Becky Downey Yeah I feel the exact same way. I think his choreos are really to train the dancers technically, it‘s less about the viewer and the emotions. But at the end of the day, a dancer without emotions sadly is missing something crucial.
I totally agree with you, I love Galen's choreography and the amount of "negative space" she leaves in a routine to highlight the actual moves and convey the emotion behind the song... however, I think in this case, the song was underchoreographed. Just by like....20%. If she added a LITTLE more it would be perfect, imo, but as it stands it kind of looks like someone playing around in front of their bedroom mirror to a song they like. Just my opinion.
I don't think people fully comprehend the extent to which the visceral conveying of emotions in this choreo is in part significantly rooted in Tim's meticulous shot-planning and utilization of angle and light to correspondingly play off the the shapes and textures created within the choreography, itself. Tim, like a masterful painter, conceptualizes the specific way in which he wants light and shadow to embolden and contrast themselves with the subject being portrayed, so as to provide depth and realism. Tim is masterful at his craft and his imagination is as vivid and punctual as it is approachable and easy to watch and engage with. ... Also, as an aside, I would have really enjoyed seeing Sean approach a choreo like this, in which the visceral emotional conveyance must be done in less moves and at a slower, more sentimental pace.
Wow wow wow. I feel like part of Galen's power is in her simplicity... yet she's so paradoxically complex IN that simplicity - like her timing is just so - and I can't tear my eyes away while she dances. (and her visions are always so perfectly brought to life here 🎥... it's insane)
L O Definatedly. The steps are simple. But there is a hyperawareness of the timing of each step on top of the performance level that such a soulfull piece demands. Its incredibly magical. And Galen is a fucking genious. Lots of choreographers make it really complicated and technical. But she likes simplicity and I love that about her. Because its approchable and relatable. Because its easy for non-dancers to follow and fall in love and believe they can attempt dance.
This choreography is a great example that you don't need crazy complicated dance moves to catch the attention of the viewers The simplicity in the movements and the focus on body language like facial expressions can convey the feel of the song much better. I was moved. I can only applaud to this piece of art which has been perfectly caught by my most favorite videographer.

She's definitely smooth, but I really thought she didn't capture what the dance was expressing. The hopelessness of heartbreak and not having the energy to take anything to the full reach. The first performance demonstrated both desire and being hopeless, whereas the middle girl in the group was a bit sexier and more filled with life, like most other dances, which took away from what this one was going for

I replayed twice for Galen, and teared up still. She moves like it is a way of speak, and even with minimal steps and facial expression, it’s perfectly enough.

What I absolutely loved about this is that it isnt the hardest dance, technicality wise, but it's the emotion that is conveyed through the movements that astounds me. Galen has a way of making you feel so much through her choreography. She is truly amazing at what she does. She's the reason I'm going to start taking dance lessons ❤️

To me, the lyrics match with the movements perfectly. Galen is so crystallised and clear with each motion, I am so moved by this. This felt like a dance about trust and love and wanting someone to fall entirely in love with you, like you already have.
