    Just came across this, I ordered a DSP2 clone in a very nice aluminium case, the speaker is on the front covered by a grill and the knobs and antenna connections are on the top, the power button, phones, and USB connection as well as the hard off switch are on the left side, the same model you cover on a much later video. The reason I purchased this model is, it is the first unit that doesnt look like it was constructed in someone's garage. The machining looks brilliant and it legitimately looks like a product you might buy at a retail store, and it comes with the firmware fully unlocked. It was not cheap, $350, but the primary reason I purchased outside of the machining was, I have been considering purchasing an RSP1a or something similar. This looks to give me the benefit of having a PC based SDR and a portable, self inclusive unit. Im hoping this outperforms my Eton E1XM, Sony 2001/2010d, Grundig Satelit 700, Sony ICF-SW77, Sony ICF-SW55, Panasonic RF-B65, Sangaean ATS 909X2, Tecson h501x, & Eton Elite Executive units. I have a GA508 antenna I currently use, again, based on the review you did of the GA450 & GA800, and my thinking was, the 508 is a bigger antenna but the same form factor (loop, cable attached from antenna to battery powered amplifier, amplifier connects to radio) with the only difference being that the amplifier does not have a place to directly attach the loop to as the GA450 & GA800 does. The loop is 20 inches in diameter, as compared to the GA800, which is 10 inches in diameter (and the 450 is even smaller than that). Only had the antenna a few days but, its been pretty decent thus far.

    Thanks. I have the same version bought from Banggood and came preloaeded with the version 1.10a firmware and full coverage to 2 Ghz ( apart from the gap that they all have). I'm impressed with mine as it is well made and once you get used to the menu system works real well. • @listerdave1240
    @listerdave1240 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just recently bought this exact same version, I mean identical down to the knobs, same speaker grille and everything.
    One major disappointment is that the antenna Hi-Z does nothing, the input is always 50 ohm regardless of the setting. I later read that it needs an optional board for that.
    The other issue I have with it is that it suffers from image reception. For instance at around 3.5 to 4MHz I receive stations that are actually transmitting somewhere near 11 to 12 MHz. When using it with my magnetic loop antenna it's no problem because the unwanted frequencies are filtered out by the antenna but with a Miniwhip or long wire antenna it can be a problem because stations on the lower frequencies often get drowned out by stations at three times the frequency.
    That said I have no regrets buying it and was well worth it, even considering these limitations.

    • @TechMindsOfficial
      @TechMindsOfficial  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Well, my first one the touch screen was hit m miss, the one in this video seems to work very well. Although the encoders do seem flaky. I didn’t mention in this video because I am doing some research, trying to ascertain if the issue is with the actual encoder skipping, or if it’s the software not registering the encoder clicks. I really want to find a solution for smooth, 100% reliable encoders, and once I do I will make a dedicated video on them and how to fix/replace these, if needed. Thanks for watching 🙏

    • @jamdigital9530
      @jamdigital9530 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@TechMindsOfficial The encoder on the Belka sdr works really well so I was planning on trying one of those on my malachite. You are right and it could be the software too or even the electronics rather than the encoder. Mine came in a very nice slimline case so there is really not much room for any other type of encoders, Its got those edge mounted ones. Ideally a bigger case , lots of pcb shielding, shielding the lcd from the antenna and rf parts of the pcb and a decent encoder and one would end up with a very nice RX when you consider the price, size and features

    • @ahndeux
      @ahndeux 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The encoders are perfectly fine. The 1.10A and lower firmware has a horrible encoder software routine that cause inconsistent results. It makes the wheel seem non responsive. It would not read or overshoot the value twice. The code was fixed on the 1.10B revision. It was all due to bad software code in the firmware. Emil discovered the problem and wrote a new code for the vendor to use to fix their problem.

    Mine has the free software , and the thicker one with the 2 speakers (one is parasitic) and big Knobs, says Shenlan EK, it says on the case revA.0 but iside it says A3 ? .Two meters is useless as inteferance from the internal circuit, but its great on HF exept for powerfull stations swamping the band , half of the memory slots do not work. The freq steps are a REAL pain on the touch screen to touch correctly and selecting a station from the touch screen is bad as you end up with tiny frequency steps to correct as frequency step changes., once on a station it is pleasing.The sound is really full and detailed on FM and great on hf. I On mine the Pre amp setting is wrong ie off is ON, and on is OFF, leave it activated ie OFF on the rod antenna and dont activate it on a 20m wire or similiar. Setup I find 75db on AGC as recomended by the Russian designer "George". RF gain 20 to 25 on rod with activated preamp, 10-15 setting on 20m wire with preamp not activated (with 9:1 balun).The screen was not flush with the case a gap of about 3mil at one edge, I opened the front and found the edge of the circuit board snapped of at 2 corners,thats why it would not hold down. If you open the case it will be a pain as the other side of the visible case screws is a nut which will drop off inside! It is an incomplete radio, but it receives way better than my techsun 660 and sounds better and picks up more than my Icom pro due in part to having no mains borne inteferance which renders my HF radios useless at times thats what was apparent straight away on battery power. Some time it does not want to come out of hard setting and a restart is required. No speaker grill is not a good idea, its been thrown together, I paid £106 from Banggood, not Chinas best offering, shame.

    Jesus, that poor little SMA getting loaded down by a PL259, lol. That right there would have me shopping for bulk SMA replacement connectors on eBay, haha. Pro tip btw... If you're going to attach an external antenna like this, then consider using an adapter CABLE rather than heavy, abusive solutions like this. Adapt your heavy PL259 connector down to an F connector, then use a short F to SMA adapter cable. Takes a lot of the strain off that internal board mounted SMA.
    I *really* want one of these, though. If I have an OCD shopping habit at all then it's for sure radio tech. I have a couple of SDRPlay units and I love them but to have an actual, pocket sized, portable little SDR with a full on rolling spectrum waterfall and speaker and internal battery and all, just phewwwww... it's as close to the American Dream as I'm ever apt to see.
    Anyone know if these units are HF deaf at all relative to say other good SDR units or its own receive sensitivity? I spend more of my radio listening life there than anywhere else so if I did start trying to budget one of these, deafness on HF could be a deal breaker for me.

    Hi, can you please explain this since I wrote to the guys at Banggood and are still finding the technical answer for this? This is what is listed under the Video
    Please kindly note before purchase:
    1. The software version of this product is 1.10a ;
    2. We only sell the hardware, this product does not include follow-up software upgrade service (cannot upgrade to 1.10b).
    Does this mean that if I own this unit I will not be able to upgrade the firmware?

    • @TechMindsOfficial
      @TechMindsOfficial  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's interesting.. I do not know the actual answer, but sounds like to upgrade further than 1.10a you would need to get an original firmware key from the Malachite designers themselves, for future upgrades. Normally a one off fee of $50. If that is the case, then I would suggest to purchase the cheaper, unlicensed version from Bangood, then purchase an original firmware license key from the designers, that would ensure future upgrades for free and working.
