  • In 2018, we spent a month skiing the backcountry in Patagonia. We started in Bariloche, skiing Frey and Cerro Lopaz. We then ventured into Chile in the lakes district and skied Case Blanca, Ozorno and Villarrica. Heading South we skied Cerro Castillo before ending up in El Chalten where we skied Cerro Electrico, Comedor Franceses, Creston, Mosquito Valley and Vespiniani.

    I've alpine skied for almost 50 years. I discovered the new Rottefella Tele bindings and by next season I had the full set up. Now I have several pairs of telemark skis for all sorts of terrain.

    Cero Torre killer. My favorite backpack trip. Tele even better! The notion lock the heal fix the problem, piss off. I say drop the knee, drop the sport!. If you really want to learn how to ski learn tele, no cheating in the back seat. Walking up and down the mountain, you explained it perfectly. Never give up you killed it! Tele 4 life. Well at least until I can't, then die no reason to live. Who knows who you saw ripping and who changed your life depending on where you were it could be me. Gad you found it. The turn truly is life changing, changed mine in 1995. Mark thank you for the swap of bike parts, leather boots and skis.

    Wow! This is the best BC/Telemark video I’ve ever seen. I really appreciate your no-nonsense candid approach to telling it like it is! I also appreciate your controlled style. Too much is focused on the ‘extreme’ and speed nowadays. Nice to see the grace in your dance of turns! I also thought this was a great tour because of the work you put in to get to those turns. You’re definitely right that looked like a great road trip! Peace and have a great year!

      Bill H thanks for your thoughts. I wanted to make something that a Tele skier could relate. I wanted to explain all of the pain you go through to get that incredible feeling and that it is worth it. I do yoga as well and agree with your comments. In fact if it wasn’t for yoga I don’t think I could do a Tele turn.

    Great vid as usual. Had a great 10 days skiing with Indio and Juan in October this year. Agree with your comments on Patagonia. Fantastic place. Also great guides- highly recommended. Left my Tele skis at home. It's AT for me now in the back country - only Tele the resorts. When Scarpa comes up with a Tele boot with the range of motion and weight of its F1 I will Tele the back country again.

    literally came here to find an answer to the question she brings up at 1:12--and her answer was perfect. a, it was hilarious to me because I can't figure out why anyone would telemark. b, because who gives a shit what I think. she's clearly good at it, enjoys it, and doesn't stress about explaining it to anyone. guess I have my answer.

    How many tele skiers does it take to change a light bulb?
    4. One to put in the light bulb, and 3 to say "nice turns".
    NICE TURNS!
    Why do "we" tele?
    I started alpine skiing in 1964. By the time I was 52, (15 years ago) I'd decided it was time to try something else (I tried snowboarding off and on for about 5 years, as my sons were avid snowboarders) and thought it was time to try tele. I was instantly addicted. I took my sons out and after one day, they were addicted as well.
    There is an elegance to it that is very rewarding, aesthetically. It engages more of my brain than alpine skiing because there's just more going on, physically, dynamically, and mentally. It presents more opportunity to use it as a means of self expression. It requires a very precise fore-aft balance point - especially with a tight stance. The other great thing is no one on a chairlift ever thinks "he sucks"....they just think, "what the hell is he doing"! 😉

      After twenty years of alpine skiing, racing, etc I started using my x-country skinny’s on all the piste just for the challenge. Forced my to learn the tele. Lol. Then i started doing yoga and the two were symbiotic flow. Never looked back, just up at bigger challenges.

    Hi, I like your telemark-videos! Fantastic locations, smooth telemarkturns. I saw that you are using crampons for the ascenting. Which ones, do you think, fits the best for 75 mm and NTN? I've tried some (Grivel Skimatic), but they do not really fit my boots.

    • @blu112233
      @blu112233  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We use Petzl irvis. It is an ultra light crampon however it is not amazing fit for either ntn or 75mm boots. What I do like about them though is that they really are light and don’t take up a lot of room. Glad you enjoy the videos.

    • @renppeh
      @renppeh 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@blu112233 Thank you for this hot tip! I bought the Irvis hybrid because of the steel frontpart. But first they also won't really fit. Than I saw at Bergzeit.de, a German Outdoor retailer (they also have an UK-Web-Shop) that there are special toe bails from Petzl available. I bought them too and now, both of my telebootmodels fits really good (NTN an 75 mm). The Petzl item-no. is T03600, if you want to have a look about them. Greets from bavarian alps! Klaus

    • @blu112233
      @blu112233  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@eliasprytz7862 If you are going to be there for a while I really wouldn't worry about a guide in Chile as most of the mountains are volcanos and are easy to navigate if you have back country experience. However Argintina is a different story. In Argintina you are skiing on mountains with all of the mountain trimmings, of aspect, powder pockets, windblown as well as skiing into areas that you may not want to be. That being said if you are there for some time just as around as you may be able to hook up with someone. In El Charlton there is a really nice guide by the name of Indio. Hope this helps
