My buddy just bought a GR45. We're going to be testing it this weekend. Thanks for the video! My buddy is 191 Super K mobile and he really enjoys all of your videos!
1-21-24 THATS A GREAT ANTENNA. I USE TO RUN ONE ON MY 94 FORD RANGER IN THE LATE 1999-EARLY 2000. I WAS RUNNY THAT ANTENNA IN KEY DOWNS, RUNNING A 200 AMP ALTERNATOR 2x4 and A STRAIGHT 8 pill Sometimes. THAT ANTENNA CAN TALK SOME SKIP TOO. WHEN I BOUGHT MINE IT WAS FROM A COMPANY CALLED SIGNAL ENGINEER BACK THEN.
Used the golden rod antenna before they took a leave many years ago. It is a great antenna on receive and transmit. Works very well with horizontal polarized antennas. My only issue is if you come in contact with low hanging branches you can kiss the top hat good bye. Other than that it's hard to beat.
i adjusted mine the same way i bowed out the loops in the middle one time and got mine where i wanted . you can also loosen the set screws and adjust the loops folding them up or folding them down but i never messed with that adjustment . mine seems to be a little better front to back then side to side on receive or transmit . i have talked dx and local on mine. i compared it to my 102" whip with 6" spring and other than being directional seems to be on par with the old time tested steel whip. be careful if your get near trees its like a treble hook and your finger when you are fishing. it seems to reach out and grab those limbs and get all bent up. they are supposed to tx both vertical and horizontal at the same time. supposed to be 10k or higher power rated
No more rooftop or magnet mounted antennas for me! I screwed a plate extension on my truck toolbox, mounted a Hustler HD ball and spring and the 102" whip works perfectly. That also affords the opportunity to experiment with different antennas like Monkey Made, Skipshooter and others. I have heavy 2" wide braided ground straps everywhere.
We tested the GR-45 against a predator 10k from 25 miles away running 1,000 watts PEP and we're both pretty sure the Gr-45 wins. Neither of us could believe it, but it seems to produce better/cleaner audio. I've uploaded the audio of it on my channel if you're interested. BTW, I thought I was talking to you on skipland today, some guy named Rooster said he was the Rooster from TH-cam, lol. Had me fooled.
Great video and a good antenna... I remember way back in the 90s a guy had one of these... depending on price I might try one.... rooster keep up the good work... the boss of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia
Have you did the road/range test on the skippshoter and this GR45 yet??? Looking forward to seeing it when you do. I just ordered the GR45 and i hope it does good. I already have one antenna from George at lightning antennas the L4 Quad it does awesome. So i figure the GR45 will be a awesome wave runner to. Stay Safe out there God Bless 73s.
Are sure on the length? Mine is 56 inches tall? There were 2 models of this antenna. The first one was the Spider 45a+. I believe this model was shorter.
Rooster I'm thinking for a BASE STATION antenna. Iv got limited space. Has it been tried..do you think it will do we'll. PINBALL WIZARD DAYTONA BEACH FLA.
@@Rooster_Radio been wanting to replace the top section of a IMAX 2000 with the gr45 but i need a helper . these antennas are so easy to adjust without any tools jus by bending the loops. i did hear a guy say he was using one on dx one time with just a mast as the bottom part of a dipole. you hear a lot things on dx though. hard to fact check . i did see something in a radio antenna book i have somewhere on using the antron or imax ground plane kit on aluminum base antenna that already has its own radials . they showed the ground plane radials for the fiber glass base antennas being mounted on the mast below the metal radials . looked to be about 6 to 10 feet below was supposed to change the takeoff angle.

I've had one on my farm truck for around 2 years and I've had good luck with it

Very nice antenna and you seem to know your stuff as a radio doctor I'm going to have to start having you do my radio work
Well, you can hang your laundry from it. Glad it worked out for you. TACO trucks rule.

An impersonator 🤣

Interesting for sure
When you can do some up close of how the coil and the wire is all connected and built.
That's why I run it I have the original from signal engineering was known as the spider A
I did one mod to mine changed out the wires to pure copper better conductance then aluminum

You think.... We can put two of them on top of my Tahoe like i used my two monkey made????
I changed my bands to copper better conductivity do to my aluminum band shaping 73s
G r 4 5 how does it compare to a 102 steel whip
Tom222 mid Missouri you need to try the lightning L4plus base antennas ,great antenna super light
Maco v5/8 is a great dx skip talker
on top of a 40 foot tower bet it kicks ass
Good morning I have a president Jackson’s but I have BJ 300w how much should the radio Gracias 🙏
Good morning I have a president Jackson’s but I have BJ300w how much should the radio send gracias
I wish they made these longer to try against my 7ft skip shooter
I will be testing it against one. 7ft Skipshooter has been my favorite Antenna, but so far I feel it's very close between the two

Maybe the manufacturer has the long length listed on the website? 🤔🤔🤔 Yes I'm sure
Hmm... maybe the current models are shorter? Mine was purchased in the late 90's
Mine is 56 inches also
How did this compare to a Wilson 5K?
WHAT IS THE POWER WATTAGE MAX THAT IT CAN HANDLE? AND CAN YOU PUT THE GR45 on your house roof
12kw peak
Can you put it on your house roof
@@Rooster_Radio can you put it on your house roof
Good question.
@@Rooster_Radio THANK YOU

Would be fine, probably add some groundplane radials to it.

Final review?
Can you use it on your house roof
Do you think it would last on a big truck?
If you don't hit anything with it
@Rooster_Radio lol thank you sir. Been driving for 27 years just didn't know if it would handle the normal abuse.
GOLDEN ROD 45 can take out a PREDITOR 10K why I run it 73
I bet somebody can make a big one out of 12 gauge cooper wire or 18 gauge wire make it into beam antenna.
Maybe somebody make homemade one put it on youtube i think it can be done if somebody hads use nanovna for swr.
Actually talk flat and how much does it cost so I can put my order in
