I was asked by a club President who came to my town(and was a friend), if I could show him around, and go with him to an event he was attending. He introduced me as a hangaround to the other clubs, then at the end of the night, invited me to a club social event the next weekend in his town to formalize it. So, I would say that like picking your road names, you don't get to declare yourself a hangaround - the leadership appoints you.

Like you said, everyone does it a little differently, your a supporter first, that means you have absolutely nothing to do with the club, your not a member, prospect, and you will not get any back up, if you get hemmed up while wearing support gear, and you will get mud checked, by patch holders, prospects and supporters of rival MCs. I wear my support gear everyday, everywhere I go. Not just to club events. I see it as my patch, and your not taking it, without a war, and you may win, but won't get away unscathed, you show class at the runs, in how you act, talk and introduce yourself to patch holders. Eventually you will catch the eye of a particular person, and chapter. And you'll start going to runs with them, and if you pass, they will ask you to be an official hang around, if excepted, your voted on as a hang around at church. As a newbie the best advice I can give, was given to me by my sponsor, slow your roll, and take your time, find people that you trust hole heartedly, and they trust you as well. Get in too fast, with people you only think you know, thats how you end up doing a stretch, good show!!

After hanging out a bit, riding with them, talking to these guys every day building relationships. One day they congratulated me .. I got made an official hang around. I didn’t even know such a thing existed. I told them if ok.. I’d like to really dig in, take on some prospect work. Want to build good habits and such. Learn as much as I can. When/IF I get asked about prospecting .. I don’t want to rush ANYTHING. The saying is club forever forever club. Not for a few months or a few years. I want to make sure I can get the stuff outside of the club dialed in first so I can be 110% present and avail for service of the guys that hopefully will be my brothers one day. I talked to one of the patches about this and seemed like it would be ok. I just hope they would not take it as a wishy washy thing .. at this time I don’t have doubts about them or what they are about. None at all. I just wouldn’t want to accept the opportunity to prospect until I had work schedule and shit with my old lady “adjusted” so I could be the best brother I can be and not have a pissed off wife. I did get the blessing from her. She met the guys. Really liked them. Club is very family oriented. But it’s a traditional MC. There are obligations. This weekend I was out of state on Fri and had an event on Saturday nite. I sensed some saltiness when I called to let her know I’m heading back. Any tips on staying good with the old lady beside communication and stuff? U know how women are .. yea baby .. u need time to be with some guy friends. Go ride. Have fun (not sarcastic at all). But then I sense a tad bit of salt 🧂
The term "friend of the club" means you're "on the program", and have a "flash" stating the charters city or area you are hanging around for. This is for the club I'm "hanging out" with. Other clubs are different. Hanging out and being a voted in hangaround, which is called being "on the program" are 2 different things in this specific club. Each club is different in there process, bylaws and politics. But brotherhood is brotherhood. Respect, honor, loyalty, and Integrity are key.
Some advice. My wife and I ride our own. We've done many group rides that have included some small local clubs definitely not dominant 1%'ers. With that my wife seen, liked and now has a bottom rocker property of patch. She really takes pride in this patch. We have no other back patches she just has that one. Is this breaking protocol? Well honestly rockers and property patches came from the MC culture. Some may see it as disrespectful. It’s like saying if you support the military to go wear fatigues or if you support LE have a badge in your wallet. If you’re not around the MC events and only civilian/independent risers then they prob won’t care. But when you start going to MC events then you may have some issues.
How do you know if you became an official hang around? Do they let you know after they have taken the vote or what exactly changes from being an unofficial hang around? Thank you! L&R

I'm sure this is informative for some but my advise would be as a part of the 1 percent that do whatever we want. If you are watching these clips to join a club, then you shouldn't even think about it. It's a lifestyle not a thing to do. I love my life and I gave up 20 yrs of family, relationships, time for who I am and where I am. But it's my life I choose. It's not worth it if you don't wake up and want to see your brothers, or can't wait till the next run. Cheers and watch out for the ass clowns txting

Before i was a hang around i had to introduce my self as "guest of ____Club" when i went to events. i treated being a hang around as being a prospect and went from hang around to prospect fairly quickly and i am assuming it was because of that. i was also told that when you are ready to prospect for a club you have to let the members know that you are ready to prospect for them so that they know that you are ready to take that next step before they bring it to the table.
