropping too much and the games were closing out of nowhere.

a ffxiii trillogy collection for modern consoles would be great.
Xbox already did this lol
@@CORNAdonis Remasters would be appreciated as FF13 is 1728p 30 fps on Series X, and Lightning Returns have troubles maintaining 60 fps at 4K, forcing us to play at 720p to have a locked 60 fps.
Not to mention PS5 players can’t play them lol.
@@ThibautMahringer why would I want to rebuy this game yet again?
@@CORNAdonis Unless someone put pressure on you, for some weird reason, you're not forced to buy any remaster and remake.
These games could really benefit from improvements. I would get these personally, as I really like FF13 and would live for it to be released from its 360 visuals
@@ThibautMahringer Square Enix has already lost big money, they’re not doing anymore remakes or remasters especially for a game that was hated when it came out
So I need to tell you, that you are the most comparison video making guy I've been watching for months :)
I like it how the way you edit it :D
I just hope that one day Final Fantasy XIII is available for PS4 or PS5.
I mean the only reason it's on modern Xbox's is the compatibility to the Xbox 360 version which were upgraded by the backwards compatible team themselves.
also for the graphical engine, we should thank Crystal Tools, they did it remarkably well.
It's weird Square-Enix never made a remaster collection for the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy. They can do so and include all DLC for each of the games.
So, on Xbox, you CAN buy them new if you want them like I did.
They're listed but can't be bought though
@@TH-camCensors Huh. They must've fixed that. Always came off as an accidental thing when they added it to back compat. Oh well.
@@Scsigs yea, I'd buy the Mass effect Ones if I could. Mostly for Noel because while his shirt is good, his Potato sack pants from the 90s Always irked me.

Enjoyed the video quite a lot, thanks 💕
These vids are a godsend. It's hard to find reliable info about this sort of thing
I need final fantasy 13 to be remastered for PS4 or PS5. It is one of my favorite games of all time. Especially with the soundtrack.
Would be cool to have the trilogy collection for PS4 5 and Switch especially for people like me who didn't get to try them. Square doesn't wanna touch anything 13 now because of so many toxic people constantly shidin on the series, they figured why even rerelease them if no one wants them.
@@aegisreflector1239 dang man I hate that. I loved that game so much. I miss it.
@@aegisreflector1239 I would buy a FFXIII collection for Switch in a heartbeat lol
PC version with the fixes mod AND reshade really lets this games color SHINE folks. Give it a try if you have a halfway decent PC. It's so beautiful at a high FPS and amazing colors.
Insane how I literally just finished replaying LR last night on Xbox 360 and bought the PC port like two days ago and now this video pops up
FF13-2 on XSX at 60fps is niiiice.
You’re now 1 or 3 games away from covering every mainline Final Fantasy. (1 if just XV, or 3 if you also include XI and XIV)
To think on the ps5 as of now, you can play ALL mainline FF games expect 13.
I just looked at the backside of 13 and 13-2 and it says the resolution is 720p, 1080i and 1080p on PS3. So what does that mean?
that's the resolutions at which the game can be displayed depending on the screen you're playing on. 1080i means "interlaced scanning" which is a method of faking higher fps
I'm really thankfull for the modders comunity on PC, I use in almost every game and I just started playing the XIII on PC and with some problems (the eyebrow and stuttering issue), but with less than an hour installing mods I was able to play the game on ultrawide 1440p at 144fps and a plus for the texture mod.
Hopefully they get a remastered trilogy for next gen for an even more definitive experience
SquareEnix gotta release a Final Fantasy XIII Trilogy Remaster for PS5. I still haven't played 13-2 and LR
9:10 which fan translation? What do you mean?
Bought the steam versions a week and a half ago to replay them what perfect timing
How much were they?
@@jalalal8056 I think 13 was 6.99 and 13-2 as well as LR where both 7.99
I love the trilogy. In order I say XIII-2, LR, XIII but nonetheless they're my favorite games
Mechanic wise XIII-2 was a better XIII and LR was its own thing and is still ahead of time nowadays. But story wise they are really one single story that any part of it can't be missed, so I personally wouldn't rank them by their stories.
XIII-2 > XIII > LR
My rating on XIII Trilogy:
XIII > XIII-2 > LR
I originally finished the trilogy via the PS3 versions. When I found out about the Xbox Enhanced patches, I decided to collect the physical 360 versions as well. If I do another playthrough, I may consider playing on Xbox Series X.
I still have my PS3 saves, so I may revisit there first for end game content.
I just got a steam deck so I finally can replay these without having to drag the ps3 out of storage... Ive been enjoying myself so far. This game is a lot more beautiful than I remember... or could be the PC port tweaking for good graphics. It's been fun and I am trying to speed run it without knowing what lol.
My fave FF, thank you!
Sounds like the best way to go is Steam ff13 with mods, and 13-2 & LR on series x
Wait. Why should you keep your PC playthrough under 2 hours? Is this a crash issue? Also, I think in this unique case you should do a follow up video discussing PS3 emulation for these games. Just a thought.
XIII-2 drove me crazy with the portal travelling ... gave up eventually was too hard to keep track of gates opened/closed
Penguindrum icon 💯
Just beat ff13 finally after years of never beating it, didnt even think about getting mods for smoother experience.
I hadnt even noticed i had no enemy info! Just thought that screen was empty other than resistances.
Havent done the other 2 games, but in ffxiii-1 only other issue id see is Lightning hair flickering and fps drops top stages crystallarium + some battles
I always stick with the PS3 version myself but playing it on Xbox one X was great
I own all on ps3 but never played them yet. Should i buy all of them for xbox360 (physical collector) to play on the xbox one x or save money and ps3 is good enough?? Thanks for your opinion
@@scoped7reaper664 it depends on if you care about resolution or not. It looks nicer on Xbox One/Series X if you have a 4K tv.
Rumble is not working on steam version both ffxiii and-2.😢
Will you ever do which version should you play for FFXV? I love your videos btw!
Circling back, and apologies if it's already been asked, but are the fixes here still functional for PC-STEAM? Because I followed the instructions just for 13 and still could not get the game to launch past that initial graphics lunacher.
Just to clarify I was following the instructions in the github link
I wish 13-2 was playable on the steam deck. I tried many times to make it work, no matter what, i couldn't have it work without severe drops
Have you checked if other people have made it work?
@@aegisreflector1239 I've looked around. Bur i must say it really isn't a popular title so people haven't tried really hard at making it work
@@aegisreflector1239 so i updated my proton QT to the lasted version 7.37 and it works much better than it did. It is playable whereas before it was unbearable. So now it's some minor studders here and there but at least you can run, jump, battle without much problems
Thanks for this video man.

I own all the games on ps3 so I'll probably stick with that. I'm still a fan of the ps3 so it's all good
Any info for playing on the steam deck?
Will you made a video about the Switch version of Nier Automata ? The port looks really good. :)
Ff13 on steam deck is a dream come true, with the fan fix both ff13 and ff13-2 can run on a stable 40fps with good battery life.
Thannnk you for the great vid ❤❤❤ gonna get on pc and ps3 all versions
Unfortunately my Steam Region is Asia my FFXIII copy doesnt have dual audio with only english subtitles. The Audio is low bitrate. I have to find a copy with Dual Audio and mix it in to my FF13's Steam Folder.
On the back of my ps3 versions says 1080p must be a Europe cersion thing
I really hope this series get a remake on PS5
Why sony cant put a remastered version of this game out again, like they do for xii, holly molly in goino mad 😢
Hopefully one day they will be remastered for the PS5 but I can enjoy the PS3 versions just fine as they are.
if i want to play ff13 with japanese audio and english subtitles which system should i play on? thanks
I have them all on PS3 but I don't have their DLC unfortunately.
in the box of XIII for ps3 says it 1080p, are you sure it is 720?
So, will they ever remaster the trilogy for PS5?
I’m waiting for the eventual PS5 remaster of 13,13-2 with 4K120.
You can keep Lightning Returns.
This was one game that just didn't feel like it belong ps3 and 360. The visuals are so stunning, I would compare it to final fanatsy 7, with or without mods.
I'm waiting to either : build my new pc so I can play this is 4k or whatever you call it or a switch port if that ever comes.
I nerver played any of these, do you recommend start playing the trilogy in order? (PS3)
Yes, play them in order. They have a continuing story.
If anyone knows a fix, i would love to hear it
surprising that these games have never been ported/remastered for PS4/PS5
have fun getting 13 to work on a PC, mine wouldn't even load and this game has been a nightmare for others to get working
I got it to work just fine through the Xbox app. However the controller disconnects for some reason
When I play these trilogy games on the og xbox one, game runs on 30fps and the fmv’s are stuck on 720p
thank you backwards comp
Strange Square won't make remasters of the trilogy for console players.
Honestly Xbox is the best way to play 13, yes its my personal biased opinion but i feel the gimmicks were designed for that system
Is XMP on in your BIOS for your memory? Looks like your RAM is running at stock settings. You could be getting better performance.
Lol
I am interested in the Microsoft Store version to replay, and I am quite curious as to why you like it better?
@@RodniDemental The XIII trilogy runs terribly on PC, many people reported framerate issues, game crashes and it may be some random tought but it seems that modern hardware struggles to run the game IDK why. MIcrosoft store runs smooth and has less framerate issues specially when we talk about XIII-2 that runs at 25fps using a Ryzen 5 and a RX580, but the microsoft store version runs at least at 50fps but stays at 60 most of the time
@@MarcosBay_ Cool. I have a crappy laptop from a couple years ago that will hopefully work, I don't care about specs i just want to play game for some achievements again and it says microsoft store version has it's own achievement list on xbox live.
The MS Store version is not modable, which means you can't take advantage of HD textures and other fixes to the game.
Personally recommend rpcs3...runs great and no endless patching...obviously full control support....pc button prompts are terrible, even with modding
Gonna be picking this up again for ps3 can’t wait 😊
I tried bro, i wanted to love it, 11 hours in I had to walk away due to the awful & simplistic battle system that always felt too easy/boring or difficult/clunky. I never felt skill was a factor.
Damn. I miss these games. I should go back and play them again. My PS3 crapped out so I had to buy the games again on PC. That FF13 Fix works wonders
I KNEW it! FFXIII-2 seemed always the BEST FF13 Game on X360 to me years ago
Best game of the trilogy by far as well.
Win win for Xbox gamers at least and literally the last good FF, well new one at least.
