The end of the Cosby story was Norm continued to stand by the BS number, and only when Cosby heard Norm discussing his father's passing (on TV) did he realized what had happened. Then he sent Norm a room full of flowers at SNL with a note offering his condolences.
I believe Cosby called Norm and said something to the effect of, "I regret to inform you that your father has passed away some years ago." I think he sent the flowers, too.
I was just thinking that. Watched the part in Dirty Work where Don Rickles is hysterically berating them and I thought Rickles would outlast Artie lol.
Despite what Norm might have wanted, when Anthony says "I wish I had been nicer to him" it was a beautiful and heartfelt moment. His color changes and there's a bit of emotion in his eyes.
What can anyone say? Seems that almost no one knew that Norm was ill, so his passing caught everyone unaware. We lost a unique talent, my thanks to Howie and Anthony for their fond memories of a comedy genius.
My obituary to Norm: [read as Norm on Weekend Update] Comedian Norm Macdonald, former Host of SNL’s Weekend Update, passed away. Famous for his dry humor and his love of gambling. He leaves behind a 1996 Honda Civic, a 2001 Winnebago, fifty tree dollars in cash and 5.6 million dollars in debt. This joke is dedicated to the memory of Norm Macdonald
THE END OF THE COSBY STORY: was that Cosby legitimately tried to call Norm’s father personally and eventually realized Norm was giving him the wrong number because he couldn’t admit to his idol Cosby that his father was dad. So Cosby finally put it together and sent a enormous room full of flowers to Norm at the next gig he was hosting to Norm’s surprise, and left him a card that said “i’m sorry for your loss.” - something to that affect - what a life lived
I really feel like Norm Macdonald has a HUGE surge of young fans that started finding all of his work on TH-cam. I'm starting to look at some old videos of Norm and there was a time where he was way heavier than normal and he'd make fat jokes about himself. My dad was saying, "I bet he was on some sort of steroids while doing his cancer treatment". I bet that is correct.
@sfairraid 13 Indeed. Very wise man underneath it all. Its often said that he pretends to be the dumbest guy in the room, while actually being the smartest. I wasn't old enough to know of him during his Weekend Update era. But I'm glad to have found him on TH-cam.
For sure. The "I'm Not Norm" channel on TH-cam is such an amazing homage to him. I've watched countless hours of his talk show and radio appearances and he just never failed to entertain. So unique. I'll miss him for sure.
Your dad wasn't even close to being correct. Macdonald had turned into a big fat slob because he was eating like a big fat slob. He and a couple of buddies would do live narration of the Master's, and he was on camera wiping out buckets of fried chicken. He first started getting blubbery in the late 2000s.
@Red River expressing sorrow for mistreating someone he admired that just lost their life is somehow “making it all about himself.” God, you must be really toxic irl and hate any showing of emotion or vulnerability, hope you grow out of it. And if anything Howie’s the one going “he was a fellow Canadian, we came from the same club” and making it about himself (still an assertion I’d disagree with, given the way they BOTH immediately pivot to fondly sharing stories reminiscing about Norm and sharing their deep admiration and respect)
Keeping your struggles from those around you and not being a burden is TRUE COURAGE. People often look for sympathy when illness comes .. Not our Norm ❤
Never seen Anthony so shocked before. I'm surprised they didn't stop the interview for a moment or so for some silent reflection. I'd have to gather my gather feelings before just going into discussing him as a past-tense thing out of nowhere.

To see Anthony Jeselnik, of all people react like that, let's you know we have really lost somebody important. He was and will continue to be a legend...
@Jay people said Patrice was “too confident” (or just a flat out asshole) too. Quit taking roast jokes seriously and bring me a gigantic turkey leg, you fucken nothin’
@Jay yea....that’s kind of his act. I can understand if you don’t like it, I personally have a hard time watching his specials due to his formulaic (albeit funny (subjective, ik)) writing style; innocuous set up, dark turn for a punchline. Innocuous setup, dark turn for a punchline - over, and over again. The act (even for a fan) definitely wears thin after a while. But I do also think it’s good for Anthony that a lot of people aren’t fans of his act, Patrice once said [this is paraphrased] “comedy shouldn’t be everyone in the room laughing: it should be half the people laughing, and half the people horrified” imean look how hated Fallon is, largely due to his unyielding desire to be ‘like-able’
@Jay true true. My personal all-time favorite was Greg Giraldo - another naturally funny, real, genuine, authentic comic with little to no act at all, just him being funny. And there are old tough crowd episodes where you can see him and Patrice going back-and-forth with their shit talk, but it’s clear through all of it that both comics truly have one another’s respect. There’s even an episode where Greg and Patrice are on the couch next to one another and I’ve honestly never seen Patrice talk so calmly, politely and respectfully as he did to Greg in (parts of) that episode
Hearts are meant to be broken. Thank you Normand for all the life you’ve forcibly compressed into my consciousness in the most undeniably miraculous and perfectly hilarious way imaginable.
What i loved about Norm that he got, was he got the heart intuition from Jesus for "no pity" from people knowing his soul was going to exit. The other day walking into a shopping centre, i saw a homeless guy & was guided to shake his hand look at him in the eyes soul to soul & say to him "it's nice to meet someone real", yes no pity for what is Gods will, that's something Christian's don't get, they are always full of pity & prayers.
A good friend of mine has stage four cancer and probably doesn't have much longer. I'm one of the only people she's told because she doesn't want people treating her differently. I totally understand and respect Norm's decision. I'm deeply saddened by his death. He was my comedy idol. It's just so heartbreaking.
Heart broken. Just.....geez. Every time I've sat and watched Norm, in movies, tv, comedy skits, showcases, specials....he has made me laugh more than any other person in the cast or on the bill. The world just got a lot less funny. There are still funny people around but Norm made humour an art which all people could relate to. What a shock. I am so pleased that I have sat watching a true legend for so many years and, honestly, Norm never failed to make me laugh in that way where you watch the bit over and over and it's still as funny as the first time you saw or heard it. Crushed.
What earth shattering news the entertainment and comedy world got today. Like it feels like someone punched me in the stomach. Im usually not effected by celebrities dying but I truly loved watching Norm and thought he was one of the smartest and unique comedians out there. He was just so cool. What a crappy day.
It's almost like losing family. We get to know these comedians when we really watch their body of work and feel like we know them. Norm was the comedian's comedian. I have tickets to see him October 9th and Boston and now I'm wearing the shirt today, that I was going to wear to that show. His picture with the words " the old lump of coal".... like we'll all be at some point. We'll miss you Norm, hope I see you on the flip side.😪
I wish I could be a fly on the wall in a room full of his friends and just hear them share all their norm stories. Comedy is so much more than just jokes to me, it’s the lens of which I see life through and selfishly I wish that norm would always be around. I hope his family and friends can find peace as they go through all of this.
You know, Alex Trebek was a large part of my growing up and I really loved watching him, his death made me very sad. But Norm hit me harder. There are few comics that can make me laugh as hard as Norm had over the years. I have never been happier going into a handbasket on its way to hell than laughing at a Norm joke.
I never really watched Jeopardy. But Still, Alex's Death Deeply touched me. (it was Actually on my birthday. But that had nothing to do with it) and Now, Norms Death is so very sad. Only a few celebrity deaths have really gotten to me, John Candy, Robin Williams, Darrell Abbott (dime) and Randy Rhoads. It's just sad to lose these talented people who gave the world so much without being able to say a proper Goodbye.
0:46 You can see a bright light shining on Jeselnik which I can only assume was a large screen with the story of Norm MacDonald's passing. I think the control room did the right thing by showing the story as they did. The reaction from both Howie and Anthony was authentic. They were able to pivot for a few minutes and talk about how great Norm truly was. You know who else thought he was a once in a generation talent? You guessed it, Frank Stallone. RIP Norm
Yeah for real. Norm was definitely one of those comedians that didn't sound like other comedians in his timing, his cadence. His jokes rarely sounded like jokes. At times you know what the punch line is going to be early on, then he would make you forget about it with some wild story, and then boom there's the punchline. He was so clever, and made it seem effortless. A comedian's comedian.
broken hearted today. 💔💔 I remember liking Norm MacDonald the first time I saw him on TV. A&E’s evening at the improv in like 1987 (1986? maybe earlier.) I knew he had “it.”
I loved Norm. I'm from Ontario, near the greats in comedy from there. Norm, Howie, Harland, and many more. I'm around the same age as these guy. It's sad to hear he's gone, but we must celebrate having the pleasure of his comic genius in our lives.
The best thing about Norm was that he was always Norm. He wasn't afraid to rub people the wrong way, and never gave in to the pressure to be something else, even when he knew it would cost him. That level of integrity and authenticity is a rare thing for anyone, let alone someone in the ever so image conscious world of show biz.

Anthony visibly shook. I know he was a huge admirer of Norm. Rip you ole chunk of coal. You're a diamond now, forever.
Those last two sentences you wrote were just awesome.
"I won't scatter your sorrow to the heartless sea. I will always be with you. Plant your roots in me. I won't see you end as ashes. You're all diamonds."
@@james7275able thanks
No. Still very coaly.
I was crying in the street when i heard.
Norm cared about comedy so much that even til his dying day he told almost no one about his illness...he didn't want people and fans to worry about him...he wanted them to remember his comedy instead...he was protecting his comedy, and for that he deserves legendary respect... Thanks Norm for always putting the laughter of others 1st... RIP
It would also be funny if he told lots of people but then told them all to keep it secret
Maybe he didn't want OJ to feel too at ease.
Also posthumous joke. He got everyone to repeat his line "I didn't even know he was sick". I can't think of anyone else delivering a joke like that. So good.
Anthony was truly blown away there for a moment. Mouth is literally agape.
Not like Anthony either I mean complete shock
Not the first time someone was blown with Anthony’s mouth agape

My obituary to Norm:
[read as Norm on Weekend Update]
Comedian Norm Macdonald, former Host of SNL’s Weekend Update, passed away. Famous for his dry humor and his love of gambling.
He leaves behind a 1996 Honda Civic, a 2001 Winnebago, fifty tree dollars in cash and 5.6 million dollars in debt.

Real moment from Anthony. He’s always brazen and to see genuine emotion is nice.
THE END OF THE COSBY STORY:
was that Cosby legitimately tried to call Norm’s father personally and eventually realized Norm was giving him the wrong number because he couldn’t admit to his idol Cosby that his father was dad.
So Cosby finally put it together and sent a enormous room full of flowers to Norm at the next gig he was hosting to Norm’s surprise, and left him a card that said “i’m sorry for your loss.”

It’s going to be something else looking back now
@sfairraid 13 Indeed.
@Peter Evans, Norm taught me what mawkish meant that day.
Damn Anthony looked completely rocked by the news. Everyone loved Norm. He really was the greatest.
He was thinking of all the times he was mean to Norm
I thought he seemed oddly blank
He seemed filled with genuine regret for his behavior towards Norm. I'm glad that he was honest about it too. Very real reaction.
Thoughts and prayers to Anthony

Yea I agree it was a Norm line for sure

As a Canadian norm did his country proud I grew up with his comedy always made me laugh
