Jeffrey Rein tells us a little about F2D Combat International finals and then describes what happens when CL Combat models collide mid-air. Will Hinton, a Nats Official, tells us about the final day of CL Scale, and Contest Director Mike Condon describes the process of becoming a CD for an event like Pylon Racing.

Jeff, it's me, Sweeps. Haven't seen you since Todd's. Great video.
I built and flew a few when I lived in Midland, Texas. It was so much fun, Build and repair all week, fly and crash on the week end. I think I recall Mr. Stubblefield flying at at least one of the contests we hosted. I also attempted stunt and rat racing, I still have the scar of 11 stitches on the back of my wrist from a rat racer getting away from me while tuning it on the ground.
Great video. I used to fly control-line airplanes way back in the 70ies and 80ies and participated in some combat contests. It surprises me how much faster these planes go nowadays. Amazing! We used self conbusting two stroke engines (Super Tiger and Oliver Tigre).
I also remember that we stopped building balsa-wood wings and replaced the balsa wood wings by styrofoam wings. Guess it's all carbon fibre material nowadays. The evolution does not stop of course.
I also loved the team-race contests. They were fantastic as well.

My Dad had four combat ships (which are now mine as he has passed). Two VooDoos, a Spectrum (which I got to see him build, the other three were built well before I was born) and one with a wingspan about half of the others. These were the first flying models I had ever seen when he moved into the house when he married my Mom when I was five. He had told me they were 100+ MPH planes and he had said there were a bunch of people in the middle. This is the first time I have actually seen combat planes in action and it is crazy with just two people and the planes are certainly cruising!
I am coming for free flight but it would be fun to see other events. Just cannot imagine how many airplanes someone would go through flying CL combats for many years. Enjoying the videos.
I'm from Jacksonville FL. We had a 5 star contest The King Orange international. Every event of combat ,racing , stunt , free flight , carrier landings.
The city if Jacksonville closed the hobby park and that was the end of an errer .
My planes are still packed in the loft where I flew at a big money match in Indiana . People like Richard Stubelfield , George Cleavland , Paul Curtis . Some of the funniest times in my life . It's been years since I've even seen anyone fly control line .
I was Nationally rated at 13 in the top 20 with MACA .
WHATS HAPPENED ???
I have Nelson's , Team Hill OS max rat racing engines . every forever made and hopped up 049s .I flew in 5 divisions to quality for event overall winner.
Ill sell everything for a grand . Just the Nelson's were $400 a piece and the Foxes date back to the 60s.around 30+ engines.and 60 or so planes . I'm in Florida .
