I hate this season, I thought it was cruel and disgusting of Tyra to ask that girl to widen her teeth. It's one thing to change the hair, that's not permanent, but quite another to pressure people to make a permanent change like shaving your teeth. I lost a great deal of respect for Tyra this season. Tyra you're supposed to be a queen, not a tyrant.
She got the gap whitened. Not widened. It's the same thing they do at the orthodontist. They shave in between the teeth, to get rid of the dark triangles near the gum line. The actual amount they take off is unnoticeable. 😁
Tbh I lost respect for her when she screamed at that girl for not breaking down and bawling when she got sent home. "You need to grow up." No Tyra, you do. There's nothing wrong with losing at something you want and going; ok, I'll try something else then.
Yeah...Tyra is just being a Tyrant. There is a reason why she acts like the thing that is like her name. She always screws over the girls she sees as competition too. I think the worst part of this whole episode is that the girl who got her hair cut really short who didn’t want it (even though she looked good) got sent home IMMEDIATELY after all makeovers were done, they hadn’t even left the salon yet 🤦🏾♀️ They made her get all her hair cut off just to send her home 💀
I really don't like Tyra for things like this. I think she is mad that she isn't young enough to model anymore (even though she is still beautiful) so she does her best to take out the competition under the guise of "helping" them. She is a TyraNT.

I know Tyra denies knowing who will win ahead of time but Im calling bullshit. (Saleisha and Whitney winning in seasons 9 & 10 told us as much). I mean, Ann had some good photos but she looks the same in most of them. I didnt see any variety in expression from her and she is pretty much only going to appeal to haute couture type markets (which is generally only a small percentage of what new models do). Plus, Ann lacked any discernible confidence, she didnt know much about designers or fashion or makeup (etc), and her walk & her posture were not great (to say the least). She couldn’t deliver a good commercial and I cant get that scene out of my head where Miss Jay could almost touch finger tip to fingertip when putting his hands around her waist. I know she isnt anorexic (I think she has something going on with her thyroid or adrenal glands) but she allegedly weighs less than 100 lbs at 6’2 so her bmi is WAY below what is typically deemed safe. She couldnt even work in some countries because she is too thin. It begs the question of is that a body type that should be glorified in the way ANTM did? I can tell you Id be dead from starvation before I got anywhere near that thin. Most girls would and so while Ann may not be starving herself, her body sends a message to young girls. Nobody is entitled to modeling contract and if your body is completely unattainable in a healthy way to 99.9% of the human race, maybe its not a good idea to make that person a model. P.S. Meanwhile, Chelsea let Tyra permanently alter her smile, she took good pics, she can talk in front of a camera, she has a healthy looking body that is marketable in any country & across a variety of markets, she seems to have a healthy amount of confidence, she lived and breathed all things fashion, & she can walk. Kayla would have been a better winner too because she had such a powerful story.

Agreed. Shaving down teeth weakens them. It strips the enamel which never returns. The results is a cavity prone tooth with a strong tendency to discolor. I had to have a tooth shaved to fit for after teeth straightening/ braces. It was never the same :(

CPT B the same question I always asked myself. Where are they now? One of them from all the seasons is in prison for drug possession or murder I forget which charges. Another one is homeless and is addicted to drugs and was on Dr. Phil. There was no point in that model letting them shave her teeth. Exactly I don't even know any other the "Super Famouse Models" I only know Adrian Curry because shes just a cool person. But most of them are now messed up and stuck with what they did to them. Robin from the first or second season stood her ground and wouldn't go nude even though I hated her I liked she stood up for herself and wouldn't do it. They shaved permenant teeth, and saying "It'll grow back" won't work because it won''t you idiot Tyra.
Some of them do ok. Annaleigh from that season where they went to the netherlands was in a few mainstream movies (Warm Bodies, for instance), Allison (who already had a big internet following) has been a commentator in some niche shows, and I think I saw Jaslene once on Project Runway walking in a designers show during New York fashion week. Oh and I keep seeing CariDee shilling for things. Some of the others have done reasonably well as models too. Nobody is really a superstar though.

Because models are hired to look how the employer/brand/stylist/photographer wants them to look, not whatever style the model personally prefers. Models either choose to trust these supposed "experts" in the field and be adaptable or they can quit and pursue some other type of job where they have more control over things.

Ilka .Waffy Dentists can put bonding onto teeth to fix them. It's not your real teeth, but it looks normal. I have two teeth that are basically ALL bonding (long story -- bad car accident). It's just insane that she'd do that on purpose.
I know this is an old video, but I did wanna say: Terra (the girl that was crying about her hair getting cut off) had a rough makeover behind the scenes. Her sister (Chris) talked about how she got her hair permed and then immediately dyed, so she almost had bald spots! The show didn't show that though
Remember Amanda the blind girl? It looked good at first but she clearly wasn't given purple shampoo and by the end they chopped off her cheap extensions and left her with yellow straw. Tragic.
The makeover part always made me nervous, because some of them were awful...and even if they weren't they made some of the models lose their confidence which destroyed their chances.
Off topic kinda, but I really feel for that girl. Black hair is sooooo hard to grow out if it's processed and not all of us know how to take care of it. From the thinness of it, they permed reguarly. I hope from this makeover, she finds the right routine for her to grow it out correctly.
TheRisingSun It honestly looks like it because I'm even surprised they were able to get a braid in on her sister's hair. I did the math after this video and tbh, even FS doesn't have stylists skilled enough in black hair to turn it around. The tension needed either A) wouldn't hold in her hair at all, B) cause tension alopecia which she already had an obvious incoming alopecia spot an inch to the right of where you'd make a middle part. They may have edited it out or not really informed her WHY they did what they did, but I'm glad they didn't do much to restyle it for the shoot. I just want to massage her scalp with an elixir right now, the poor baby.
Yes, it's quite a shame. Black hair isn't hard to take care it's more a problem of that they lack knowledge in their own hair. I was lucky to have a mother who's very educated and knew how to care and style my hair when I was younger, and I learned from her plus the internet.

According to Chris' tea spill session with Oliver Twixt, if I remember correctly, Terra was crying because the hair dressers permed and then dyed her hair which damaged her hair so badly that she ended up having bald spots. The reason the first pictures look like mugshots is because they use polaroid cameras to see how well they can pose straight on with the harsh lighting of a Polaroid. It allows them to see their true bone structure and features.

It’s awful. I’m 19 and wanted to model for a long time. So a friend and I jokingly sent photos for a audition type thing. And I weight around 130 which is average weight for a female that’s 5’5. And they told me I needed to lose weight and I was like damn. Then o looked closer at magazine covers and all of those girls are tiny.
Mellory Lopes at least don’t join antm. 1)they’re trash and most of the models are never seen again after winning 2)real work models almost *never* get chemicals (except maybe dye) put in their hair, they work with what they have. They might flat iron it or blow dry but I’ve never seen any girls getting perms/relaxers against their wishes

Allow me to explain the tooth thing to those of you who are mad. Cycle 15 was switching to a more high fashion focus with Vogue and IMG. Teeth gaps are very high fashion. Dani in cycle 6 needed hers fixed so she could be more commercial. Also there’s a big time difference between cycle 6 and 15 and things changed in the fashion industry. Finally, Chelsey has stated that her teeth changes were her choice and she wanted to go through with it. Watch the most recent Jay’s chat if you want proof.
I agree. Cycle 6 was filmed in 2005 and Lara Stone, who popularized the gap again became prominent in 2007, and since Tyra was never revolutionary and always copied everything, she changed her mind about it by the time cycle 15 aired. However one of the problems I think people find with this , is that as you mentioned, they asked Chelsey if she wanted to do it, while with Dani, Tyra sort of forced her to do it. But I don't know why people make such a big deal about it. Dani ended up winning despite the runner-up being more consistent throughout the competition

It was just normal colored long hair. 2) obviously he knows how much hair means to girls. He literally does HAIR FOR A LIVING. You think it doesn’t mean a lot to him either ?! Well..to be fair, he might be a hair stylist, but often times in these videos he's letting it shine through that he'd prefer the customers to just shut up and let him do what he wants to that hair, no matter what the customer wants. Sure, hair means a lot to him, but the people attached to that hair..don't seem to mean that much to him.
KaySan666 I think you're forgetting that he's reacting to makeovers on a tv show, not people he's personally met. And unless you've personally had your hair done by him, you can't possibly know what he'd be like. This is him reacting to stuff done by professionals, and the reaction of oftentimes snooty girls. If you've seen his other reaction videos to girls doing diy hair color etc, you'd see that he's a lot kinder and more supportive. I have a feeling he wouldn't be the way you're saying with a paying client. But the fact is, when someone comes in to ask you for your business, and then complains and whines and demands the whole time, it impedes you from doing your job. If you want a professional to do something for you, you need to trust that they know what they're doing, sit back, and unless they're doing something outrageously wild that you didn't agree on, you shut up. (outside of model work, if you just communicate with your hairdresser, explain what you want, what you would absolutely not like them to do, etc, your hairdresser will respect that and do what they can to get you as realistically close to what you desire as possible. but you need to communicate politely, and if you do, your hairdresser will return the favor.) Sometimes people have an idea of what they want but the reality is that it would look horrible on them, and good hairdressers often save them from humiliation by refusing to do something, and suggesting another better option. And as for these particular girls, they want to be models. They don't usually get to choose what happens to their hair anyway, and might as well get used to it now and stop whining! They should KNOW they're going to have MANY hairstyles throughout their career that they'll hate, and that it comes with the job. What will make them awesome models who stand out, is being confident and making those hairstyles they don't like work for them anyway and selling it well.
Totally agree Cheveyo. The hair is an accessory. Most of the time in modeling, it's all about selling the product which is either the clothes or make up or something else, so the hair is often used to accentuate the face.

Agreed. Shaving down teeth weakens them. It strips the enamel which never returns. The results is a cavity prone tooth with a strong tendency to discolor. I had to have a tooth shaved to fit for after teeth straightening/ braces. It was never the same :(

The show took it way too far when they started messing with the contestants' teeth - permanent changes that didn't put them any closer to winning that BS competition?! I would have refused and been happy to be booted off that show - after so many seasons and so many winners, where are any of them now?
CPT B the same question I always asked myself. Where are they now? One of them from all the seasons is in prison for drug possession or murder I forget which charges. Another one is homeless and is addicted to drugs and was on Dr. Phil. There was no point in that model letting them shave her teeth. Exactly I don't even know any other the "Super Famouse Models" I only know Adrian Curry because shes just a cool person. But most of them are now messed up and stuck with what they did to them. Robin from the first or second season stood her ground and wouldn't go nude even though I hated her I liked she stood up for herself and wouldn't do it. They shaved permenant teeth, and saying "It'll grow back" won't work because it won''t you idiot Tyra.
Some of them do ok. Annaleigh from that season where they went to the netherlands was in a few mainstream movies (Warm Bodies, for instance), Allison (who already had a big internet following) has been a commentator in some niche shows, and I think I saw Jaslene once on Project Runway walking in a designers show during New York fashion week. Oh and I keep seeing CariDee shilling for things. Some of the others have done reasonably well as models too. Nobody is really a superstar though.

Because models are hired to look how the employer/brand/stylist/photographer wants them to look, not whatever style the model personally prefers. Models either choose to trust these supposed "experts" in the field and be adaptable or they can quit and pursue some other type of job where they have more control over things.

TheRisingSun It honestly looks like it because I'm even surprised they were able to get a braid in on her sister's hair. I did the math after this video and tbh, even FS doesn't have stylists skilled enough in black hair to turn it around. The tension needed either A) wouldn't hold in her hair at all, B) cause tension alopecia which she already had an obvious incoming alopecia spot an inch to the right of where you'd make a middle part. They may have edited it out or not really informed her WHY they did what they did, but I'm glad they didn't do much to restyle it for the shoot. I just want to massage her scalp with an elixir right now, the poor baby.
Yes, it's quite a shame. Black hair isn't hard to take care it's more a problem of that they lack knowledge in their own hair. I was lucky to have a mother who's very educated and knew how to care and style my hair when I was younger, and I learned from her plus the internet.

The reason the first pictures look like mugshots is because they use polaroid cameras to see how well they can pose straight on with the harsh lighting of a Polaroid. It allows them to see their true bone structure and features.

I feel like with the red head they filmed the filler color as the main event when it actually wasn’t. DRAMA. They recolored it and it gave it that pretty mahogany depth. Because if they didn’t fill it first with the Ronald McDonald red then there was no way her hair would hold that last color we saw. Her hair cuticle was blown from the blonde. It’s awful. I’m 19 and wanted to model for a long time. So a friend and I jokingly sent photos for a audition type thing. And I weight around 130 which is average weight for a female that’s 5’5. And they told me I needed to lose weight and I was like damn. Then o looked closer at magazine covers and all of those girls are tiny.

That shit makes me so mad. Almost every black girl or girl with textured hair ends up with major heat or chemical damage. I think now that the craze of the early 2000s is over for straight hair, your curls would be sought after and more accepted.

Allow me to explain the tooth thing to those of you who are mad. Cycle 15 was switching to a more high fashion focus with Vogue and IMG. Teeth gaps are very high fashion. Dani in cycle 6 needed hers fixed so she could be more commercial. Also there’s a big time difference between cycle 6 and 15 and things changed in the fashion industry. Finally, Chelsey has stated that her teeth changes were her choice and she wanted to go through with it. Watch the most recent Jay’s chat if you want proof.

I agree. Cycle 6 was filmed in 2005 and Lara Stone, who popularized the gap again became prominent in 2007, and since Tyra was never revolutionary and always copied everything, she changed her mind about it by the time cycle 15 aired.
However one of the problems I think people find with this , is that as you mentioned, they asked Chelsey if she wanted to do it, while with Dani, Tyra sort of forced her to do it.
But I don't know why people make such a big deal about it. Dani ended up winning despite the runner-up being more consistent throughout the competition

I’m just thankful TH-cam has enough sense to put a thumbs down on the comments. 1) he isn’t racist. Their hair was boring. It was just normal colored long hair. 2) obviously he knows how much hair means to girls. He literally does HAIR FOR A LIVING. You think it doesn’t mean a lot to him either ?! But he’s laughing about how they KNOWINGLY signed up for America’s next top model and knew there was going to be a make over and knew there was a 50% chance of loving or hating their look. So instead of just going with the flow and making the best of it, they cry like they had no idea it was coming.
Well..to be fair, he might be a hair stylist, but often times in these videos he's letting it shine through that he'd prefer the customers to just shut up and let him do what he wants to that hair, no matter what the customer wants. Sure, hair means a lot to him, but the people attached to that hair..don't seem to mean that much to him.
KaySan666 I think you're forgetting that he's reacting to makeovers on a tv show, not people he's personally met. And unless you've personally had your hair done by him, you can't possibly know what he'd be like. This is him reacting to stuff done by professionals, and the reaction of oftentimes snooty girls. If you've seen his other reaction videos to girls doing diy hair color etc, you'd see that he's a lot kinder and more supportive. I have a feeling he wouldn't be the way you're saying with a paying client. But the fact is, when someone comes in to ask you for your business, and then complains and whines and demands the whole time, it impedes you from doing your job. If you want a professional to do something for you, you need to trust that they know what they're doing, sit back, and unless they're doing something outrageously wild that you didn't agree on, you shut up. (outside of model work, if you just communicate with your hairdresser, explain what you want, what you would absolutely not like them to do, etc, your hairdresser will respect that and do what they can to get you as realistically close to what you desire as possible. but you need to communicate politely, and if you do, your hairdresser will return the favor.) Sometimes people have an idea of what they want but the reality is that it would look horrible on them, and good hairdressers often save them from humiliation by refusing to do something, and suggesting another better option.
And as for these particular girls, they want to be models. They don't usually get to choose what happens to their hair anyway, and might as well get used to it now and stop whining! They should KNOW they're going to have MANY hairstyles throughout their career that they'll hate, and that it comes with the job. What will make them awesome models who stand out, is being confident and making those hairstyles they don't like work for them anyway and selling it well.
Totally agree Cheveyo. The hair is an accessory. Most of the time in modeling, it's all about selling the product which is either the clothes or make up or something else, so the hair is often used to accentuate the face.
