How to Return a Message Instead of an Empty Report in Microsoft Access

  • What can I do if my Access report comes up blank? If there is actually no data for the report, it is often a nicer experience for the user if they do not have to look at the blank report, but instead get an informative message saying that their selections returned no data. We can prevent the report from opening and give the user a message.

    Great Video as usual... Will this work with sub reports? The main report has data, but the sub report does not, so you want to give the no data message and cancel.

      No, unfortunately it does not appear to work with subreports. I tried it just now. For that situation you could use On Open in the Parent to check for records, then set Cancel if none were found for the subform.
