I will be 76 in a few weeks and can genuinely say, despite some minor infirmities, very modest financial circumstances, and a wee bit of social isolation, I am happier and more at peace within myself than I have ever been. My life is my own now, my time is my own, my spirit is strong, there is gratitude in every day, and I am free at last to just be me.

When I was in my early 20s (I’m 60 now), I was seeing an acupuncturist for some digestive issues, and I said to her one day after a treatment, “what are you doing for the holidays?”. She said “I live a very contemplative life so I will probably just spend the holidays alone in quiet reflection“. At the time I thought “what is she talking about? Who wants to spend their holiday in quiet reflection?“ Lol. The mind of a 20 year old I guess. Now that I am 60, I completely understand what she was saying. I now live a very contemplative lifestyle where I spend a good portion of my time alone in quiet reflection, connecting with nature, meditating, doing yoga, doing art, etc. I totally get it now. There is so much value in finding that deeper connection to self and in my opinion that can only be done alone. And I also want to echo what other people said in the comments…You are such a calming and positive presence. I look forward to every time you release a new video. It makes my day.

I'm in my early '60s, and used to host Christmas every year for my kids even after the divorce. Then one of my son's married an absolute psychopathic narcissist, it is literally torn the family apart. My husband and I have been dealing with serious illnesses and I absolutely refused to have anybody in my life like that I don't care who they are! I now have a very small holiday with my other son and his family. I still like to put out some decorations just because I enjoy them. Regardless if anybody's here. I love peace and quiet.

@@VM-123 That must’ve been difficult to have your family torn apart like that. I’m sorry you went through that. I’ve had quite a bit of family drama in the past as well so I can relate to what you’ve gone through. Life is too short to allow other people to negatively impact your life. I’m all for Peace and quiet and no drama.

As a child I was contemplative, creative and intuitive. Family, friends and school painted this as undesirable. She is a quiet girl who needs to learn to express herself and be more confident. This external expectation lead to years of self abuse and addiction in order to be someone else. It was only in my late fourties’ I was courageous (heart)enough to reclaim the child of the universe I am and my special place in it. I so appreciate people speaking on topics like this.
Be still and know that I am.❤️

As an only child I have always known the gift of being alone and what a necessary thing it is for my soul to grow and be content. Especially time with my nose in books, journaling or doing art. I'm now in a busy season of life with two small children which of course is such a blessing but leaving all that time and peace and quiet behind has been a challenge. I know though, that one day it will return and I will miss these days of being the centre of my babies' worlds. Much like the menopause, each season of life brings its own challenges and gifts and we must embrace them all as necessary on our journey. I'm not at that stage of life quite yet but I do know that growing old is such a privilege and I wish the menopause was framed more positively as the rite of passage that it is. Lovely video as always Wendy 😊

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and wisdom. I am coming up in my 70th birthday, not real excited about it, however I have definitely noticed a change in the past few years for the good. It’s about learning and truly appreciating the little things in life. I have also recently rediscovered some artistic gifts in myself that have long been stuffed away and it has given me joy.

Crazy timeliness of this. I'm heading out for 3 days on my own to rest and recharge with book, crochet, and notebook and pencils. Looking forward to spending time quietly after an intense few weeks (months?) to sit and reflect, listen, ruminate, treat and explore. I used to this regularly whilst doing PhD but haven't for a few years, thinking I didn't have the excuse now. Watching you I've realised, I dont need an 'excuse', I am the reason! And that is enough!
Thank you for sharing so much of yourself so honestly and encouraging me to take care of myself better. (I have Fibromyalgia and struggle to give myself permission to rest.) To make what I need a priority and feel guilty about it or think I'm being selfish in doing so is a daily challenge. Even having the space to be honest here is helpful and cathartic. It's bizarre that, in the nasty place of Internet World, you have created a soft place for me to fall. Thank you.

In general, this world doesn't understand the "introvert" and I think hence we question our value as one. Introverts are quite comfortable with (and need) time alone. Everything you said resonated with me and I have listened to this video over and over and will no doubt keep coming back to it. Thank you for sharing and your honesty.

It’s so fun to see your older art! How true Holly Hobby is even over 40 years later 😍. I think I will have an extra good day…
I am 63 now but had serious issues so went through menopause before 30 and couldn’t have children. Each of our lives hand us opportunities to grow and to grow in kindness , compassion and love. Then, we can lift others up! I’d lost my sister in a car accident at 20 so I truly believe that’s when I understood that so much isn’t worth worrying about and it separated me from so many people my age on a deep level. I still enjoyed them but so many times I just stayed home and enjoyed it! I felt balanced at 30.
My mother didn’t fare well. She began drinking, left my father and after I had helped her get an education she lost her job and suddenly moved in with me!!
I just didn’t have the strength to tell her she should move in with her mother (I lived next to) because she was such a negative and draining person for me. I always had to “take care of her”. I.e. She was turning to me with her sadness that I couldn’t give her grandchildren days after my surgery while I was still in hospital.
Well, I just wanted younger people to listen to that inner voice and do what you know is right,
My mother was a malignant covert narcissist. I’d never heard that term until 10 years ago in counseling!!
Long story but at 52 I’d moved and bought her house , redid everything spending all my savings. I’d had 3 back surgeries and knew I couldn’t teach much longer. I started to question her when she refused to sign over the house (I’d paid her for it along with complete renovation)
During one of her outbursts (my brother and his wife had moved in) I was kicked out and told police would be called if I returned before they wanted me. I’d found out some things about my mother and had just realized she had been stealing money from me! I gave her everything?! I bought her cars, paid bills, insurance, etc
It confused and crushed me!and gave her cash!!
Well….here’s the GREAT NEWS!!! I didn’t go back!
I listened and knew that I had only a spark inside. If I went back under that I would lose myself.
If I left I’d have myself!! I had no friends, $200 and 23 days until paid. I’m doing GREAT! It’s an unbelievable story that began as I said a prayer when backing out of the driveway.
She and my brother had been lying about me (mother had for years and did all the communication). If I called she’d make sure she could hear everything and would cut my visit off. It’s so weird and so sad that she spent her energy on controlling everything and looking good for everyone and getting attention very sly…like she was always a victim
I was offered places to stay with others asking ME what was going on…
I’m now married to a man I’d gone to HS with but hadn’t seen since college. He is the kindest and most sensitive person I’ve known! He was the one who had been through pain and knew I was very naïve. He protected me. We married when I was 54 and had counseling. My principal was absolutely wonderful to me! He was only there 3 years. Exactly time I needed him! I retired 4 years ago. We saved and bought our first home. He couldn’t have children either but we are the proud parents of 2 fur babies…
Mother signed the house over to my brothers son. She sold all my things or gave them away when she moved to live with a friend after my brother left her alone. She couldn’t pay her bills.
I didn’t move back in. I felt very sad for her.
It WAS traumatic for me. I don’t want to downplay that aspect. She even called police and said I’d stolen some rings and watch??? The detective came to school (she said she didn’t know where else he could find me. She knew.). He saw truth. He said she was either punishing me or trying to scare me into returning to live with her.
See??? I’d never been in trouble but I couldn’t believe that this detective was HELPING me understand it better!!
I’m just trying to help someone from going against that strong inner knowledge.
Or, if and when things in life aren’t going well just keep doing the right things and I promise it will be returned.
I believe in God. I do believe He guided everyone and everything after I left.
Boy, my light is SHINING BRIGHTLY now!!
You are right, Wendy. ALWAYS put out as much kindness and love.
Take care of YOURSELF. You can always put more out but it’s relative to how well your soul is shining.
Be true to who you know you are
    Hugs across the miles!!!
Honey, you really do bring so much peace, love and serenity to others throughout the world by your videos!
    I have rewatched many times!!
    Love and light

Right when I began the meno season, I took a workshop on the beauty of our "Second Spring". It was wonderful learning about the me I was growing into. Yes, there are some moments I don't like, i.e., the hot flashes and night sweats, but I love that I get to slow down and be more contemplative - going within and taking my time. Our first half of life was the time to go, go, go and do, do, do. But this time is the time to pause. I don't rush anymore. This season has brought lots of pain with it which actually forces me to slow down. I will be 60 next year and I now have the inner knowing and the intuitive abilities I never had before. Enjoy the season! It can be a beautiful time! Be blessed, C.

So happy that you've been able to drink from earth's energy and refresh during your quiet cup-filling time. Sounds like Grace, the fairy, has been whispering in your ear, and sharing secrets. Thank you for sharing with all of us, including the amazing tingling energy from your saucer!
Solitude and quiet time allow me to escape the noise and chaos, and re-ground and energise, becoming in sync with natural rhythms. If I can do this, my inner muse can be heard much more easily. Also, when my body and mind quiet, my confidence and strength seem to grow and I find my own grace. Like a perennial plant, after the bloom, I draw within, to spread my roots, drink deep, to grow and spread and bloom again.
Don't be afraid of things being in a pickle - many people adore pickles! Pickles add taste to our palates, and remind us of the bounty of the harvest long afterwards. And a creative pickle is the best kind, isn't it?
Thanks for showing yourself as the proud, naked Lady Godiva - we see only the truth and beauty of your spirit surrounded by a glorious halo of lovely hair. Perennial Grace.
Sending love and light to you and everyone else seeking quiet energy.

I think of menopause as ‘growing pains’ as we grow into our wisdom and magic as crones. We move into a deeper understanding and a freedom from so much - not just freedom from the physical (menstruation itself) but freedom from societal pressure to be a certain way or be doing a certain thing. It’s the best time of our lives.

At first I found the quietness of the pandemic sad and lonely. Being an only child, I have always had alone time. And I always enjoyed it. Some people take it as being anti social, unpleasant or even not liking to be with people, however, alone time was always so good to me. I’ve always lived with my parents and grandmother, but I had my privacy having my own room. Then my parents divorced, then my grandmother passed away and then my mother went to a nursing home (where she passed away) and I’ve been living alone since 2018. I have plenty of alone time, because I am a bit of a hermit, I guess, and I don’t know anyone personally who shares my taste in art or crafts. So I guess I tend to prefer to be alone. Sometimes I miss being with people, but I don’t deal well with too much noise or loud conversations or going out at night.
During this time of living alone, I have learnt so much about myself, my limitations, my weaknesses and also my strong points and what I really like and what really makes me happy.
Menopause was a very easy transition in life for me, I felt no physical difficulties. But I find very upsetting that menopause is almost always referred to as a bad thing and as if a woman is no longer a “complete” woman. It’s a natural process that should be embraced with kindness towards ourselves.
Thanks for keeping me company. See you next week or on instagram 💙💛🖤💗❤️💜♥️🧡💚✨✨✨✨✨🌹🌹🌹🌹

THIS! What a wonderful video! I relate to so much in this video.
I had so much Hollie Hobbie stuff in 1979! My parents went to Scotland and brought me back, a picture for my wall, a hairbrush and mirror, a jewellery box with jewellery, etc. I loved her.
I met an old Art College friend yesterday, we hadn't met in 15 years... and we reminisced about our time together then, in '94, '95. And we talked of the menopause! There is no escaping it ☺️, but it's a part of life... but hey!, now I don't need to wash my hair every day as when I as younger 😆 menopause gave me non greasy hair! 👏
I'm not sure if you noticed, your clothes mirror/reflect the Lady Godiva painting. It's stunning.
I've only discovered your channel in the last week or so... definitely the universe delivers what we need.
    Have a lovely week. 💕

Years ago I watched a tv program talking to five notable women of the time who were either in their 59’s or older…one of the things all of them said was that they loved being in their 50’s. Most agreed it was because they’d come fully into themselves, and they could enjoy life. They were able to simply disregard the criticisms sent their way by others and do their own thing! This video and your last one are wonderful. Truly helpful and inspirational. Keep being you. 👏🌷

You are a breath of fresh air! Thank you for your videos, I am 73 years old and really found menopause to be just a rite of passage. My Mother had an easy time thru her changes and so did I. Hormone changes for sure and becoming a bit more emotional but more human, if you like! ( I love it when you say that). Keep being yourself, it is wonderful to be in this stage of life, and just know we can do it with dignity and grace. And the best part ,we don't get to bother It anyone approves of our styles, as we are in a great chapter of our lives. Cheers

I loved seeing your artwork from years ago! It's fun to look back and see how far we've come, isn't it. I recently started reading a lot more and turning off the TV. Sometimes I think we need to shut out the world and just spend time with ourselves. :)

This video just made me feel so relaxed. It showed up at the right time. Thank you for that. Friday and Saturday just had so much negative energy coming at me. What do you suggest for the ever looming energy of some people in my life? They have such negative energy. Also you are right about the magical gifts the menopause can give. I am 66 and I feel more confident and relaxed with myself more than ever. Some people may be taken back by it, but it just has a way of giving you more freedom to fly, if you will. I love the new me. 😍 Love your beautiful artwork always. Congratulations on your upcoming exhibition. 👏 🌻💜🦜🥰

I was fortunate enough to study the Pre-Raphaelites with the O U…and I live in an area where we have so many galleries which show their paintings. 🎨🎨🎨🎨🎨 With regards to the menopause, women of our maturity 50+say, we’re considered Wise women and valued by the community/village, people would go to for help and of course, wise words. It’s so unfortunate that our society do not see us that way. That’s their loss.🥰🥰🥰

It must be so lovely to live somewhere where you can find some peace. Where I live is constant noise. Even when I go to a lake to find peace, someone comes there with a loud boat, or a loud radio, or screaming and laughing, or using a chainsaw. It’s horrible for my mental health, but I’m currently powerless to change it. I can’t even escape to places you’d think you’d find no other people because people show up everywhere.

Nice to hear you give voice to the need of quality “lone time.” Actually, for me, it was the covid lockdown, that made me rearrange my home into a quiet bookish, lots of plants, coffee bar space. Now, I’m keeping it that way,
I see you have a beautiful art studio, lots of plants - what a wonderful space! And, all your art! I noticed you flipping through cards with inspirational quotes. Thats a great idea, too.

Appreciating all the beauty life offers is what keeps me content and peaceful in the knowledge that life is a gift, create it....be happy with yourself and everything else will fall into place. I loved this vlog...❤
I went through my penomause very early due to a bad car accident. As a younger woman it was difficult to come to terms with the loss of my ability to have a baby.
Now in my mid 50's some ten years past all the hormone chaos I have come to find a strange calm ....partly i think in my age itself, as i have embraced a simplicity of youth ....fresh face simple attire and looking outside myself again instead of just being focused on me and how the world sees me, but instead embracing that lost youthful wonder in really seeing the world and people around me. Embracing agsin the tiny wonders.
Thank you for sharing my you tube friend. I look forward to our next visit. ❤🥰

In addition, I am so thankful for your very real discussions about menopause. It certainly is a transition - but not all bad. It really is a time for self-reflection and thoughts of "what's next?" For me, being here is like having a treasured gift every day. I call it DeerHaven because on any given day I usually see more deer than I do people. Alone time is wonderful! I spend about 90% of my time alone which some may say is too much but for me it is just right. Especially now when big events have happened in my life. I am now a 73 year old orphan. My Dad died in April this year and my Mum died just over a week ago. I have some sadness of course but they were very old and the time was right for them. In fact my Mum was getting cross that she couldnt just die and be done with!
So with the funeral over my brother and sister and I must pack up their home which my son now owns. It feels like a big "The End" and I am processing almost every second of my day. Time alone is so important for doing this.
I loved your video Wendy. Ka kite ano. Arohanui. (See you again. Much love.)

Hello Wendy , don't ever feel the need to "talk" to us at any time , Self Care is so important and just know that what ever You decide to share with us seems to always hit the nail on the head as it were ... You teach us all to care for Our selves ..the World needs more of us to do that ..Lots of love to You and James !! When I worked in a Witch Supply shop one of the things I heard shifted my World " Out of Chaos comes Creation" I adore that book about Pre Raphaelite ...one of my fave periods !! I also think that Your Indian door hanging that You put up across the L shape has helped with Your Feng Shui, I watched a video with Denise Linn who has written a few books on the subject... ""the only thing to remember is IF IT FEELS GOOD GREAT , if not let it go" I always feel that Your paintings are ALL Self Portraits ..they capture different Parts of You! I love that Painting and the position of Her ..Your Studio feels so Magical ! Love Rik Mayal too ! Astrologially speaking there are lots of Planets and Astroids that are in Retrograde at the moment so a lot of that energy has to do with Re-flection on How We are in this World , feels like a real Re-nnaisence ...perfect timing really!! Blessings to You and thanks again for sharing Your Little Sweet corner of the World! x ps I also learnt when working in the Witchy shop that Our Crone time is all about holding in the Wiseblood instead of releasing our Power each MOONth ...and now Being a Crone for the last few Years I totally get it , it also has increased My Intuition and Creativity! (OH MY GODDESS as I finished writing about Intuition YOU SAID the same thing HAHAHA...it proves WE ARE ALL CONNECTED and the UNIVERSE is always listening hahaa )

Alone time is so valuable. I grew up in a three bedroom one bath house with nine people. 3 girls in one room and my 4 brothers in another. Fortunately back in those days one could get on their bicycle and be gone alone for hours. I’d bring my sewing basket and find somewhere quiet to sit and sew. My daughters (twins) were born in 1979, my Grandmother would send us Holly Hobbie greeting cards, they were always the highlight of our day. Often she would include a 10 dollar bill which she called “ice cream money”. I loved seeing your childhood Holly Hobbie painting. These days I live a quiet contemplative life in a tiny house on an island off the coast of Washington State in the US. I so enjoy your peaceful and inspiring videos. Blessings to you. ☮️🙏🏻🌺

Oooooo Wendy, I’m reading a book called “Wise Power” and it’s all about the power of menopause liberating to awaken authority, purpose and belonging........ It’s as though you just magically have the knowledge, isn’t it wonderful? Everything you’re describing is exactly what I’m reading about and I agree with you that it’s been highly hijacked as an awful thing but perhaps that’s deliberate to keep us from our natural organic growth into spiritual awareness and that beautiful inner wisdom. I loved seeing all your art history thank you for being so........beautifully, uniquely you 🌺✨✨✨

I've learnt something new today. So that's where Peeping Tom came from!!!
When I was younger, my nan always warned us, to cross the road past a certain house because there was a peeping Tom in there.
I didn't have a clue what she was talking about🤣
I was a david cassidy fan, big time. But one day I found myself outside a studio door waiting for Paul Daniels to come out?.. anyway, he did after his show, and gave me a kiss..... I think from that day on, everything just went downhill..🤣🤣

We are not static entities, but ones who change with every day lived, even every hour. One of my goals this year was to have intentional rest and i thought i was but now i realise that all i have been doing is sitting/watching stuff and waiting for my body to rebuild enough energy to do the next task while my mind thinks "hurry up body i need to do this and that" and it is not relaxing.
I think I need to ponder on maybe changing my home a bit and bring back some relaxing habits.
I used to not be so bad at this when I was young but now I am too ill to do things most days i desperately want to cram things into the days i can, even though its not physically possible for me.
I need to re-learn how to relax.
I loved this video I had a green tea and made an effort to try and relax. I loved seeing your older work and stories. I have been wanting to try some self portraits and have a go at my own versions of other painters works I haven't done either since I was at college.

I really appreciate all your talk about menopause not being the big negative thing everyone else makes it out to be. I'm only in my late 30's but will be starting the process this year due to some medical procedures I need to have and I'm actually really looking forward to it. I have known since my early 20's that I can't have kids but I let doctors talk me into keeping all the reproductive bits, for "just in case", "but don't you want to try", etc reasons. Even when the possibility of getting pregnant is very low, the chance that it wouldn't be viable is very high and would come with a ton of complications that could cost the life of me and the baby, so many people just expected me to keep trying. Even when my dr said I need to have a hysterectomy along with the other medical stuff that goes with my health condition, my insurance kept saying they wouldn't cover it because it was an "elective" procedure. Now that I am finally getting stuff done to improve my quality of life, I've had so many people push for me to be on stuff to "put off menopause for a few more years". When why, what are the benefits of me doing so, the dr literally said "But you don't want to go through that yet, your so young." And when I tried to ask why, yet again, I got a "but what will people think" answer. First off, how would they know? Second and most importantly, why do I care what others may think? It's my body. I'm honestly really looking forward to it.

I used to love my alone time... now I have far too much of it and it's not something I treasure anymore. My husband of 42 years was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on Father's Day and passed just three weeks later. My daughter is married and has a home of her own of course so I cherish our time together, but being alone, especially in the evenings when I used to share it with him is so hard now. I've been trying to keep my mind and hands busy but it's difficult. I hope one day to return to making art and doing my TH-cam videos... sorry, your subject today really made me emotional and I must stop feeling sorry for myself. Anyway, enjoy your alone time and be thankful you can return again to the company of your loved one afterwards.

Another gift of penomause is not caring so much about what others think of you. I spent so much of my life worrying about very superficial things.
